@@rafayshakeel4812 you just type the exact time that you want to link to and write the text after it, like if I write 00:00, KZfaq is designed to automatically turn that into a link to that particular time in the video. I don't expect you both to accurately represent Christian doctrine, but I just wanted to let you know that there are genuine Christians out there watching you and see through the underhandedness of Muslims/critics of Christianity. I myself don't "hate" the cross but I have difficulty understanding why such a horrible death ( in various ways) had to accepted by Jesus in order to bear our sins. I wonder what it means that the "cross" is the "power of God"? I do believe that Jesus took our curse ( of sin, etc) upon Himself. Of course they were wrong, whoever died in his place was so similar, so similar, so similar that not even his mother (Maria) noticed the difference. Someone had to come after 600 years to say that everyone who witnessed the event was deceived, after all it was not Jesus Christ on the cross, in reality it was someone else who switched places with Jesus. Only someone very limited in intelligence does not recognize that Christians are mistaken.

In my opinion, the Quran is clear "it appears to the people followers of prophet Jesus (pbuh) that he was killed or the jews trying to kill him appeared to them he was killed" what really happened Allah knows and He said that prophet Jesus was not crucified and not killed, but Allah elevated him to the heavens. History will only report what appear to people.

@Sultan Please factor in Q3:7 when you read Q4:157 Q3:7 “ He is the One Who has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book, of which some verses are precise-they are the foundation of the Book-while others are elusive. Those with deviant hearts follow the elusive verses seeking ˹to spread˺ doubt through their ˹false˺ interpretations-but none grasps their ˹full˺ meaning except Allah. As for those well-grounded in knowledge, they say, “We believe in this ˹Quran˺-it is all from our Lord.” But none will be mindful ˹of this˺ except people of reason.” According to my belief and studies Christ was on a cross and the true meaning of Q4:157 is speaking figuratively and the exact meanings of Christ being “killed” and “crucified” needs to be examined with Biblical verses to best understand what Allah is communicating to us through Q4:157. Consider the following Biblical verses: John 10:17-18 “ Because of this the Father loves me, because I lay down my life so that I may take possession of it again. [18] NO ONE TAKES IT FROM ME, BUT I LAY IT DOWN VOLUNTARILY. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take possession of it again. This commandment I received from my Father.” Deuteronomy 21:22-23 “ [22] And if a man commits a sin punishable by death, and so he is put to death and you hang him on a tree, [23] his dead body shall not hang on the tree, but certainly you shall bury him on that day, for cursed by God is one that is being hung; so you shall not defile your land that Yahweh your God is giving to you as an inheritance.” The verses in John 10 that I provided shows that Christ knowingly and willingly became a shaheed (martyr) for the sake of Allah and his unjust persecution, passion, and manner of execution was part of God’s test for him. By undergoing all of that pain and anguish he left the world an example to follow regarding those Believers who are tried mightily in this life. They shouldn’t lose hope in Allah but instead should remain with good akhlaq and trust that ultimately Allah “is the best disposer of affairs.” This is why Allah resurrected Christ w/in 3 days time (in order to give the people a physical representation of the resurrection that awaits all of us before Yom al Qiyama). Also the verse in Deuteronomy 21 explains why the Jewish authorities who sought to persecute Christ chose to punish him in such a manner (crucifixion). According to their scriptures this was a manner of death that cursed those who were killed by it (crucifixion). For this reason Allah tells us in Q4:157 that they (Jews) did not kill him (he willingly became shaheed as a part of his prophethood) nor crucify (curse him by God) him instead it was made to appear so (because of their hard hearts and lack spiritual insight). Allah knows best 🙏

Then will you not reason? هَا أَنتُمْ هَٰؤُلَاءِ حَاجَجْتُمْ فِيمَا لَكُم بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلِمَ تُحَاجُّونَ فِيمَا لَيْسَ لَكُم بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ - 3:66 Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? I am still inclined to believe the substation theory. Reasons being..... 1. Several aHadith about the return of Isa (as) at the end of times and leading the Muslims. It would be a new and unprecedented situation to have someone come back from the dead to lead the people. Possible I suppose. But not inclined to believe it. 2. To me the main word in the 4-157 is the word ‘them’. Made to appear to ‘them’. Who is them? It seems ‘them’ should be referring to the jews who were trying to kill Isa (as). That doesn’t mean the rest of the people living in the time were tricked. They could have been fully aware that Isa (as) was not killed. We just don’t know. The historical accuracy of the time period is not strong. By our own Hadith standards all their history would be considered weak ahadith at best. 3. Allah reemphasizes that ‘they killed him not’. Saying it twice. And also says those who differ are following conjecture and are full of doubts. The main argument and discussion on the matter has been was Isa (as) killed or not. Not who did it. For Allah to emphasize that he was not killed seems to lend to the idea that he isn’t dead. Not that the jews didn’t kill him. What does following conjecture and being full of doubts have to do with who killed him ? That isn’t something people have been arguing about and discussing for years. Now, whether he is dead or not? Yes. That is the main discussion. And discussed often. I find it less likely Allah reiterates ‘for a surety they killed him not’ to refer to the lesser point of contention. The supposed scholars claiming Esa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ was crucified are being purposely ignorant and borderline blasphemous. Probably more than borderline.

Q 2:154 And say not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah, "They are dead." Nay, they are living, but you perceive (it) not. Q 3:144 And Muhammad is merely a messenger. Indeed, messengers from before him passed away. So if he died or is slain, will you then turn back on your heels? ... So Dr. Fatoohi is absolutely right in that the Qur'an distinguishes between passing away by natural causes, and being killed or murdered. I want to take this opportunity to draw attention to something interesting related to this topic, but I believe not many Muslims are aware of. Q 19:2-7 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya. When he called to his Lord; a secret call. He said: "My Lord! Indeed, my bones have weakened, and my head flared white, and I have not been unblessed in my supplication to You, my Lord. And indeed, I fear for the successors after me, and my wife is barren. So give to me from Yourself an heir. Who will inherit from me and will inherit from the Family of Yacub. And make him pleasing, my Lord." "O Zakariya! Indeed, We give you glad tidings of a boy, his name is to be Yahya; We have not assigned this name prior to this." Q 19:12-15 "O Yahya! Hold the Book with strength." And We gave him the wisdom when he was a child. And affection from Us, and purity, and he was righteous. And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a rebellious tyrant. And peace upon him the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the Day he will be raised alive! So, did you catch that? Yahya's case is the same as Eesa's. Allah says "..the day Yahya dies", and He does not say "..the day he was killed by Herod Antipas". Yahya(as) wasn't executed. The Christian sources claim that John the Baptist was beheaded by some idiot ruler, at the behest of princess Herodias. Antipas motives in this are immoral and perverse. John's head is then presented on a golden platter during a feast. The Qur'an clearly contradicts this narrative by stating that Yahya(as) wasn't executed, i.e. he wasn't killed, murdered, slain or martyred. Look at Zakariya's supplication to Allah. Zakariya(as) says he fears for his successors after him. He doesn't have a son, so he's asking Allah for a son to succeed him, so that the bloodline of Yacub continues. Allah grants him(as) his request. Yahya(as) will inherit from the Family of Yacub, but what does all of that matter if Yahya(as) is executed? The line will be cut off anyway. There's more to it than that. Look at how Allah describes Yahya(as) from verse 12 to 15. Pay attention to the form of the verbs. Every line is in the past tense. These verses is Allah SWT informing Muhammad(saw), and us, indirectly, of past events. Why then the sudden shift in verse 15? "Peace was on Yahya the day he was born" is the last verse that refers to these events in the past. "The day he dies and the Day he will be raised alive" are both future tense. This isn't in the past anymore, it's in Muhammad's future(saw) now. Meaning that Yahya(as), like Eesa(as) hasn't died yet. He certainly wasn't executed, that's for sure. Now I know this might sound controversial, but think about it.. What's so special about a name that Allah has pre-ordained the boy's name, and specifically mentions that there's something unique about his name? Names have meaning. It's not so much that the unique thing about it is that nobody before was named Yahya, but it's something about what his name means that is unique. Allah's names are also His attributes, right? So what meaning does the name Yahya have? In the meaning of the name, there's a clue. There's something about his name that implies a prolonged life. When was Yahya(as) ever accused of being a tyrant? Any historical sources for that? No. None. Then why is Allah clearing him(as) of such an accusation? Isn't it true that during the Isra wa Miraaj, Muhammad(saw) was transported to the higher heavens, and in each heaven, he(saw) met with a prophet? Except when he(saw) visited the second heaven; there were two whom he(saw) saw there: Eesa(as) and Yahya(as). And Eesa(as), we know, was alive, as Allah informs us that he(as) was not killed by his enemies, but that Allah, instead, raised him(as) towards Himself. Now, Allah is not in a place, so this expression is like referring to the Kaaba as "the House of Allah", while Allah does not dwell in a house. Rather, Allah's name is linked to the Kaaba because of the House's high status. Likewise, the second heaven is referred to as a place of importance. And the fact that Eesa(as) can be alive and well in the second heaven is further evidenced by the fact that Muhammad(saw) was alive and well when he(saw) visited that realm. In other words; death is not a requirement to exist in that place. And Allah provides for Eesa(as) in everything he(as) needs. Eesa(as) will eventually return, and when he(as) does, Islam will be the only Deen that is going to be accepted from the people of the whole world. All other ideologies and beliefs will be rejected with a complete rejection. Could it be then, in light of the aforementioned, that "rebellious tyrant" is a reference to a description that the people in the future will accuse Yahya(as) of? There are striking parallels between Eesa(as) in the Qur'an, and Yahya(as). There is no mentioning however of Yahya(as) returning along with Eesa(as) in the literature, for as far as I know, but I think all of this is food for thought, and there's more that can be said about this, but this suffices. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, knows best.

Dear Paul thank you very much for your work. According to the Bible, Deuteronome 21:22-23, we read : "If a man does a crime for which the punishment is death, and he is put to death by hanging him on a tree; Do not let his body be on the tree all night, but put it to rest in the earth the same day; for the man who undergoes hanging is cursed by God; so do not make unclean the land which the Lord your God is giving you for your heritage." I think God saved Jesus (pbuh) from this curse. Because it is a law of God. And in the Qur'an, Allah also asked to crucify a person who commits disorder against God (Sura 5:33). Since the Jews were applying the law of the Torah on an innocent person (Jesus -pbuh-), Allah therefore saved Jesus(pbuh) from this crucifixion because he did not deserve this. For the Jews, Jesus was preaching other words other than those which were in the Torah, - i.e., those that Moses and the prophets who came after him left -, so it was normal for them to think of crucifying him in order to respect the commandment of God. Except that they are the ones who did not understand the language of Jesus, because they had a hard heart. Allah made their hearts hard and they did not understand anything. As far as I'm concerned, I think it's not so good for Muslims to argue about the crucifixion of Jesus. Since Allah has made it clear in the Qur'an that anyone who has argued about it (about the crucifixion) is in error (sourah 4:157). Allah is the only one who knows what really happened. All I know is that Jesus is not dead yet and will die when Allah brings him back to Earth. Allah made it clear that all the people of the book (especially Jews and Christians) will believe in him before his death (4:159). Many people say that Jesus died. They are in error and they have denied the clear proofs that Allah has given us in the Qur'an. Jesus never tasted death. May Allah reward you and all those who seek the truth.

@@BloggingTheology This rather misses the point. Let us say that the Qur'an's claim is 'logically possible', it still remains the case that the best historical evidence is that Jesus was crucified. It is completely inexplicable that the early Christians would claim that Jesus was crucified, if he wasn't, given that the expected Messiah was supposed to be victorious over his enemies, not defeated by them. So, I think it is a choice between reason and blind faith at this point! Bart D Ehrmann, Gerd Ludemann, etc., all agree that from a historical point of view its practically certain that Jesus was crucified, which is why Abdal Hakim Murad has argued that the text _only_ denies that he was killed by the Jews. Moreover, that text from the Qur'an reflects almost word for word Pre-Islaimic Sethian Gnosticism, which was present in Arabia.

“Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to CRUCIFY [him]: and the third day he shall rise again”. (Matthew 20:18-19 KJV) Witnesses to the crucifixion of Jesus ; The sign above Jesus’ head on the cross named Him personally; “And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS”. (Matthew 27:37, KJV) Jesus addressed His mother and disciple (John) from the cross (John 19:26-27) . One of the Centurions looking up at Jesus on the CROSS, acknowledging Jesus as the Son of God (Matt 27:54;Mark 15:39) Joseph of Arimathea sought the body of Christ FROM the CROSS and buried Him in His tomb. (John 19:38) Thirdly , majority of scholars, including Muslims favourite non Muslim scholar, Bart Ehrman, agree, the crucifixion of Jesus is an historical fact and “beyond dispute .” Fourthly , while the Gospels were written within 35-65 years after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, the Quran was written almost 600 years after the events . Historians such as Tacitus mention the crucifixion of Jesus and even associating the name of Pontius Pilate (The Annals 15:44) Jewish historian , Josephus, writes “this is the Christ who was crucified by Pilate .” Lucian (Greek writer ) of Samosta records the crucifixion of Jesus in The Passing of Peregrinnus. Collectively, the facts stack in favour of the Scriptures , that Jesus WAS crucified but Muslims would rather be live a man who NEVER met Jesus and accounts written almost 600 years + after he events . Unbelievable 🤦‍♂️

This talk is of much significance. Kudos to Paul Sir The honorable mainstream scholors who argued in favour of crucifixtion be it Muhammad abdu, Rashid Rida or Sir Sayyed have one thing in common, they all belong to era of peak of colonialism and they all had a urge to reform muslim communities in lines of europe. Agreement and common terms with christanity were essential in doing that. They are not to blame but one has to recongnise sort of colonial prejudices in their interpretations

Hey Paul, I've never read the Quran so this presentation is important. To me, as a Christian believer, the most important subject is not IF Jesus was crucified., but WHY? I think that no matter who we are, Muslims or Christians ( or another religion), we should concentrate on the reasons why Jesus would have been obedient to God the Father and accept death on a cross. Assuming Jesus was historically crucified, we need to dig deeper into the scriptures that reveal why Jesus was crucified. Do you think Muhammed himself accepted the idea that Jesus was crucified? I really appreciate this presentation. Peace

@John B Peace be upon you brother 🙏 You’ve brought up an excellent point!! The “why” is crucial and can be understood from 1 Peter 2. 1 Peter 2:20-23 “ For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if you endure when you do good and suffer for it, this finds favor with God. [21] For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, LEAVING YOU AN EXAMPLE, so that you should follow in his footsteps, [22] who did not commit sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth,[23] who when he[d] was reviled, did not revile in return; when suffering, he did not threaten, but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly,” Christ’s death was a part of the covenant that he brought and it helped give hope to all who live hard lives and are tested mightily by God in this life. They can rest assured that acting calmly and graciously will see them resurrected and in God’s good graces assuming they were His faithful worshippers during their lives. Peace be upon you

Great presentation by Dr. Fatoohi. I've read several works of his and have found them all to be very insightful. However, I think there is a major problem which he isn't really addressing here. The discussion of whether Jesus was crucified or not shouldn't be happening in a vacuum. It must include the fact that Jesus was thought to have been crucified by all of his disciples. For this we have undeniably strong evidence within NT literature. From Paul's authentic letters, it's clear that everyone, including Peter and Jesus' brother James and the rest of his followers believed that Jesus had been crucified and was dead. Ok so perhaps they were simply unaware for some reason that their beloved teacher hadn't actually been killed. But then another issue arises. James, Peter, John and the others all claimed that God had raised Jesus. So why is this an issue? Well, as Muslims we ALSO believe that God had raised Jesus. However, we believe this was PRIOR to his crucifixion. As Muslims, how do we know God raised Jesus? Because God tells us in the Quran. However, how did James, Peter and the rest know that he had been raised? God didn't tell them right? Well clearly they knew somehow and if they knew this then it means that somehow God must have intervened in some miraculous way to let them know that he had been raised. But despite knowing that God had raised Jesus, they all believed and indeed proclaimed that the crucifixion happened and that Jesus had indeed died. So now this becomes very strange. If they knew that God had miraculously raised Jesus, why would they also say that he had died first? Wouldn't they have known that he was already raised prior to the crucifixion? Well apparently not. So the only reasonable solution as a Muslim is to say that after Jesus' arrest, God raised Jesus up and somehow no one realizes this. Then, everyone including his family, disciples, and opponents are fooled into thinking that Jesus was crucified. Then God reveals to Jesus' family & disciples that actually I raised Jesus up, but doesn't mention the fact that Jesus wasn't actually crucified. So now these poor disciples continue on mistakenly thinking that Jesus had indeed been crucified and spend the rest of their lives trying to convince other Jews (with almost no success) that even though Jesus had in fact died, he was still the messiah. Personally, that scenario just doesn't make much sense to me. I will say that personally, I don't really see any issue reading the crucifixion verse as only a rejection of the claim of the prophet's Jewish opponents that it was Jews who had killed Jesus. What modern scholarship has made abundantly clear, and perhaps the Quran itself here is alluding to as well, is that the Jews in fact DIDN'T kill Jesus. Crucifixion was Roman punishment. Technically speaking, he was killed by Romans. Over the decades and centuries after Jesus' death, Christians gradually shifted all of the blame on to Jews to the point that everyone then and now actually thinks that Jews killed Jesus. So it has been made to appear as if they had killed him, but they didn't. Romans did though. So now everything makes sense. Jesus isn't killed by Jews (something both the Quran and Christians can agree on), then God raises him (something both Muslims and Christians agree on), and the disciples find out that Jesus has been raised by God (again something we know as Muslims and they knew through visionary experiences apparently). But as Dr. Fatoohi says, at the end of the day, as a Muslim it doesn't really matter to us theologically whether or not Jesus died on the cross. But I think Muslims do need to better understand and address the events that took place immediately following Jesus' death. That is, why his disciples and own brother would have said that he was raised AFTER his death.

Whilst we can agree with what is described as 'the inerrancy of the Quran' we should also be aware of 'errancy of interpretation' and 'loss or addition in translation'. The assertion that passages of the Quran can be shown to support the denial of Jesus's death by crucifixion has to be balanced with verses in the Quran which imply that Jesus lived to old age on earth after the crucifixion event ( in Khwaja Nazir Ahmad's Jesus in Heaven on Earth). If the Quran says that Jesus was not killed through crucifixion, it is not only possible but also probable that Jesus was placed on the cross but survived the ordeal. This means that Jesus was not crucified since he did not pass the test for expiration of mortal life while on the cross or in the tomb.

Quran points out that the church will not be able to pull out definitive evidence to defend the crucifixion. _And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain._ (Quran 4.157)

If the jews and Christians say that Islam is a false religion, they are also automatically saying that their religions are false as well. In the bible, God made a promise to Hagar and Abraham that he would make the descendants of Ishmael a great nation. Arabs, descendants of Ishmael became a great nation only through Islam. When the world was drowned in polytheism of the trinity, Islam restored the pure and strict monotheism of abrahamic faith. The Bible says that God will bless those who bless Abraham. The muslims are the ones who bless Abraham most daily in every prayer.
