I'm new to the channel, as I believe this is the first vid of yours I've watched. If I may though, I'd like to make some suggestions, and I won't be harsh or saying like "oh this was bad" or anything. This is just what I noticed though when watching the vid on my phone. For me personally, the speed of speech and especially subtitles were way to fast. If that's just the way you talk or prefer to talk, then I have no issue with it but I'm just saying to me it was a little speedy but at the same time each word was spread out in a good way when you talked. If that makes sense? Sorry I have a hard time describing things sometimes. Also, I personally think the form that was used for the yellow subtitles/text was not very efficient to let people follow what you were saying. As in, I could only pay attention to either the yellow text or what you were saying or the video content aside from it. Not all 3 at the same time. The text being highlighted as it being spoken really threw me off though, as it was fast and was replaced by the next upcoming word's/sentence and felt a little too snappy and not connected enough if that makes sense. I apologize if this all comes across as negative feedback. But I assure you I'm not trying to be negative. I respect you as a human and youtuber very much and appreciate the efforts and video. Mad respect for anyone who does that honestly, but I just think some aspects could be adjusted here is all.
@seanmurphy046
@seanmurphy046 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the really long comment by the way. I just wanted to list and talk about what I thought could be improved upon, ya know? Also, as a suggestion regarding what I said for the yellow subtitles, I would recommend putting the subtitles as just flat text to allow viewers to read what they can and not feel like they have to read it as the text is highlighted. If that makes sense I mean. Not sure if anyone ever felt the same way about that as me, but again just a suggestion. Other than the things like keeping up with the subtitles and speech, I think you did a great job bro. Appreciate it.

Oh and 1 or 2 quick things lastly. I think the audio quality was just fine, however I think the volume of certain things could be adjusted if it's possible. I noticed on the video, things like you talking in front of the camera vs clips like the person hitting a golf ball seemed to be completely different volume levels. The times you talked I felt I needed to turn up my phone volume, but when it went to the sound of hitting the golf ball in that clip it was really loud because of such. I don't think it's a sound Clarity issue so much as it is with volume levels. Again though, much respect to you regardless as I'm sure making a vid like this isn't easy.

Idk maybe because rom coms are so divorced from the reality of men. Maybe that's why

I think Tom is taking roles that he may not be that suited to play because he’s scared of just being the « spider man » actor sorta like Tobey was, specially because it was his breakout role. I also read that he's taking a breaking from acting after the "The Crowding Room", reportedly due to the toll the role took on his mental health. But he should definitely take a break because of the reasons listed in this video and be more strategic or critical of the roles offered to him.

He has potential to be a great actor, but he has a problem of sticking with main stream movies that don’t perform well. He needs to leave the MCU or leave blockbuster movies all together and take on complicated and complex rolls. I bet you if Tom worked with Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan or even Martin Scorsese, the audience wouldn’t even recognize him as the spider dude anymore. he needs to be pushed tortured, and suffer more with better characters. He won’t make up his mind about leaving the MCU. Every year we get an update claiming he wants to quit acting, but he doesn’t! He states if I’m still playing Spider-Man at 30 I did something wrong. Yet immediately goes makes a new deal for another trilogy? 🤣 Tom Holland doesn’t seem like he knows what he wants to be. Every movie Tom Holland has done outside of the MCU people just hate on it, but the moment he puts on that costume people love him again! 😂 Personally, for me his best movie was the Netflix film the Devil all the Time.

I love Tom Holland as an actor, and I have always loved his take on Spider-Man. If there is any reason for this odd situation of his other projects underperforming financially or critically, I think (in reality) it has very little to do with him as an actor. Simply put, I think Holland is so heavily associated with audiences as Spider-Man, that it is hard for them to see him as any other character. Similar to Christopher Reeve's career as Superman. And that association is a testement to his portrayl of Peter Parker and why he was probably the perfect pick for the role (which a lot of Spidey "fans" will get pissed about). From an outsider's perspective, Holland seems to be rushing towards any project and opportunity that will showcase his range as an actor. He started acting to act, not just be Spider-Man for the rest of his life. But, the fact remains, he will be Spider-Man for the rest of his life, and I think he will realize that with age and appreciate it more than you can in your mid twenties. I'm looking forward to his future appearances as the Web Slinger and his career as the PHENOMENAL ACTOR he is.

I understand where you're coming from, but if both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were able to prove that they are both more than just "the actors who played Spider-Man", in movies like "Seabiscuit", "The Social Network," "Brothers", "Never Let Me Go," "Pawn Sacrifice," and "Hacksaw Ridge," why can't Tom? He clearly has the potential and range to accomplish that, he just needs to surround himself with those who are more intune with his creativity.

His case is also different from Andrew and Tobey, he's in the MCU, he's a Spiderman that appears constantly in the universe, Andrew and Tobey had their movies cancelled and that was it, they had to make a name for themselves now after Spidey, Tom has been Spiderman for longer too. I loved the books and the casting seemed amazing but reviews put me off from watching it - I don’t want to see a book series I loved done poorly on screen. I will give it a watch sometime but it seems like the producers were to blame? Like the way it was done wasn’t great. But I’ll see for myself. I loved him in The Devil All the Time and maybe wouldn’t have watched that had Tom and Rob not been cast in it but they shined a light on the amazing script and their acting was top notch in it. I also enjoyed Uncharted as a player of the games. I understand people nitpicking it, but Tom was cast because he is a dynamic actor who does his own stunt work and it wasn’t a bad movie at all. Hopefully he can get a project soon that diversifies his talents and helps him grow into a new space, but I love Tom’s work and don’t understand the hate.

Its cool to see someone else feel the same about this topic. Sure its incicnificnt in the long run of the world but its one of those little things Ive thought about several times whenever I see the next Tom Holland film trailer. I genuinely think he is a great actor. I think his performance in The devil and all the time was great. He did very well in Cherry and of course, he gave a great and fulfilling performance for peter parker (in my opinion). It just feels like Tom is getting casted because he is Tom Holland. Because he is a fairly new face in the complicated and obscure industry of media and celebrity culture. I just personally think these roles are being given to him because when everyone sees the trailer for said project, they're gonna know that spiderman will be in it. I personally think he will find a role that will separate himself from the "popular,lead celebrity ideal cliche" . I don't know what it could be and I'm not sure if its soon but I hope to see it. Just a little thought rant for a little topic.

swings and roundabouts - he's trying to Dan-Radcliffe his way out of being typecast with more dramatic stuff while simultaneously cashing in on his action persona - which is dumb. Just FYI I think rotten tomatoes as a metric is pretty flawed as it just grades what percent of critics liked the movie as opposed to didn’t. Thus if 100 out of 100 critics thought the movie was a 6/10 the movie will get a 100% RT score, while if 100/100 critics gave it a 5.9/10 it would have a 0% RT score. Thus kids movies will have higher RT scores bc most critics will be like it was good/serves the purpose of a kids movie, giving stuff like onward a high score. I think a better metric of relative quality is metacritic or opencritic.

hes trying for leading roles but hes not at that level yet. Its been dicussed the problem of mcu actors being too tied with their characters that viewers will then associate them with that character and it harms their role in other films. This is definitely true for tom holland. Chris evans (and others ofc) however can play lead in another film and make it work. Yeah i could see him playing a snarky Brit pretty well in an R rated comedy, or a broker in a Scorcesse film. I like spider-man but i think it makes logical sense in the long run for actors to avoid having loyalty for roles like those. He’s already made a lifetime’s worth for the role and explored more world building with the character compared to the previous iterations, and has the highest grossing spider-man film of all time. I think to avoid being miscast as Peter parker for his entire career he should jump ship after he finishes the next movie runs, He already has six movies he played spider-man in, anything past ten is pretty insane.

I do think a lot of this for him comes down to execution issues and story issues, some of the movies he chooses have good stories but poor execution (which is not his fault bc he is actually good in the movie) and some are just not good and I wonder if he does in fact not read the scripts first. That won’t solve it necessarily as we have seen a good number of things lately that should be good tank recently but I some of things he’s in I just immediately think “that doesn’t even sound like it could be good”, granted I’m not an actor either but still

Given that he’s young, I believe he had the potential to better at choosing roles that sustain his reputation. As for now, we all agree that he’s a pretty great actor but just didn’t get the best scripts

Cherry was amazing imo. I thought his acting portraying an ex military who gets addicted really hit home with a lot of people. That is a sad but true reality of our society and the way we treat our vets. I felt so much emotion in it and it’s honestly one of my if not my favorite movie with him. The devil all the time was iconic too. Keep doing you Tom👏 You have a fan for life

With the new potential rise of rom-coms , Sydney Sweeney is doing one and it’s highly anticipated , I hope Tom does one too , he’s really charming that’s what he’s known for to the public , a nice , charming guy , he can really act , he was great the devil all the time , I get he might want more “serious “ roles after marvel but he really is choking questionable material , idk if it’s all about his manager tho cuz he’s at a place in his career where he read and chooses the projects ahead of time

I mean…. He’s a human! it’s probably exhausting to take on projects and never know the outcome. It’s various aspects that go into the film production. it’s bad enough people make entire videos analyzing and comparing his performances etc on a public domain.

I’m sure he can afford a miss. A HBO film that was done beautifully it’s just bland. He has some promising films but people down play Tom because he’s Spider-Man. Idk why you’d say he’s a type cast when he has a wide array of roles. From a addict to a 15 years old kid. His marketing team is fine. They have u talking

In my opinion, Holland can act, he is a talented actor with great potential, which unfortunately has not yet been fully exploited. In addition, he has a personal charm that makes fans of the MCU and not only love him. The problem seems to lie elsewhere. First of all, Tom is still a young actor with years of career ahead of him. We often forget that today's great actors started small and also failed. Secondly, the MCU helped him to become famous and hurt him at the same time, because he was not very well known before the role of Spider-Man. This role directed him and stuck a label on him. Currently, "great directors" have an opinion "eww MCU" and do not involve him in their projects, such as Chalamet. Fortunately, he has a lot of time, for now he earns huge money, then let him take a break and come back in a new style.Thirdly, I don't understand the hate associated with his filmography. Consider: Disney's (!) animation "Onward" is beautiful, touching, inventive, just like "Spies in Disguise" by a lesser-known studio (!). Animations should be judged by "young souls" and not rigid critics. Next, the most controversial - "Devil all the Time" (his acting is in top form in my opinion, right next to "Impossible" which deserves a separate pedestal), "Cherry" (Russo Brothers, right after Endgame!) and "The crowded room " - these are films that want to convey something important, but are not for everyone. Then a successful role in the MCU. Then "smaller" productions, imaginative and with big names "The lost city of Z", "In the heart of the sea" (Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy...) and "The current war" (with Cumberbatch!), the history of the invention of electricity Edison... Oppenheimer's potential. Also "Dr. Dolittle" with Robert Downey Jr. I'm only sad when it comes to "Chaos walking" - this film has been on the shelf for several years, so the end result is different from the assumed one. You probably haven't read the trilogy - brilliant - so you don't know that Holland was perfect for the role of Todd (just like Chalamet for Paul, again, equal potential if they made a decent trilogy out of it instead of cramming it into 1 movie). Also, in the role of the villain - Mads Mikkelsen (a great choice), who failed here and in "Fantastic Beast 3", only Hey, the guy is 60 years old and has a filmography three times as long. And so in the end (as I have already mentioned Chalamet, I will stick to this example) - Oscars are going downhill, looking at what is happening at the latest galas, so that Timothee is there (and in Cannes) and Tom is not, proves nothing (I've heard that). Tom has a "blockbuster" sticker for now and the directors don't see him in a different role, he immediately falls down trying to break with it, but he's still going to pick up speed ... Timothee is now having a great streak, which also may, but must, come to an end.

hey! very late to the video but you touched on everything I've thought lately, and hello? the production of this? so good. Genuinely makes me mad that there's clearly people around him who are just banking on people turning up to the movies he's in regardless of how good they are. I think the current climate of worker exploitation, especially in the film industry, was maybe something he wasn't well briefed on - the man seems massively burnt out. I remember him saying I think during the press tour of the first spider-man that his mum actually had to step in and say he needs a day off (where were the unions???). and the fact that there was no way of him going to the toilet in some of his costumes or to adequately drink water or eat... they were all joking about it then but god the hindsight couldn't be clearer

Honestly my friend and I was having this exact convo yesterday about Tom Holland since the crowded room came out and that series looks to be dogshit tbh and yep to me he’s won the actors lottery in playing Spider-Man as he does have a baby face and can continue doing two more trilogies if he wants to but what he needs to do in parallel to that is now choose to do exciting supporting roles in ensemble films so that he doesn’t have to share the burden or blame if it’s a flop like he would’ve if he lead that film cos he always got that safety of Spider-Man in the MCU in his back-pocket but if it film hits he gets huge respect in that serious/indie film world and expands his acting range at the same time.

I think he started his career in a massive franchise and feels pressured to keep the momentum going with big career-defining roles. But it would serve him better to scale down and rebuild his career as a novice. Take supporting roles with good directors, build a relationship with the best in the industry. Like Samuel L Jackson started making small appearances in Tarantino and Scorsese films before playing a key role in Pulp Fiction

I didn't know who Tom Holland was before the MCU, so yeah, to me he's still the guy who plays the third Spider-Man. I do think he's a great actor and I really like him as Spider-Man, but honestly his other movies have received such bad reviews that I'm not interested in watching them. I'm not a huge movie person though, I rarely explore new movies, I'm more into video games. And yes, he should definitely hire a better agent.

I think he needs to chill with the other movies until he’s done playing Spider-Man. He’s not going to get enough recognition for the other projects because a Spider-man movie will always generate more buzz. Plus Being Spider-man demands him to keep certain looks and physical traits so that could also be limiting him. I actually want to see him in more films using his UK accent, because his american one at this point is just Peter Parker in whatever he’s in. Maybe when he gets older he won’t seem so much like parker in his american films.
