a simple fix would be to use a nut to screw the candle wick into it to stop it floating up.

Crayons have talc or cornstarch in them depending so probably what what put the candle out. Some people make dunno how but i never have.

I have made these yes they work and I scent mine with soy wax warmer wax from drug mart. And I used candle sticks .

Hi Mary - Do you secure the candles to the bottom somehow. Mine would float to the top as the crisco melted and then they would tip over and put themselves out.

@@UpcycleDesignLab Bah ha ha! I don't think you messed it up. Crisco candles would be good in an emergency. But it would most likely work better with a weighted wick rather than a birthday candle. I was intrigued by this and did some reading up on it. One woman did a layering method to add the essential oils. She added a bit of the melted Crisco followed by a layer of essential oils. Some are saying it's better to put the oil into a metal container (and a terracotta or othet heat resistant base) rather than glass and of course not keep it in the Crisco container because it's cardboard. One person melts the oil and transfers it to a metal coffee can and puts three wicks in it. Another person transferred Theirs to a metal paint can. Some use it to add extra heat to their homes. So fascinating!

1. Premade wicks come attached to a little metal base, so a bit of scrap soup can would do the trick, just shave off bottom of birthday candle, slit the metal base and secure the wick. 2. Think a cotton twine would make a good wick? 3. Would coconut oil work?

Hi Rebecca - yes I should have gotten some real wicks. I am sorry but I am the wrong person to ask about candle making. I thought a match would make a good wick but it wouldn't burn at all.🤣🤣🤣 But I do like to experiment so I would encourage you to give your ideas a try. Thanks for watching.

Something to consider: the palm oil in Crisco is not sustainably sourced, not even close... in fact, the palm oil industry is quite damaging to the environment so if you are striving for low-impact crafting, this may not be the best choice.

In an emergency, I don't believe that people will be worrying about "sustainably sourced" oil or fuel for candles! So, in conclusion, everyone who wants to use Crisco with palm oil, please feel free to do so!
