After being away from the church for some years, I confessed some pretty horrendous things. Things Most would never forgive if they were done to me or you. My penance was to prepare a path to bring others to the faith in the way I was inspired to come back. It’s years later and I’ve brought my family and some friends to Catholicism…. I will be continuing this penance for the rest of my life as a mission

You do know that wearing short shorts & leggings ( immodesty), missing 1 mass without good excuse, birth control in marriage, or not giving up something EVERY Fri. are MORTAL sins, according to a Catholic list. WHO decides & does it change? This is so man-made with plenty of excuses. TRUST JESUS. AND HIS DEATH, RESURRECTION, HIS WORD SPECIFICALLY (not reading SO MUCH into it). You laugh so much, about this "grave" matter. Assures me this is not believable.

This is one thing I can’t get behind the whole Infants in Limbo or Unbaptized Children in Hell, who hasn’t reached age of reason. Since GOD is Not bound by his own Sacraments. Jesus is a Very Merciful God and I am 100% believe those souls are absolutely in Heaven.
@mn22286
@mn22286 4 жыл бұрын
Thank goodness for Ryan S for actually defending the traditional belief on Limbo of the Infants. It's borderline Pharisaical to say that the Church has never formally defined the doctrine, therefore I don't have to believe it. No saint, doctor, pope, or council even questioned the idea of Limbo of the Infants until modern times. St. Augustine even believed that unbaptized infants who die suffer both pain of loss and pain of sense! Ryan S is 100% correct to say that if you throw out limbo of the infants, the Church's teaching on salvation crumbles. That's why limbo of the infants was formulated in the first place. Denial of limbo leads to denial of original sin, denial of the effectiveness and necessity of Baptism, denial of the Immaculate Conception, or outright universalism. It's telling that the priest and the other Ryan wouldn't (or couldn't) directly address any of Ryan S's arguments. Of course God is not legally bound by the sacraments and he can choose to save anyone he wants 'outside the system', but there is no reason to positively say, like the priest and the other Ryan in this video, that God's mercy is infinite therefore all unbaptized babies who die go to Heaven. At best, we can hope and pray that they do, but even then, there's an argument to be made that in God's omniscience, Limbo of the Infants is a mercy for the children who end up there.
@youngbloodk
@youngbloodk 4 жыл бұрын
Unbaptized babies are absolutely not damned to Hell, and the Church has never taught that they are. That is the whole idea behind Limbo. Since baptism is a normative prerequisite to enter Heaven, then we cannot presume that unbaptized children will be there. However, since they have not committed personal sin, they will not be condemned to the hell of the damned. Since they are not damned, Limbo would not be a place of suffering and punishment. It would be a paradise, but without the beatific vision. That said, God is not limited by His sacraments, so there may very well be unbaptized children in Heaven, just as we allow that non-Christians MAY make it to Heaven in a way known only to GOD. Just as people who die before baptism may be graced by the baptism desire, there could theoretically be a baptism of the parent's desire. My wife has lost five babies to miscarriage. We would definitely have had them baptized like our other children, and we hope to see them in Heaven, but we do not presume we will.

Here's the one thing about Limbo that is often overlooked: it is not a bad place! It is a place of peace and happiness. There is no sin or strife there, no fear, no violence, no pain. It is a lot like the Garden of Eden before Adsm and Eve sinned. It is a lot like Heaven, actually, the only difference is that the babies in Limbo never get to see God face to face---that requires grace and unbaptized babies lack grace. And it is a defined doctrine of the Church. Several popes have said so. St. Augustine reports that St. Paul taught the doctrine.

@curious george Limbo was never a formal doctrine of the church. It was more of a theological theory to try to explain what we didn't understand. It was never myth but it has been abandoned because it does not suffice to provide the answers. Of course it was man made. No problem with that.
@bridgefin
@bridgefin 4 жыл бұрын
@curious george Sure theory is man's effort to make sense out of what we know and to try to bridge the implications of what we know to try to understand what is not revealed. I trust you don't have any problem with that concept. When science tries to bridge from what we know to what we don't know they also develop theories, and like limbo, they are tested. When a theory works it is advanced. We don't consider scientific theories to be fairy tales and I don't think that term applies to religious issues either. Maybe you need to make a more direct statement of your concern or issue so it can be addressed.
@bridgefin
@bridgefin 4 жыл бұрын
@curious george You: scientific theories are advanced through testing, evidence and proof. Me: Before you equated theories with fairytales. I guess now theories are OK. Look, when discussing religious doctrine the same principle applies. There are certain things which seem to be firm principles and then implications from them. You deal with those implications by developing theories to try to explain them. Then you let people interact with your theory over time and see if it holds water. My guess is that your issue is with religion in general and not with Limbo or religious theories. If that is the case we can have a more productive discussion if we go directly to where your issue is. I think I have answered the issue you brought up.

I know that time is eternal and time is not like here on earth. I am so concerned that “dear God please don’t let me die with any sin “ so that I may NOT have to be in Purgatory. I try to go to Confession every 2 months to keep from sin and know that I am not a saint and that also concerns me. I had to stop watching the program and did NOT get to the indulgences. This is the problem with the church today. Priests are more concerned with making people feel good than they are about teaching the truth. They think they’re taking the better path, but in reality it’s doing a tremendous disservice to their flocks. I always thought that when we sin as adults we like little kids don’t know the impact it’s perpetuating from our physical surroundings to our spiritual surroundings . Kinda like a 2-4 year old yelling in mass about how he or she wants a snack or a toy to play with and no matter how many times you tell them it’s naughty they don’t truly understand how much he or she is disrupting others around him or her how much it takes to fix that distraction or issue and how much it makes others maybe fall into sin themselves because of the anger it induces in some instances . So the older we get the more conscience of our actions impacts we have , but we get to a point as adults no matter what age that we are like silly 2-4 year old kids in Gods eyes because we only have up to a certain brain capacity like little children of 2-4 years compared to Gods intelligence and understanding so we don’t fully grasp our actions and how they hurt our spiritual and physical surroundings as well as we adults would like to believe. I think God takes that into consideration . Also my wife and I hadn’t gone to communion because technically we cannot go to confession first since we we haven’t been married in the church but only by court for like 12 years unfortunately. We have all of our other sacraments as far as baptism ,first holy communion, and confirmation. We felt something within us to change our wrong doings . We desired heavily to go to confession last year . Now since November 2019 we came to our pastor Fr Ed at St Vincent de Paul in Austin Tx and he set us on the path to get our marriage convalidated so we can get rite with our religion and receive communion once again . Please to say we are doing this on May 29 2020 after all the classes and other goals we had to reach before this was allowed . We are so happy and have been sexually Celibate on top of other things we each are extremely happy and stress free coincidentally more than when we where sexually active and pre marriage cohabitating . It’s a trip and we are ecstatic to be good with the church soon and back on the rite track . We have we can now on the 29th of May go to confession and get convalidated and take communion on the same day!!! Gods direction and Mercy is truly incredible we love you guys God bless .

I stand by Fr. Rich and Ryan Dellacrosee's view about limbo. Although not everything is set on stone and the Church may not have concrete teachings about limbo we have our faith we can rely on. Faith that we have a good, all knowing, loving and merciful God who can extend immense grace simply because He is a loving God.

This channel has been an absolute blessing. You gentlemen have helped bring me closer to my Faith through knowledge and laughter. I appreciate the banter, wisdom, and insight this channel provides. You're all in my prayers for God to continue to enlighten you, strengthen you, and bring you Peace. That being said, there's complete arrogance shown in this episode with boxing God in. He is GOD, and HE can decide with His infinite Love and total discretion, how to handle any and all things beyond our own understanding. To presume otherwise is flat out disregarding His merciful Heart. Some people who have had NDEs even talked about miscarried babies being up in heaven to greet them. May Jesus be cradling them all in His vast and loving arms forever and ever 🙏

Father Pagano I am so so grateful to have listened to Gods call to join SJP2 and become a Catholic. This show isnt afraid to tackle all kinds of difficult issues. It is helping me personally so much. This episode in particular was not only helpful in understanding and shall I say even adopting the concept of purgatory, but then for you to end it with the concept that God's mercy is beyond human conceptualization...all babies go to Heaven...just reaffirms my understanding of God's calling to me. Thank you for your devotion to ministry. May God bless you in abundance.

Catholicism is a religion that focuses on sin when the Church should be focused on Jesus and His message of love, charity and out-reach. Your discussion re. purgatory and indulgence shows the Church unable to move from the Middle Ages (1500) to the modern day. So much of Catholicism alienates people because the bottom line of Catholicism is to sit in a pew and watch the priest do everything. Any Catholic who tends to activism soon grows unhappy and moves on. In an age when the Church' is having trouble attracting young American men to the priesthood, the Church is getting its future priests from Africa, India and other emerging countries. I am from a large family with many young people in their midst. Most of the family are active Catholics, but once their children (boys and girls) move from the family to live on their own, the young people refuse to go to Church. When the chips are down, the future of the Catholic Church is in question!

Jesus said “I tell you this day, you will be with me in paradise”. It heavily depends on where you pause and how the sentence is structured. If He said “ I tell you, this day you will be with me in paradise”. It has a different meaning depending on where you put the comma lol They both make sense and yet have very different meanings. So I stick with we “know” that the Blessed Virgin Mary is in Heaven based on the Bible. Dismus might still be in Purgatory for all we know.

Hope this video explains things better than my RCIA class. If I take them at their word I went into the class believing in purgatory with just a few questions and left almost convinced out of it because of the umbilical un convincing way it was presented. I'm nearly convinced that RCIA is the means in which people never even want to join the church because they know only half of what they are talking about and the explanations given are so childish and surface level they could be refuted by most middle school protestant Sunday school attendees.

I like the scratch vs amputated thumb analogy. The IHM sisters tought us that venial sin was like a flesh wound in battle, not good, but we can heal that ourselves with appropriate care, and continue to live. A mortal wound in battle, by definition, ends in death. It would require some exceptional intervention, to have any chance of perhaps avoiding death, as the inevitable outcome. In the same way, the wound of mortal sin causes death of the soul (total separtion from God). The sin is a mortal wound to the soul, not only because it is a grave matter, but because it was chosen with full consent. The mortal wound to the soul can be healed....but due to the seriousness of the wound, requires the graces from the sacrament of reconciliation, and appropriate "medicine " of reparations.

I've heard it suggested that purgatory is symbolic of reincarnation (which I think is a heresy, according to the Church); but considering how much growing I have to do, and I'm already in my 40's: purgatory, reincarnation, or SOMETHING would definitely be necessary for me to achieve perfection. I don't see how anyone could achieve it in 1 lifetime. There's so much to learn and so many ways in which we must mature.

Just saw this episode and it was very thought provoking. I am 73 so grew up with the concept of purgatory. What I have never understood was how indulgences are applied. For example, if I am offering up my prayers, acts, etc for the souls in purgatory can I offer them up for specific individuals or for specific groups, as in family members who have died and might be in purgatory? If all prayers go into a "pool" how are they distributed. I doubt anyone knows the answer for sure, and I apologize for asking such a stupid one, but I often feel guilty if I don't offer my actions up for any family that might still need "help". 😊 Love the show and I also believe that God would not punish the souls of unborn or newly born children who were not able to be baptized by sending them to hell. He is a good and merciful God.

I was in the Air Force and have been through simulated decontamination in which we are stripped of our contaminated clothing given a shower and then given clean clothes. I have a book written by Fr. Alessio Parente who had assisted Padre Pio in his last years of life. The book he had written is entitled "The Holy Souls". In the book, St. Padre Pio who had a vision of purgatory said that purgatory is like a section in Hell. The sufferings are the same as in Hell and the only difference is that in purgatory sufferings are temporary whereas in Hell it's eternal. It was also mentioned in the book that according to St. Padre Pio there are different degrees of sufferings in purgatory. The time people remain in purgatory differs as well greatly. Some souls according to the book stays in purgatory for just a little while or for very very long years even ages. In the booklet I have based on the works and words of Sr. Emmanuel and Maria Simma and Other Sources("Devotion to the Holy Souls of Purgatory" Fr. Romeo S. Hitosis, SSP Translator and Fr. Domie G. Guzman, SSP Editor) It was mentioned by Maria Simma, a mystic visited by souls from purgatory that people can actually ask the Lord to make their own purgatory on earth instead of having it after death.

Persephone Stars - Not really the end of the story, just the end of the episode. “The Church has shown by her teach and practice that she knows no other way apart from baptism for ensuring children’s entry into eternal happiness.” -Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, 1980 AD, with approval of Pope John Paul II “The faithful are earnestly to be exhorted to take care that their children be brought to the church, as soon as it can be done with safety, to receive solemn Baptism. Since infant children have no other means of salvation except Baptism, we may easily understand how grievously those persons sin who permit them to remain without the grace of the Sacrament longer than necessity may require, particularly at an age so tender as to be exposed to numberless dangers of death.” -Catechism of the Council of Trent; Issued by Pope Saint Pius V in 1547 A.D.
