Depends on the blade geometry. Mora knives are bushcraft knives with scandi grinds which are more durable and better suited for splitting rather than slicing. He should have tried using a kitchen knife with a regular flat grind cause chances are he probably ground a whole new bevel into the Mora since the angle isn't adjustable on this model.

Back in the late 90's, my great grandfather built a homemade knife sharpener that he was extremely proud of. He would sharpen my whole family's kitchen knives and what not, and they were always really impressed, so I tried, and tried to get him to sharpen my pocket knife with it, and he never would because he was afraid I would cut my finger off or something (you know how grandpas are). When I got a little bit older, and more responsible (about 12 years old), I finally talked him into sharpening my same old pocket knife. It was incredibly sharp. I went around the trailer park, and literally cut every single trailer house in half with it. They ended up kicking my grandpa out over it.

I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm kzfaq.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

I kid you not, I went backpacking in the grand canyon for a week and forgot my razor and had broken my utility knife a day earlier, I had a tiny little butter knife in my utensils pouch and grounded the round edge on different grit rocks I could find until I had a respectable edge, then I took my leather belt and wrapped it around a tree, then pulled as tight as I could and gave the butter knife a scarry edge, I used it to shave my face the next morning and it became a great emergency knife for many other adventures I had in the coming years, I still have it and used it every now and again. But it took me about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to give it an edge, but with a machine like this it would take all of 20 minutes.

This is a great, fun video - everything Tyler says is valid. and honest. BUT - you have to understand that a Worksharp machine - I absolutely love mine - is just a specialized a belt sander. There's nothing at all wrong with that as most of our favorite knives are created in a grinding or stock removal process. You can make a dull knife razor sharp quite quickly, but you do that by grinding away some of the metal. How long it stays sharp is dependent on the quality of the metal. You can take a flat slug of metal that has squared off edges from squared off to razor sharp in a few minutes, but you might create some scratches on the unsharpened surfaces, and you will almost certainly change the shape of the blade if only subtlely. I love my Worksharp machine. I can make any piece of any kind of metal sharp almost instantly, but I cannot make crap metal steel into high quality metal. You can make high quality metal extremely sharp, but you can't make it look like it is factory sharp, never sharpened by the consumer. Worksharp is FABULOUS for working metal, but it will instantly destroy any collectible value of an unsharpened knife. It's an incredibly good sharpening system for an expendable work blade that you need to make sharp. It will mess up a blade you want to keep in mint condition. You're likely to ruin the tip of a pointy knife, and you're likely to alter the shape, even if very slightly, of a collectible knife that you mean to sell for a profit at some later date, if you happen to be one of those who buy a knife new and sell it when it becomes classic. Do not use a Worksharp device on a knife you expect to sell someday - but you can be absolutely comfortable using it on a knife you need sharp as possible for some type of work as long as you have no concerns about the future value of the knife. Worksharp is not for a collector, it is for a USER of knives and other sharp edged tools - and it is very, very good at making any piece of metal sharp.

I love their guided field sharpener it’s a 3 step sharpening system that fits in your pocket he has a coarse and fine diamond plate and coarse/fine ceramic honing rod and a leather strop you make the dullest knife ever razor sharp

ok, this is the second time ive watched a video of yours that you tried slicing tomatoes... and i have to say something... slice the tomato in half like you did on the first cut then lay the tomatoes on it now flat side. put the point of the knife on the cutting board with the tomatoes behind the knife, then pull the knife back towards you, towards the tomato, keeping the point of the knife on the cutting board at all times.

1. Of course work sharp will sharpen. 2. You should always hone the edge after... honing is not "if you feel like it" like Tyler mentioned. 3. Tomatoes are used because of the hard exterior/soft interior. Dull knives will spilt their way through. Sharp will slice.

Tyler if you can read this when you were using the knife in the water bottle and said it wasn’t sharp enough to go through watch the replay in your hand was going up that’s why didn’t cut all the way through the knife blade was not straight

Someone probably already said, but after you sharpen, do use the ceramic rod to hone the knives. It will knock the burrs off the blade (a product of sharpening) and it will slice much better.

I don't even need to watch the video, just popped by to comment on the fact that this thing is the BEST sharpener I ever owned. It sharpens ALL my knifes, tools, bits and haven't seen. Even the high strength CRKT knifes and makes them sharp in no time flat. I never use the guide and learned to just free hand it and it makes a HUGE difference with the beveled edge. LOVE IT! Edit: I use the Ken Onion edition

I'd really like you to do a test on the larger version of that brand. They have 1 model that will do any size blade & has a 3 stage belt setup that uses a honing type white belt. They run about $80.
