Thank you Nour! I’ve had trouble with revealing too much about my main and their main world in the beginning of the story (prologue wise) for a long time now and have wondered if revealing so much was a good thing or a bad thing. Your advice really helped out and gave me a few ideas as to how I can make the reader’s piece together the information as the story and the main character progresses. It might actually be a lot more fun than trying to reveal everything at once. I have a bad habit of info dumping in parts of my story with the worry that the reader will not get or understand the story immediately. But now I’m ready to take some risks and be more crafty with the information in my story!

You got this! Most of us do this in our first drafts, so that's okay. Second and third drafts are for reworking these elements. Best of luck! 🙂

Yep, this was my exact problem in my chapter 1. I cut it in half by only giving the minimum info to understand the opening, and moving the other details to later chapters, or just cutting the finer details completely. Now it's a lot less boring!

Can you answer this question? I have been trying to find an answer to this for quite some time. Does my novel have to have story from the beginning to the end. Could it be episodic? Frame of reference could be the tv show Mad Men, there are storylines for each episode (chapter) which begin and end in the chapter while other continue to the next chapters and affect future decisionmaking? Because i have heard that it has to have it, so what is your opinion on that?

Yes, if you're writing a novel, it will need to have a story from beginning to end; it can't be episodic. However, if you plan on writing a book of short stories, you can make each chapter/story episodic. I've seen a book of short stories have different storylines, but by the end, they all tie back to each other (characters are connected somehow, they're from the same town, etc).
