During pregnancy, a mother’s blood volume can increase by 50% in order to accommodate the developing foetus.
This increase in blood volume might also be the reason why hunger levels change and the mother gets hungrier. Some women experience a sharp increase in their appetite levels as the body needs more calories to cope with the extra blood!
