Does the DNKtune work?

This is a report on the performance modification I have made on my Triumph Thruxton R since 2016 and how they work.
I have purchased all of the modifications, none were given or provided to me.
Most performance modifications when linked together properly can have synergistic affect and produce better than expected results.
I think this was what happened with these modifications.

Just added DNK tune to the Tiger 900 RP and it seems to have upped the performance of the Sport mode by a lot. I'm happy with it.

Great stuff mate, a few guys have added the DNK to the R3 too, and again takes the limiters off for top end, opens up full throttle in lower gears and some guys been reporting 175+ rwhp, 🤩 amazing how much tuning ability in the Triumphs 😎 I doubt R3 would get U.K. to same speed because it’s such a brick tho 😂 but it has the longer gearing & perhaps a custom bodywork R3 would be very interesting at Bonne.

I would be curious to see a dyno of the DNK tune. I used the Penner tune on my 2021 and it had 160hp at the rear wheel with 144ftlbs of torque. It didn't get rid of the speed limiter and you can see on the dyno plot that it nosed over in 6th at 150mph. I was able to get full pulls out of the bike in 4th and 5th though. Slight bummer as 6th was showing more power than 4th and 5th, though very minor, all 3 gears showed almost identical plots. The Penner tune removes the torque limitations of the bike but it won't remove the speed limiter, it is supposed to be stock or pretty close to stock fueling. If you did get one of the tunes that removed the top speed limitation for the R3, it would redline at 186mph or 300kmh. If I did that I would have to find different tires as the stock ones are not rated for 186.

@@vsteel yeah a few guys have removed the 2020 R3 Rev limiter in top 2 gears and the 70% throttle restrictor in bottom 3 gears, and adds 400rpm at top end, that’s why I roll on 4th most as you can feel it’s less restricted and is so flexible 😎 more details on the R3 FB groups, ride safe brother ✌️ P.S. reckon the motor would Rev to 8500 and the power wants to keep going on the right map but maybe Carpenters will figure that out 🤔

@@justdad53 absolutely, the closing TBs thing is a funny one, feels like alchemy but know there is science behind it, I recall the Vmax partly closed the TBs at higher revs or maybe it was an induction inlet, to make peak power, 🤔

@@78Outlaw Not science in this case; they are restricting the motor plain and simple. They have further restricted the motor in the Speed Twin; offering a “higher” performance version (the same motor) in the Thruxton. It’s just BS.

I'll be taking a 260 horsepower Rocket 3 to Bonneville in August 2023. The video will be on the Flat Cap Cafe Racer channel in late August 2023.

hey bud , i reached out to you a few times about your belly pan and also your clipons being dropped ....once again appreciate your videos and experimentations with bike and mods have saved me time effort and questions before even asking em ....... nonetheless been interested in that TEC cam for awhile now , was told by a triumph dealer who did an install of that cam on a customers bike that for some reason the ECU had trouble registering topdead center when starting bike ? did you install cam yourself also have you experienced any problems starting bike after cam install ?! please get back to me , thanks Lou

I have no idea why did not respond to your comment, it looks like I read it. Sorry. I had the local Triumph install the cam and have no problems of any kind with the bike. I just noticed your comment was not answered while rewatching the video, again sorry Lou.

DNK is not only rubbish but they are rude. Customer service is horrible. Bike at 4500-4800 sputters and they refused to admit tat maybe they made a gif. Tok it to a shop and not only do they lock ut your ECU but they told me the DNK tune was crap. Stay away. Power commander is the way.

This is the 3rd time replying to this comment, I'm not sure what happened to the first two. I released this video a couple years ago and since that time I have heard similar complaints as yours regarding customer service. I also have heard complaints since then of people not liking how their bike ran afterwards. The only thing I can say is my bike runs great and has had no problems since the DNKtune was loaded over three years ago. It runs well on the dyno, street, strip and at Bonneville and much better than it did with the power commander 5 after dyno tuning. I guess it comes down to risk and reward like it does on most performance parts.

Four Words: DNK tune is a rubish.
@justdad53
@justdad53 Жыл бұрын
Well that is five words. My results over a couple years shows the DNKTUNE to be reliable and I have objective evidence showing the performance is much improved at the drag strip, land speed racing. I am curious to why you think it is rubbish?

@@justdad53 Yes it is four words. Like you had very good customer experience and bike performance increase, but mine experience was terrible. 1. They are rude incompetent with ordinarry customerts, agree all what he was saying kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pt-le6hhl52ZaY0.html 2. Performance is 0 % increase with DNK map on Triumph bonneville, actually it's even worsen, bike readings like short and long term fuel trims went from ok to bad, I had only 20% left ECU for self correction. 3. Show them your bike OBD readings and they will blame your bike, or say you dont know what you are talking in very rude way. 4. None of bussness should treat customers like this. 5. They really have no clue about fuel trims, or they do, but will not waist time, even you paid for a map When they send first map, bike from idle was dying, I asked to rewise, they send another, then my fuel trims worsen, then they start blaming my bike and I dont know what I taling and all these OBD readings. The only you can increase bike performace is to change AFR and maybe, if agreed with customer timing for higher octane fuel, otherwise there is nothing much to change, F or L tables will just works with AFR, but if you got better performance is what you can do to add more fuel and then adjust F or L table for short and long fuel trims so burn will happen perfetly. DNK is scam to my eyes.

@@viktorask I don't think customers should be treated rudely and that is unacceptable. I have heard similar complaints about mistreatment from other customers on the Rat forum. I'm confused about you situation because I'm fairly certain DNK has run their Bonneville on the dyno to ensure their tune works. In any case I think they should have had enough experience to help troubleshoot your situation and if they could not resolve it to your satisfaction then I think you deserve a refund. After a couple years I might caveat and down grade my recommendation especially when comes to customer service. Thanks for you comments.

@@justdad53 I have learned how to tune map myself. Now bike runs perfectly with new all high flow filters, pipe, camshaft etc. I removed DNK map long time ago and had conversation with DNK, they left blaming myself and contacting them after 14 days gone, even I told them once before 14 days were allowed to work out. So they lost not only 1 customer, but bunch of my friends who would go if my exp would be ok. To be honest it's very simple to tune if you can read oxygen sensors via OBD.
