Vaseline is a substance which goalkeepers may or may not use to improve their grip of their gloves. Vaseline can be vastly compared to Glove Glu as they both benefit the goalkeepers gloves with an increased grip. So in this video I put the Vaseline to the test to see how it performs. I upload football session and try to improve as a goalkeeper just showing my skill out to the internet.

Hi, so the use of vasaline on gloves should be used during wet conditions not for use in dry conditions. It has zero performance boosting ability in the dry. However in wet weather it really does improve the performance. The reason pros use it regularly is their pitches are heavily watered before and during games. My recommendation would be to run this trial again during heavy rainfall and you will then see the difference.

@OP1GK yea so the science if you can call it that lol behind it is simple. Latex is what provides the grip in goalkeeper gloves. Latex is a porous material so on really wet days the latex gets flooded by water and the grip lessons. By applying a layer of vasaline you create a water resistant barrier which then maintains the latex performance of the gloves. Make sure you wash your gloves thoroughly after though. What you may notice is small rinkle marks in the latex after applying vasaline. This won't actually make any difference to the gloves apart from cosmetically. They will still perform in wet and dry conditions they just won't have that smooth appearance we all like to see what we look at our gloves.

Thank you so much for this tip, I had trouble with the grip of my gloves when it comes to handling and catching the ball mid-air. I am definitely gonna use Vaseline on my GK gloves after watching this video. An excellent KZfaqr for young GKs.

Save I don't think glove glu is worth it because its 15 dollars and Vaseline is like 3 and Vaseline doesn't destroy the latex of the glove but i still think going with normal gloves with just water is the best because you will get used to Vaseline and when you don't have it on you,you can make more mistakes that's my opinion and if someone has something to say please reply on this comment!

I play on a clay pitch. Wouldn't it be a bad idea to put vaseline on it? Won't the soil ruin my gloves? Is there any solution for that?

You're doing it wrong, mate❤️ You need to apply water as well and really rub it into the glove. Vaseline works best im wet surface, fx. rainy days or pre-watered pitches ☺️ try it out

We tried it on my sons cheap gloves and it did seam to work even wothout cleaning the gloves and we only used a very small amount. I can see how it would help the latex to last longer too.
