I've decided that cribbage has three stages: strategy, skill, and luck. That's what makes it so rewarding. Since I realized earlier this year how important pegging is, as I watch my game summaries, I'd easily say less than 10% of my wins I was out-pegged ... I need to win pegging to win the game.

I think skill is so clearly seen if you take a top ranked player and put them up against someone who just learned the basic rules and hasn't played yet. Winning over 60% of the time is easily possible there. The other thing to remember is that learning some skills are simply easier than others. Getting over 50% against medium skilled players is easy enough, but squeezing out those last few percent is difficult. Lastly, this is a good argument to play a "best of" series of games to better see who has the higher skill!

Yup. Cribbage is like the card game war but you can see your cards before playing them..

I'm a firm believer that it's mostly luck and some skill. But, why is it every old person who spent their entire life playing the game gets extremely hostile when someone points out that it's 2/3 luck and 1/3 skill?
