hey! very late to the video but you touched on everything I've thought lately, and hello? the production of this? so good. Genuinely makes me mad that there's clearly people around him who are just banking on people turning up to the movies he's in regardless of how good they are. I think the current climate of worker exploitation, especially in the film industry, was maybe something he wasn't well briefed on - the man seems massively burnt out. I remember him saying I think during the press tour of the first spider-man that his mum actually had to step in and say he needs a day off (where were the unions???). and the fact that there was no way of him going to the toilet in some of his costumes or to adequately drink water or eat... they were all joking about it then but god the hindsight couldn't be clearer

I think the Toms first movie ever being Spider-Man a huge blockbuster movie, has its pros and cons. Pros is it’s instant fame but it’s very hard difficult to detach from that character. Because that what you’re known for. I think Daniel and Timmy have it good because they did small movies before, they’ve played side characters, and have dabbled in different roles, so they’re not tied down to a franchise or an image. It’s almost like the Aladin actor, he played a the role of Aladin and his now struggling to get into “ serious” acting because his mainly known as Aladin.

In a way his expected to play a leading role and save the day even in movies that have nothing to do with Spider-Man.

Timothee is a nepo baby and got a lot of breaks that others had to bust their ass to get. If he didn't have all those family connections it's highly unlikely he would have gotten the roles he has. He doesn't have leading man looks. He actually does look like a twink..

I think the best way would be to make a compromise, they can make a movie in style similar to Shattered Dimension videogame where Madame Web contacts 3 Spidermen and each of them will fight a street level Villain in their own dimension, Spidermen dont even have to meet one another

Honestly, yeah I agree with this conclusion. Hot actors doing “cool” rebellious shit on camera is completely different from some dad bod shmuck keeling over and covering the lighter from the wind and coughing out the smoke. We wanna embody cool attractive stuff we see on camera but fail to recognize that we’re not all 10/10 sex symbol actors doing something in front of a camera that can be visually changed to channel more dopamine release to viewers

Its a show about how to cope with stress. And the answer to that is humor. So sure, it is a comedy... In a way. It often doesn't seem that way cause it's humor is understated, lowkey, almost a little to real at times, but it's clearly intended to entertain

It’s not a straight up comedy. It’s a drama comedy, which is it’s own genre. Like Succession. That could easily run under the comedy bracket too at the awards. They are going for a similar thing.

Harry being THAT good that his team loses when he's not there means Oliver Wood and the others are not really good so I refuse to believe it

Got recommended this randomly by YT and I'm actually very glad I clicked, it was an excellent video. For someone that confesses isn't a HP nerd, hasn't read the books, you have a good knowledge of the quidditch side of things at least. As for Harry not becoming pro, you hit the nail on the head with the fact that he just didn't want to. He went on to become an Auror, a government official who investigates and apprehends those using the Dark Arts. Arguably, had Harry not been "the chosen one" and spent all his teen years fighting against evil wizards and witches using dark magic, he may well have become a pro quidditch player. Aside from his friends, playing quidditch was his favourite part of Hogwarts, and there's no doubt he loved the sport - just that becoming an auror took higher priority for him after his experiences. In GoF fake Moody actually suggests to him that he become an auror, which could be what first put the idea in his head. During a careers meeting with McGonagall in OotP Harry states that he wants to become an auror and there's not even a mention of quidditch. I'm not really a sports fan, so it was interesting to hear your POV and especially talking about his "game IQ". You mentioned Ginny catching the snitch but still losing the game, meanwhile Harry holding off to catch it when it would trigger the win - almost the exact same thing happened in the pro leagues too. I don't think the movies go as in depth about the quidditch world cup at the start of GoF, but Krum - apparently the best seeker in the world at that time - caused his team to lose the match for the exact same reason Ginny did. Fred and George actually placed a bet that Krum would catch the snitch but Ireland would win and that's what happened - Ireland won by 10 points because Krum didn't hold out for his team to get an extra 20 points (2 goals).

I think with the tardis cloning they really missed an opportunity because each version of the doctor getting their own prize since they both won makes sense within the toy makers rules. It would have been way better if he had just asked for his own prize when the game concluded rather than having it be a last minute "oh yeah I guess I have a free wish for anything coupon" overall though I really liked the specials.

Several months late but lol I slightly disagree with you. He has Sony/Marvel in his pockets with the success of his spiderman trilogy and Uncharted made way more than double its budget so it was not a flop at all. He can continue doing big budget surefire hits for the money then go for whatever passion project/niche role he wants without worrying about the bankability of those roles. I mean, financially, if he plays his cards right he might never need to work again. Professionally, he seems to be well-loved by just about everyone he works with, known as a nice guy and a professional, and his acting is always praised even in the "bad" movies he's in. People know he has talent, he has the money already, and he seems to be doing well mentally for a young person at his level of fame (no scandals, private life, quit drinking, etc.). I think being primarily remembered as Spiderman is such a great problem to have, given his circumstances.

On the website for The Matthew Perry Foundation, he is quoted saying “When I die, I don't want 'Friends' to be the first thing that's mentioned - I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned. And I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that”. Matthew Perry did a lot outside of just Friends. That being said, on top of his efforts to improves peoples lives, Friends has inadvertently helped a lot of people by being a comfort blanket show that’s still funny today. The link for the Matthew Perry Foundation is in the description.

I can't stand the way movies superficially portray smoking as "the ticket to coolness". Ok, it was understandable back then when tobacco lobbies did their best to make smoking seem "harmless" or "the lesser evil to you health", there was way more naivety... BUT NOW? It's an obsolete trope used to push on people's superficial feelings about the aestheticization and glamourization of such a toxic, stupid and way too widespread addiction. Sometimes I feel like the worst embodiment of this trope, nowadays, is Timothée Chalamet. "OMG He's so unconventionally sexy, so troubled yet cute, the cigarette is the cherry on the sundae!" The only author that doesn't make me hate smoking on the big screen is Wes Anderson, thanks to his unique aesthetics and characterization of his stories. BUT he's an exception. I hate smoking, it's one of the constant remindings of just how people can be stupid and prone to cherry picking and ignoring actual facts when it comes to their own profit.

I think he started his career in a massive franchise and feels pressured to keep the momentum going with big career-defining roles. But it would serve him better to scale down and rebuild his career as a novice. Take supporting roles with good directors, build a relationship with the best in the industry. Like Samuel L Jackson started making small appearances in Tarantino and Scorsese films before playing a key role in Pulp Fiction

Jeremy Allen White is by far the best casting choice for young Willy Wonka. Not only because he looks exactly like a young Gene Wilder but, as anyone that’s seen The Bear will tell you, he can play the obsessive, neurotic, slightly unhinged but ultimately likeable character extremely well.

I haven't watched the trailer for Wonka but the discussion around it, which from my perspective has seemed to be about equal measure of praise and criticism, has me more interested in the movie than I otherwise would be. I was already going to watch it for the sake of Timothee but now there's more edge to it, more at stake. Whatever happens he'll be fine. Also him being the only name on the first poster is kinda crazy. He made it. Hope he lands it cause Wonka and Dune being good would be big for him.

Even if it doesn’t go well I highly doubt it’ll negatively affect his career. If anything it can serve as a learning experience. I have a feeling it’s going to well at the box office. Actually so many people expecting it to be bad might actually be a good thing. Their expectations will low so it’s not totally terrible they’ll be pleasantly surprised.
