We had to spay a dog after their owners bred her too early and she ended up losing the puppies inside her and nearly dying from an extreme infection.. They dumped her at a shelter within the week because she was "useless to them now". Some humans are just stains on this world

I used to work for veterinarians (two different practices at two different times) and both places intentionally charged less for C-sections with spaying to encourage people not to put an animal that had had a hard time through another pregnancy. Also, they said it was easier and faster, and thus safer, than trying to sew everything back together if she had a lot of damage.

I was never worried about them passing while I was at the hospital, but I worried about the domino effect being that we had 7 related cats. 1 mama and 3 babies we kept from each of her 2 litters. Up until the last 2 sets of litter mates, all the siblings passed pretty far apart. The last two sets died very closely, though. The last set passed during Covid lockdown, only 3 weeks apart, at just over 17. The mother, surprisingly, outlasted all her kids and had to be euthanized because her quality of life wasn’t great. She was fully blind, going deaf and was incontinent. We had her put down a few months back and she was 20. She was the last cat and we have no plans to own any more. We now have 3 dogs and my mil, who kept 4 of the 6 cats, now has 3 dogs as well. Both my husband and mil are cat people and their hearts just can’t open up to bond with any cats right now. My husband won’t even meet friends new kittens or go see the kittens up for adoption at the local PetSmart.

@@cindylively9544 if the cat is not in pain and enjoys life, there is no reason to put it down. Some cats are healthier at 20 than others at 15. It's on an individual case basis. One of my Nana's dogs was put down at 13 because of back problems but the other was eventually put down at 18 because his Cushing's was no longer manageable and was affecting his quality of life because it became painful. If he was put down earlier because of the ability of Cushing's to hurt him, he would've missed out on many enjoyable years. I had a similar kitty and wounding to the Scottish Fold. I could not afford the full care. I grew up a farm girl and was used to caring for animals. I convinced the veterinarian that I could do all the follow up care. So the operation, clean wound, drain installed and suturing. Medication. Me taking notes on care and what to watch for. Follow up in three weeks. He didn’t like his collar. I slept with him on the floor. If they can’t clean themselves, cats turn into stinky greasy messes. I groomed him with damp cotton balls to simulate tongue cleaning. I fed him his medications. Fed him on demand. Kept his wound clean. He acted like a tiny kitten in some ways. Trust. I had his trust. On a clean towel in my lotus lap on the floor, I removed the drain on schedule. A few days later, similar set up, him purring in my lap, I softened the stitches, cut, and snitched each stitch. He didn’t even break purr. A week later he seen the veterinarian for the final follow up. He healed fine. The veterinarian was happy. I had dedicated myself to giving the care I couldn’t afford the veterinarian and clinic to do. I’m grateful that the veterinarian was willing to work with me. My 11 year old cat, came through and spent another eight years purring his heart out. Thanks for letting me share. The kitty mom of rescue Scottish Fold has a heart of gold. I understand what she went through, and may the two spend a few more happy decades together.

This bulldog is a perfect example why breeds like this need to be eradicated. This poor animal was bread with a tail that's unfit for purpose, and the irresponsible owner let it become overweight as well, making her condition even worse and her treatment more difficult. I'm sure Scott is having some thoughts here that he is not sharing... When the owner said at the end that she's hoping for "no more trips to the vet", which she had had to do regularly, I'm just eye-rolling. Shouldn't have picked a grotesque breed like that, then! Honestly, If you’ve never dealt with 2 cats fighting or a cat being attacked by a dog, I would not blame you for not knowing how to do a more careful search. She also has 2 short haired dogs. Even short haired cats hide injuries with their fur a lot more than most dog fur. If you have huskies, Australian Shepherd and other medium to long haired breeds, searching under the fur just comes more intuitively with other animals. Cats also are in a unique position of being both predators and prey, so unlike dogs, cats will not openly show that they are unwell. They will hide any signs of illness and pain until it becomes too much to hide. This comes from a survival instinct found in all prey species; Predators will always single out and target weak animals first. Sometimes it’s hard to notice when our cats, and especially pet rodents and reptiles for that matter, are sick because they don’t start to act sick until they are really sick.

I really do hope the vet informed the bulldog owner that she really should be a lot lighter and fitter. Having a dog breed already prone to being overweight and allowing them to become very overweight is cruel in itself, it lowers their life quality and expectant life span and also creates unnecessary complications due to that excess weight. People assume overweight animals are spoilt, no they are abused! Loving your animals means keeping them healthy and being fit is a huge part of being healthy. If you cannot see even a hint of your dogs ribs you’re over feeding them, so stop now.
@Meskarune
@Meskarune Жыл бұрын
If the dog had a pregnancy and then was spayed that could explain the weight gain. Its also hard to get bulldogs to do a lo to exercise so they would need guidance on what diet to give and how to measure the food. Female dogs are also prone to being over weight in general. You are making huge assumptions about this person's dog which is ridiculous.
@GlitterGlamGal
@GlitterGlamGal Жыл бұрын
@Meskarune I think you’re getting a bit over excited about what I’ve said. My statement was simply that I hoped the vet informed the owner that she was overweight and that it’s not healthy for her to be that way. If you have purchased a dog breed that has specific needs and care then you have the responsibility to make sure you educate yourself on this, and look after the dog in a way which caters to this particular dog breed. As far as females being desexed and putting on weight, yes they can do, but again if you adjust their lifestyle to accommodate this then this issue can be avoided. My 8 yr old Staffordshire bull terrier girl was speyed at 2 and is in great shape, I realise that she wouldn’t be so fit though being a desexed female if I didn’t make her health a priority. Also there are plenty of bulldogs that are fit, the idea that it’s so hard to keep them in shape is really just a matter of education and dedication. I make no apologies for speaking the truth as far as overweight dogs being abused, excuses are easy to make, owing an animal responsibly is not unreasonable. The privilege of animal ownership is not a right, it’s a life that must be treated with respect, care and knowledge. I don’t shame people, I attempt to educate them on the few things I have some ability to do.

@@Meskarune The fact that the owner has allowed her to have puppies a puppy already shows she’s irresponsible. I don’t think there’s a lot of assumptions being made here that aren’t from you

@@vernell2601 It’s absolutely ridiculous isn’t it? How these people, either deliberately or by negligence, can think its perfectly fine to allow their puppy to get pregnant is beyond me. Once again it all comes down to being educated, responsible and diligent. Those that allow their puppies to have puppies deliberately are just ignorant, usually arrogant and really just irresponsible when it comes down to it.

Every story brought tears to my eyes at some point. I've recently nominated a vet for this show. Straight off, I like Rob. Just how he leaned into her as she fell asleep, telling her it's okay...yeah, that itself told me what I need to know about Dr. Rob and his connection to his patients. And it's positive. The fact that he puts himself on a time limit for a C section is applauded. I like Rob. Scott, of course, has impressed me for the millionth time. Not all vets would do something like that. I've had a vet who wouldn't remove a cat's eye that needed it...he said he didn't feel he could do it well enough, honestly. He sent me to an only cats vet...so respect for that. He understood when I switched to the other guy eventually. He cared to send me where since I only had cats, would be better able to know all cat issues instead of a general practice. So America does have some vets who are in it for the animals and people, not only for the money and retire thing. I love Kate more each episode. It feels she is more comfortable being filmed now, and more at ease. Doesn't seem like she notices the cameras at times, which is good. Talking to the animals is always a huge plus, for me, concerning a vet I'm seeing. If they never really talk TO my buddy, and only talk to me, I'm already watching them closely by then, and wondering what other vets are nearby. It just feels to me, that a doctor should address their patients as well as the patient's family or care giver...you know? And fact is, the human is the family/care giver...not the patient. The animal is the actual patient. THAT in a vet tells me volumes. I love Bondi Rescue as well. Truth be told, I've always wanted to visit Australia, since I was young and first saw Crocodile Hunter. Steve really made me see how unique and gorgeous it is in both flora and fauna...both on land and in the oceans.

I'm in no way surprised Cali is overweight with such a medical condition. Once she heals she'll be able to walk without such pain. @Maj KoiVula @@Xaydir @Little Wolf Taima You are all correct! Consider that English Bulldogs often have to have AI to get pregnant (which IMHO makes breeding a deformed dog completely unprofessional, at best) and almost always have to have C-Sections in order to welp puppies. That makes it an unnatural breed that is not sustainable. Add the facial deformities and she can barely breathe. Let's also chop off 90+% of her tail. I feel so sorry for this poor bulldog. She looks so lovable but, we have got to stop being sentimental and just stop breeding these beautiful man-made abominations of nature. Yes my words are harsh. Those beautiful bulldogs, and certain other breeds, suffer through life because of our vanity. STOP BREEDING ANIMALS THAT as a breed, CAN NOT BREED WITHOUT SURGERY!

I wish I could enter my vet in your contest.He has been my vet for almost 50 years, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He recently retired, sold his practice to a young vet. He has had some serious health issues recently. And had to have limb joint replacements, heart surgery and is losing his vision & memory. Dementia is the worse thing for him. He is so smart, and was thee #1 horse vet for 3 states and part of Canada. He was always training & experimenting on ways to make a bad situation good. He's had several broken bones over the years. And I think he was lucky enough not to have been gored by the bulls he's taken care of. I had one horse that would only let him care for her. If another tried she would do her best to bite or paw or kick at them to get rid of the vets she didn't like. She would even play with my vet who we called "Doc" with his money & bill for services that day. She would try to reach over Doc's shoulder and steal the money back from his shirt pocket. She always gave him a nuzzle and hug. If you could do an "honorary" dedication for him and his love to animals please let me know. I could send my personal contact info to arrange it.
