Mini aussies are great! In fact, before we committed to keeping Bentley (he was a foster with us for 5 months), we had decided on a mini Aussie. I know other boat owners who also have them. They’re awesome. But they do limit you when traveling though many people do it.

Beautiful Titian hair, problems with boats are only fixed with a rip out and start again, then you know where you are and go forward. To many owners make bodges that they don't tell you about when selling the boat, even if the think they have done a good repair.

Looks like they spliced an eye on the end of the cable and used that cable clamp to dog it off just to make sure the splice didn't come apart. You probably already know this, but... Duct tape was originally developed in WW2. The Navy used it to seal ammo boxes, and aircraft mechanics used it to patch the fuselage and wings of planes (and they called it 100 mph tape). Same stuff, either way. Love the vid. Slaìnte. 😎☘️

I really need to teach y’all how to splice 9x19 wire rope when you get back. No hang ups in the sheaves like the string did. And how to make a tuck splice eye, not a Flemish eye with a clamp or a wad of tape to hang on everything. More plants to eat the CO2. It’s possible that 3 animals of substantial size, y’all, are breathing out enough to make the alarm sound. Better fresh air circulation is needed, or more plants 😂

You guys are having fun. You mentioned the washdown was not working. I got the idea it was the type where a hose adapter plugs into a deck fitting, Then you twist and lock. It is a good system however they changed the design over the years, the original one had two prongs and all the newer ones have three. The replacements can not be used on the old outlets. The only place I have ever found to get the right adapter is New Found Metals in Port Townsend Washington state. They have info on their website. They are the people who designed the system. Very nice folks. Decent price too. Hope this helps Keep up the good content. John

@TheSirensLog
@TheSirensLog 4 ай бұрын
Well, typically we wouldn’t even leave them open, but we agreed to leave them open because we wanted ventilation down there because our CO alarms were going off frequently so they were open in the name of safety. But no, when you’re on deck, you really can’t see them open unless you bend over and look. And I’m so used to closing everything up before getting underway that with the whole thing happening and rushing to get it off the deck, I totally forgot that we’d done something out of the norm and left them open.

The Co2 is going off from your breathing. You have 2 Adult people and a large dog. I would pretty much bet that you have the alarms located near an area of the boat where the Co2 accumulates and can not easily escape or circulate from air flow. Trying turning on a fan in the boat at a higher level and point it toward the ceiling / deck. That should create enough airflow to keep the alarms from going off. It is totally understandable why the alarm would go off at night in the vberth. That would be the time for a higher levels to occur. Small area, 2 people, and probably a lot of mouth breathing. LOL
@TheSirensLog
@TheSirensLog 4 ай бұрын
Actually one was living next to an open port lite and just feet from an open companionway. And the batteries were totally overheating and were swollen. It was obvious it was the batteries once I convinced him to pull them out of there. Plus once I moved one of the alarms into that cabin, the level was at 911 immediately. It was obvious. We sleep with a lot of airflow in the boat already.

Ok the logic of buying something cheap just to get by I get but in the end it doesn’t make sense. You have to buy the thing twice once cheap once expensive and deal with the cheap on the time putting it in and out. Sinse you’re going to end up with the expensive one just start with that one and do the buying and installing once I feel you’ll do less tail chasing. And it’ll be less expensive overall because your time doing this stuff cost time which your time isn’t cheap. Figure 50 and hour. Keep up the good work you two

White Thang is not fair(25:24), I love your boat, all boats of this type as Colin Archer, Hans Christian… . I have Fisher 30. If I could have a cheap marina place I’d leave the teak deck as a core, lay 3 layers of glass with EPOXY resin and flexiteek over to keep the character of the boat. I willingly subscribe and hope you’ll make more videos
@TheSirensLog
@TheSirensLog 4 ай бұрын
Thank you!! We’d considered FlexiTeek and we got a sample a couple of years ago (in preparation, since we knew we were going to be buying) and I still have mixed emotions about it. It’s still very expensive, though it’s the most realistic thing on the market. I’m pretty traditional in most things, and Im a connoisseur of wood anyway lol. I’d almost rather spend the extra money to just put teak back down, though I’d have to cross an ocean to do that at a price I would be willing to pay. But that’s doable. I’ve patched it up enough that it’s not leaking too bad now, so we can probably get away with letting it ride until we can redo all the rigging, and then when we do pull the deck, there’s still the crazy thought that MAYBE we can reuse this teak (it’s still quite thick for its age) and replace boards where needed and tar them down.

We never blamed the dog. And we did “check” and agreed to leave them open so it wasn’t a case of forgetting to close them. And we didn’t blame the dog or punish him. It was me who forgot that we’d agreed to leave them open because it had been a couple hours and we’d had that situation and I wanted to get it off the deck before it slid into the V berth or baked into the already dried out teak.

Then flush the tank again until clear. In hot climates will need to do this more often. A little Clorox bleach unscented can be added to water tank also, you will need a filter that can separates that out. Get a Berky container with filter for Drinking water. Is there some one in the marina running their engine or are you running your engine. About the only thing that would cause those alarms to go off are smoke or exhaust fumes from something. Some Icy-Hot stuff that my wife was using caused ours CO alarm in our RV to go off one day, so maybe it's something like that. So sorry about the Bentley situation, it sounds like a real drag. Hopefully thing will get better. Keep the good stuff coming.

Hi u 2, as a mechanic, I'm cringing watching u use a (shifter) adjustable wrench, please try to use the correct tool, those wrenches are all sorts of bad. Just a tip, buy quality parts straight up not cheap, you'll just be replacing stuff much quicker and costing more in the long run, great content, loving it, bit by bit you'll get there😁👍🌊 we feed our dogs quality dry food, gives them firm stools, wet food = shit everywhere😲😲😲😲

I never go out without shutting ports and hatches because inevitably something bad, always seemed to happen. A spilled can of Coke near a hatch can cause absolute mayhem.

I think you guys should've offered 15k instead of 30k for this boat. There seems to be so much and such big problems with it.
@TheSirensLog
@TheSirensLog 4 ай бұрын
The listing price was $50k, and the owner became aware of the chain plates needing to be replaced after another couple surveyed the boat just before we came to see it. At that point, the owner know he was going to have to take significantly less. $30k was just below what he was really willing to take. However there is a LOT of stuff on this boat that adds up to more than $30 before even considering the hull.

I agree with you, which is why Bentley was always a foster. It wasn’t until HE fell in love with boat life that we started to reconsider keeping him. We’ve only decided to keep him as a permanent home in the last couple of weeks but that was never the plan. I’ve never seen this dog so happy. He has continuous access to the outdoors and he goes to shore to pee and walk. He LOVES the tender and there are a lot of boat owners with big dogs. It’s not something I wanted to do, but honestly he’s at home here now.

Once you get far enough off shore you could not survive the swim , gentle push the dog and the trashy bearded guy over board. It will hurt a bit for a few days and you should not film it or talk about it but it’s for the best iam afraid. After that thing ms should become much easier.

Trying? How could we try to be like other people? lol Just to be clear, “The Siren’s Log” started in 2012 as a website and I’ve been a content creator working with companies for 18 years so technically we were on the scene WAY WAY before GBU, just on other platforms besides KZfaq. I also bought my first sailboat in 2009, long before they did, and planned to buy my future larger sailboat ever since. This has always been the plan, and honestly, when we decided to KZfaq because Instagram was fizzling, I didn’t even know there was such a thing as “sailing channels”, and frankly I still don’t watch them, and don’t care. I’m way too busy in my own life to be watching others.
