Let's look at the burning process first. When the tomato seedling is first planted in the soil, life water is given well. A handful of soil is drawn to the place you plant so that it does not lose moisture. You water the hole where you opened the seedling, you plant the seedling when the water draws out, and you water it again when you cover the soil. Apart from this, water is not given for the first 10 days. 2 to 3 days after planting, the tomatoes are followed and the ones that do not take are replaced. This process is called burning, as the name suggests, burning the tomato into the water is done. The point here is that tomatoes are a lazy plant when it comes to finding juice. Whatever level it finds the water, it throws the fringe roots there. Not giving water for the first 10 days aims to put the pile root deeper and establish a more solid root system. At the end of 10 days, the process is finished and normal irrigation is started.
Before we move on to the topic of irrigation, let us first state that it is not correct to say that tomatoes do not like water. Water is vital for all living things, there cannot be a living thing that does not love water.
Let's say that the one who gave that advice says to water your tomatoes in a place with a maximum summer temperature of 30-32 degrees and water your tomatoes until they set fruit.
There is a very different climate scale in Turkey, each region has its own changes and vegetable care is determined according to these changes. Irrigation is among them.
It is your choice to burn the tomatoes for the first 10 days, but after about 15 days a hoeing and throat filling is required. An additional anchor will then be required after 25 30 days. Hoeing does not lose soil moisture, on the contrary, it preserves moisture. Do not ignore the hoeing process with the heavy cultivation of the soil. If you do 3 or 4 hoes during the season, you may have a chance to reduce watering.
Do not irrigate close to harvest, you will reduce the quality. Make sure to water after harvest, it is necessary for new tomatoes.
Do not over water, you increase soil-borne diseases. Do not water at night, plants cannot absorb water at night. Do not irrigate after 10 am, it cannot absorb water actively just like at night.
The information that no irrigation is done until the first fruits are not correct, in fact, it should not be over-watered. The information that no irrigation is done when it blooms is not true, on the contrary, if the humidity is insufficient, the yield decreases. The information that it is not watered until the first fruits are seen is also not correct, this period may take about 50 days. It is a big mistake not to irrigate during this period.
