Does the Antipsychotic Medication Seroquel Cause Loss of Speech?

Does Seroquel, the antipsychotic medication, cause loss of speech? Maybe. It should only be used if nothing else works. So my first question is, why is this person on Seroquel? Antipsychotics are for if someone is delusional or paranoid or aggressive or has these repetitive thoughts that are really scary like their husband is cheating on them, that their food is poisoned.
If you're miserable during the day, or you're really angry due to delusions and those sorts of things, then it can be helpful.
But the Seroquel, the Zyprexa or Olanzapine, the Risperdal, the Geodon, the Abilify all have a 2% increase in stroke risk and a 1% increase in sudden death risk.
They also make your heartbeat pattern longer, and so if used with some other medications that also do that it can be dangerous. So, if a loss of speech, that makes me worry that this person might have had a little stroke. And the thing is, a stroke could be someone all of a sudden just can't sign their name, or they all of a sudden don't remember who their caregiver of five years is, or that they can't speak or they can't swallow. So that's a small stroke.
And you do need to get a CAT scan. You do need to think about increasing the blood thinner, but you definitely want to get that checked into.

If this is the first time you watch my videos, I am Dr Liz and I am a board-certified geriatric specialist. Over the years I have worked with thousands of families from all over the country to help elders through the aging process. Families are typically in crisis and don’t know where to turn when loved ones have dementia, Alzheimer’s, medication problems, or any complications from aging. I feel we must take away medications that “zombify” our elders and adjust meds to get our loved ones back to the happy, productive people they once were. Do you have questions or concerns? Don’t panic. Dr Liz Geriatrics is your resource for everything and anything you need to know about aging. I am so glad you stopped by and remember we are here to help.

Serequil caused my older son to act physicially like he was awake but he was totally asleep mentally. One night he opened the refridgerator door and peed into the refridgerstor. He should be in an instutation for thr mentally ill. Last i heard he was homeless in a large city back east. I have tried to locate him and get nothing. That drug is very dangerous.

thank you for this video! I'm learning about the dangers after a year of being on it, I've been fortunate with Seroquel, It's the only medication that's worked for me, but, i'm also in a much safer environment than when I was first getting help for mental health.

I started lactating and lost my period and was incredibly itchy. It turned out that the tiny dose I took for sleep gave me a pituitary gland tumour that gave me menopause at 30, the endocrinologist said I had the hormones of an 80 year old. I had to take Dostinex to shrink the tumour and spent every weekend in bed throwing up from it. The first time I took seroquel I fainted in the shower, I was 22 and I phoned the doctor saying I don’t want to take this stuff. She told me I had to so I did what she said. She also put me on Effexor 150 and that eventually gave me seizures. Then Lexapro and that gave me seizures too. I now take a tiny dose of CBD and feel great and I sleep

I was prescribed these at a walk In clinic and they were terrible for me. I need the opposite med like adderall or those more stimulating things I personally think. I drink sometimes over 15 cups of coffee a day and a Red Bull or two if I have them. Then, then I’m ready to feel normal. I told the docs this but because stimulants were used as abusive things they treat me like I’m a druggie looking to score dope. It totally sucks I’m completely useless to follow through with anything even completing getting help us so hard for me and I’m at the point of giving up when I have gifts and talents that should have me being so successful. It sucks I am paralyzed mentally right now and I need a fairy god mother to show up and help me get accurate help. Send me an angel

Dude I’m in the same boat as you and I’m only 19! It sucks when you can’t get the proper help with out being looked at a certain way, like wanting the medications for the wrong reasons. It sucks when you practically have to beg for help, especially when you’re desperate for anything. We can only hope for the best and expect the worst.

@@Xbxbdnbx67 absolutely frustrating. I ended up stopping taking the seroqu Before the script jumped from 100 to 300 mgs cus i was afraid I’d hurt someone. Like I’m not a scary person but I am really good at say defense preparation.. my wife was in hospital for a week during the outbreak of Israel war and when grabbing her some stuff from home, I found myself in a trance like focus on prepping weapons and such into the car just in case the world went mad and I had to save her from the hospital room…. Dude like I had swords and guns and shields and whips and duct tape and rope and oh my gosh right?! If I would’ve gotten pulled over the cops would have thought I was headed to do no good. That was on 100 mg day 10. So I knew right then that this is exactly why kids shoot up schools, it’s not the natural crazy in me that did that it was the synthetic focus on the action that made me high on the activity of prepping and if i had been under bully or some suffering trauma then totally would have had evil minded focus added to my own defense prep. I think that is a really important consideration. I now just am smoking weed all day and drinking coffee and am peaceful and not trying to do anything crazy. I mean innocent crazy shit still but that usually just involves laughing at my dog wearing tiny hats or nerding out on something for an hour at a time lol I would really love to try adderall or a pro stimulant though I just know it would balance me and cut down on the coffee prob lol I hope you find your center friend it’s hard I know to find ourselves in a box full of idiots who also don’t know themselves. One tip if I might give to a younger me is to not feel like I had to do anything at all. Today I can look back at all the stress to be something I wasn’t for people who don’t stay in our lives, don’t do it. Just care less about impressing people and become more selfish with yourself and your smarts. In the end no one ever cares about us in the ways we wanted them to. Sure you can find love and those things but really the best relationships I’ve maintained are the ones that I let surprise me by not controlling them. So when good happens I’m ready for it but not over eager in my expectations. The best part of the ssri is that it makes you dead to the world lol well just try to simulate that by focusing on being selfish and finding what you love about you without any additives being bought or given, like what do you love about you when you naked in the woods metaphorically or actually lol Much Love friend, find your cloud!

@@almostrich4013 not the average but some days yep. Today I just finally after 10 years of almost trying hard.. got to try a adderall script so we will see if I can cut back on all that drink. But now my mouth is so dry I’m thinking I’ll be drinking all that in water now.
