Exactly. However I bought recently a few used camera's. 2 x Pentax K10D. One had 3.000 clicks the other 9.000 clicks. So like brand new. A Panasonic bridge with less than 800 clicks and a Pentax K70 with less than 4K clicks. I sold the Panasonic for double the price and will soon sell the K10D's. With those low shutter counts I will get more money from them. Use it as an argument when you sell.

Yea sometimes you can get a pretty good deal on a beat up camera and other times people will ask a bit too much for a beat up camera. Sometimes it's worth the risk, and hopefully it works out for you!

I’ve purchased so many cameras. I hardly even check anymore. As long as the thing looks good to you and it doesn’t look like it’s been abused and it works of course, why not?

That doesn’t mean that it would die. They normally test their cameras and take an average and that’s the life they come up with I guess. It’s not scientific and it doesn’t mean the camera is going to quit. Earlier this year I bought a camera which was rated to 150k and it had 295k on the shutter. I wouldn’t be worried about it just focus on creating and take care of the gear.

I'm not necessarily familiar with that camera or shooting film in general but engineering wise, a film camera is less complex and more simple to repair, so I think you could get it repaired by most camera shops, to me it sounds like the shutter is getting stuck. I would probably not buy it if you have concerns unless it's at such a good deal that a repair negates your concerns. The shutter is really important in a film camera as it is what controls the light and amount of time that light is able to hit the film which in return actually exposes it. So yeah, the shutter is very important in a film camera. Thanks for watching!

An a5000 is quite an old camera but if you are set on getting it and it's low shutter I don't see an issue. Although I don't use shutter count values as a factor when I purchase, you can surely ask for a file from the camera and upload it to a website to see what the count actually is. tools.science.si

Hello! Shutter Count does not effect image quality in any manner. The sensor being dirty could though, just make sure you keep it clean and free of dust!

200d is a new model, I'd worry less about the shutter count of this camera model along with the 800d

If you’re looking for a Nikon or Canon it just really depends on what you want to get into and if those features will work for you. If you’re doing photography I’d highly recommend Nikon and getting an older pro ish body that supports AFD lenses so you can use all their cheap but sharp legacy glass!

If you want to jump into the modern game get the a6000 with kit lens at a very very low price and it’ll probably out perform those older Nikon’s and Canons but the glass is more expensive.

How's it going! I mean unless you have issues with it or see dust on the sensor there's really not much servicing to be done unless you want it to be cleaned every once in awhile.

I'm not sure since that would be more of a video camera, though it probably allows you to take some stills. I wouldn't worry much about it especially with a video camera. Someone could have a camera that they never took one photo with and sell it as new even if they only shot video which won't increase the shutter count.

Camcorders go by hours used I think instead of shutter count.

I can’t speak on that camera specifically, never shot on a Pentax but if it’s something you can use and will help you progress then by all means, there really is no perfect camera just perfect the tool you have. 10,500 is not a lot, honestly I could put 3,000 on my shutter in one wedding day, you’re fine. Hmm that sounds odd, unless you're using a burst mode or a bracket setting. A bracket setting could take 3, 4, 5, or more pictures at a time or in order with varying exposures. I'm not sure which camera you are using and if the shutter count is accurately displayed on the camera or is visible through other software.

@@WhiteMic Im using a Nikon d3400 camera. Everytime I took a photo the SC per image is 4 counts. I upload the image I took in Shuttercount.com to check how many SC that were consumed.

Gotcha. Yeah it would seem to be either you have it set to some sort of bracket mode or are in a burst mode which takes several shots in succession. I would try to reset the camera first in settings and see if the issue persists.

I don’t think too many people would want to have the shutter serviced, but I’d agree having the shutter replaced on most cameras would be cheaper than buying the camera again. Unless it’s really old and is just a cheap camera. I guess you could always get some sort of gear insurance.

Hello! I don’t think the act of switching to live view will drive up your count but when you take a picture and the mirror flips and the shutter actuates it should count as a shutter actuation. Now if you’re shooting video, no it wouldn’t count.

live view adds to shutter count. As a matter of fact, many unknown things add to it other than just the actuation and live view.., like Mup, exposure delay etc

Honestly no. This is simply a "life" rating provided by the manufacturer. I would assume that they test a lot of units and average it out. These tests aren't really real world usage though, they probably fire the cameras off constantly until they fail, which would cause excessive heat and premature failure. I have personally never had a shutter fail on any camera, but I've heard some stories.

If you want the camera and it looks good and works good why not?

The shutter doesn't come down in a mirrorless camera unless you're taking a picture with the mechanical shutter. Proper cinema cameras measure video time in hours. Essentially you'd know how many hours of usage a sensor has vs a shutter count. If they could fix all the downsides to an electronic shutter, we may have shutterless cameras in the future.

The max count on those cameras is 250k i read. I bought a 5d mk3 for 800€ with 118k and have been using it for the past year and a half. Still works perfect. The count is more so you lnow how old it is not how good or bad the photos will be, i say go for it 124k still isnt THAT much

Looks like Robi got you covered. In regards to the camera itself, if that's something you want to buy and can get it at a great price go for it but for $800 you may be able to find something a bit better in the current market.

Just means the camera has take 41 pictures or the shutter has been actuated 41 times. It’s basically new honestly.

If it’s a good deal and the camera is great for your needs then sure. One thing on the 7D is you need to make sure the pins aren’t bent in the card slot, it was an issue in the past. So bring a card to test.

That’s exactly what it’s used for. For getting a better deal lol. I just think in the mirrorless world those issues are way less likely than in the mirrored cameras. You can consider so many other electronics with moving parts and none of them are criticized or used as leverage as much as a shutter count. I think it’s up to the person. It’s whatever you’re comfortable with. That’s the highest I’ve personally seen an A7ii.

At the end of the day it's all subjective, if you're comfortable buying that and using it then by all means but if it makes you nervous then don't buy it. While an expected life span of a shutter is sometimes given, it doesn't mean it's gonna just give out, some cars are still on the road with a million miles or close to it. I think it's okay to check it when buying but to use it as a factor into why you don't want a camera because someone thinks 10k on the shutter is "a lot" is just ridiculous. More importantly I'd work out a really good deal to make sure if the shutter needs replacing it was built into the buying price and that the camera is a model from your origin country so that you can get it replaced. A cheap camera with 600k shutter but with a US warranty card that can be repaired is better to me than that same camera with 100k and grey market and the manufacturer won't touch it. Sorry for the long response but from experience selling cameras, I've had too many people say, oh your camera has 10k on the shutter, that's too much, when in reality that's like 3 weddings lol. If you want a camera with a shutter of 0, buy it new! Thanks for watching!

That's a bit different because those things are meant to wear down over time, especially batteries. Also being a mechanic, I know too well that cars are the same way, you never really know when that brand new part will fail, especially if it's a third party part. I'd compare the camera shutter count to a good Transmission, if you take care of it, it'll last forever. Comparing it to something like brake calipers wouldn't be logical, since those are also meant to wear out over time. I can’t really speak to conditions of specific cameras. I just know that I don’t personally check, if the camera is in good condition and not abused there’s no reason to not believe the components have been well taken care of. I recently passed on an A7iii for a low price because it had tons of dust in and around it, sure it was low shutter count but that dust is a camera killer. Ask me how I know.

The shutter count is just something of a measurement from the manufacturer for the life expectancy, however it can always be more or less. With as many cameras that I have had I've never had the shutter fail on me.
