Does sim racing really improve driving skills?

In this video, I analyzed in great detail a question that often arose on the Internet. Do car simulators improve your driving skills? And I found the answer to this question. I also asked the opinion of my friends about it and comparing our opinions we came to a clear conclusion. Simracing really helps. First, there are many different types of sim racing. For example, off-road driving simulators, where we can practice the skills of not only normal car driving, but also how to act in extraordinary conditions. There are also truck driving simulators, where you can have a good time, and at the same time learn to drive large-sized cars with or without trailers, as well as learn the techniques of transporting large loads. If it's too boring, you can drive on sand dunes and thus study how different types of surfaces affect the car's handling. You can simply drive at high speed on asphalt roads, thereby learning how the car behaves during maneuvers at high speeds. And you can just drive calmly, studying the rules of the road, or training to react to emergency situations on the roads. There are different simulators for all these needs, different equipment for different simulators, and so on. So the first important part is the equipment with which you play any simulator. In our case, these are the basic steering wheel and pedals. You can also buy gearboxes, VR equipment, special cockpits with tactile feedback. There is no limit to this. Speaking of the standard game experience. A keyboard with a mouse is unlikely to bring much benefit. You can learn basic knowledge of driving a car, traffic rules and the like, but this is more theoretical knowledge, and you will get more practical knowledge only with more advanced equipment. Then, having the right equipment, you will be able to properly learn how to drive a car. And this is where simulators really come in handy. Because in them you can repeat standard movements a bunch of times, learn to drive without fear that you can hurt yourself or damage your property. Because an accident in the game can be fixed by pressing one key, but in real life you can't do that. Therefore, car simulators are often used in driving schools to teach people traffic rules, how to behave on the road and how to drive a car in unexpected situations. But it is also very important to always see the difference between the game and reality and in reality to drive the car carefully and safely for yourself and others.

Great video! Me personally, the answer is yes. I'm 14, and I started sim-racing when I was 10. Eventually, at the age of 12, I started karting. With the previous knowledge I had from sim-racing, it was much easier in real life to adapt and learn. From then on, I've done karting ever since. I drive 2 stroke rotax karts at certain locations in Maryland and Virginia, and I still do sim-racing to help with my skills. At the end of the day, it depends on the person. Usually you want to start sim-racing, then get into real life racing. That way instead of taking away the g-forces from real life, you end up getting extra feedback if you started on a sim.

Your videos always cover intriguing topics very in depth. KZfaq has been pushing you on my fyp and for a good reason: your videos are great! I do feel like something is missing though. Your voice is quite quiet and slow (no hate of course) and I feel like if you could improve on these areas your videos would be more popular. Practice makes perfect, keep going brother and your videos can only become better.

I completely agree that simulators make you drive better irl, as I started sim racing when I was 13 (I’m nearly 14 now) and in the last 10-ish months, I have seen big improvements in my driving skill. I also recently got the opportunity to drive on the sand dunes near to where I live, and it definitely felt very similar to driving in beamng or other simulators using my wheel. There is definitely differences between sim and irl, and it can also be quite expensive to get into sim racing, with all the equipment needed/suggested. Amazing video, well done! It’s always great to see people making more videos showing how sims are not just games, and how beamng isn’t just a lol funny haha car go crash game.

Yes, I completely agree with you. Sim driving is a very, very effective method of learning how to drive and feel a car. Glad you liked the video 🙂 Yes, BeamNG is a masterpiece and unfortunately many people do not notice it because of the huge amount of content where cars are simply smashed in this simulator... BeamNG gave me the opportunity to perform a lot of experiments with cars that I have already done and of course will continue to do )

yes and no, yes Sim-Racing can teach you the theories but it cant do one that that real racing teaches you. fear. to overcome that fear, to overcome the G-Forces and knowing that if you crash it could potentially kill you.
@vertviger
@vertviger 10 күн бұрын
100 percent agreed. As I said some skills could be learned only while real driving , so sim racing can't teach us everything. And of course we need to clearle remember difference between game and real life.

@@vertviger even if we get to the point where sim racing could simulate G-Forces the Fear part is still something you need to overcome. i have notice though by playing sim racing that my driving has become better, and i was doing this back in the 90s before i got my license
@vertviger
@vertviger 9 күн бұрын
@@cool3865 I see and agree , friend. I don't have driving license yet, but I drive a lot in rl. I drove my grandpa's car and my dad's car and I have to say , that this fear helps at some point, bc you will drive car more carefully because of that. And when you will get more real skill this fear will disappear I think. So , yeah , you are right 👍
