No, they were massacred in hundreds by a bunch of khornate CSM in the underground tunnel battle and retreated in fear. If the berserkers had not subsequently been busy with the war on the surface, then all the operations of the Kriegs underground would have ended in exactly the same way.

@@user-ix6pc5gd7o From what I skimmed over yeah those Khornate berserkers are fucking hard to deal with underground, that and they were only able to work with like, a few hundred soldiers underground they were basically forced to fight in a blender until they fell back sealed the tunnels and filled it super corrosive shit, then focused on their actual objective. I wouldn't say they retreated in fear tho, they were still ballsy enough to make sure the berserkers couldn't get deeper into their tunnels.

I read through the Siege of Vraks, and I genuinely do not understand why people like Kriegers. If I want a regiment of dudes that want to atone for past shit, I´ll take Vostroyans any day of the week.

@@katamariroller2837it’s not specifically about atonement but also the stupidity of their bravery. If you were fighting necrons and saw a fellow soldier get absolutely particlized, you would shoot your pants. But Krieg, did not run and that’s how they beet them. They also made orks retreat which is pretty challenging.

​@@katamariroller2837what makes them enjoyable is that they're hyper competent fatalistic suicidal troopers, they mix the badass ww1 german stormtrooper with the ww2 Soviet life is cheap mentality, all mixed with the religious zeal of templars, the gasmask aesthetic and the french trenchcoat, they're basically "ww1 the faction" and most people into 40k also like history. What makes them actually work from a narrative perspective is the lack of hesitation, many many readers don't like hesitation in stories, even those of us who know it's purpose in a story find it quite bothersome in stuff like 40k which isn't meant to be realistic, no hesitation means nonstop action which works especially well for the 40k fandom. Also you probably don't like em as much as you could because you may have been led to believe that all regiments are thrown into wood chippers to deal with problems, but in reality most regiments will use plasma weapons and heavy bolters to deal with space marines, like sane humans, and from that perspective the kriegers just piling on until they somehow tear apart the demigod superhuman blessed by satan is far more charming and unique.

@@katamariroller2837 I also never understood why people like the Kriegers, but then I read the book Krieg by Steve Lyons and completely changed my mind about them. They are now one of my favourites. I like Catachans more, but Kriegers are awesome too. So maybe give it a read and you will see.

Well the guy with the pile of grenades almost got him. Might have broken the horn on his helmet with that much boom. Maybe even wrecked his pauldron! Something he'd never recover from. 100% a victory if that happened. I mean would have still not killed him but it would have slain his pride! And that's something an Space Marine can't recover from or so they say. Well, considering infamous case of the 158th regiment on Vraks, when the kriegers were turned to flee by the Berzerkers so hard, that they attacked their own commissars... (Imperial Armour Vol. 5) DKoK is tough, yes. But they're still human, and subject to fear and panic. Even though their threshold is higher than the average soldier.

@@AbyssWatcher745 Every Guardsman can be a competent soldier until his mental strength is exhausted. In that attack, the Kriegs turned into a panicked, disorderly flight and shot their commissars who were trying to restore order.

I dont know... but their being so few... and most blending in with their fellows of Khorne, I can see why they aren't mentioned, but on that day.... After weeks of mining, panning and plenty of demolition... when we breached that bunker, it was going well, the heritics did have some traps and heavy weapons emplacements, but that was exspected, and all they did was stall us for a few seconds.... Elisa, our... watchmaster... We were clearing designated sector 3-a when we heard shots... and a single chain axe... We set up, 4 in the front, 5 in the back, melta and flamer in the middle... it was when we finished did the last gun fall silent, in the dark, we were at a severe disadvantage, so, Diane let loose a burst of flame, and we saw it... I could only watch while it looked me dead in the eyes like it knew who she was to me... while he slowly drained her life... then snapped her neck, and threw her on the ground like trash, I started looking for my bundle, for i had lost it in the blast, i noticed it to my left, it didn't, i lunged, it lunged as well, i grabbed the bundle and primmed it... then all i felt was weightlessness... was moving... i hit a wall, i tried to move, but couldn't feel my left arm, i looked down, and saw it was missing, I looked to the, beast and saw it laughing, holding my arm... It not noticing the primmed bundle of genades, then a flash of light... and darkness... It was a 2 dys later when i awoke, a new arm already attached, mechanical of course, apparently another squad had been 3 minutes away, feeling the blast not exspecting to find a survivor, instead, they found me... Yeah, about that. World Eaters aren't in it for the "fun," or to see the pain and fear in their enemies' eyes. That's more of an Emperor's Children thing. Khorne cares not from where the blood flows.

Bezerkers aren't known for sadism. They actually prefer the fastest, bloodiest, and often more boring kill methods. Boring as they are they could probably do the same murder stroke for days untill it stops working. When it stops making the heads roll and the blood flow then they move to the next strategy.
