Ange is loved by Aussies because he is the epitome of the Aussie spirit. He got grilled in front of the world in this interview and instead of giving up, he dug his heels in and he backed himself and he came back and shut Foster and the rest of the mob up with success in the a-league, Asia cup and Japan. Go ange, go get em son!

This aged well, lol. Ange goes from strength to strength. Tells the truth even if people don’t want to hear it.

I watched this live, early morning with a filthy hangover and it was both surreal and brutally honest. Still one of the best interviews on Australian television.

His uncompromising style has went down a treat at Celtic. Fans adore him. Won the league and cup in his first season, rebuilt an entire squad from scratch.

As a Spurs fan, I am astonished that the club has appointed Ange, when they clearly should have given the job to Craig Foster. Seriously, loving this guy and can't wait to see him at the Lane. I just pray he gets the time needed to do his thing. COYS.

Impressive the way Ange Postecoglou stood his ground, didn't lose his composure, and summarised the situation to end with. This despite misrepresentations, persistent aggressive interruptions and demands that he resign from the studio pundit -- who's high opinion of himself and brittle composure was evident here. I think he'll handle the football press in England if he comes to Spurs. I hope he will.

As a Spurs fan and a new Ange fan I'm loving this interview. He composes himself so well. I hope Craig Foster looks at what Ange has achieved since this interview and eats a large amount of humble pie! - Excited to have Ange at The Lane and watch him work his magic. Last thing, what's going on with that pronunciation of Laos?... Hilarious!

I love how Ange has now re-assured everyone he is the best coach in this country and Foz is still on SBS talking rubbish.

Ange was correct in pointing out the systemic issues in developing youth football where the players are lacking the quality, which had he been listened are only now trying to be addressed and confirmed by Mark Viduka and others now. Frankly, it wasn’t about the coaching but the player development and quality of those players. It’s systemic and it’s incorrect to blame the coach when the development isn’t there. ten years ago Ange knew that but the commentators can only see in front of their noses.

I remember watching this live and feeling sorry for Ang. He is trying to tell them that the domestic system is not geared to producing good teams. They are twisting it to accuse him of blaming the players, which he clearly didn't do. Very disingenuous of Foster and to a lesser degree Les Murray. They could have steered the discussion into "what changes should we make to stop this failure happening again?" Oh did I mention Ang's CELTIC are the champions? COYBIG!!

Ange went on to win 11 Club trophies with 4 different clubs. He also won the AFC Asian Cup with Australia, and AFF U19 Championship. He also won the Australian and A League manager of the year; the Asian manager of the year, Australian manager of the decade, not to mention 2 Scottish manager of the year and 2 Scottish Football Writers Association manager of the year awards. Craig continues his hard hitting journalistic approach to this day. But seldom at SBS anymore.

To any Celtic fans watching this, this is ancient history in Australia. The interviewer Foster was a mediocre player at best in his day. Foster is one of those types that take the easy road and go into the media. He talks a big game like he’s some sort of oracle of the sport but he’s never had the actual gonads to go into coaching.

Congratulations on your first Scottish premiership, Ange. The first of many. He can take full responsibility for turning our club around in such a short space of time. Absolute hero

The sad part is that in Australia we don’t see any shows like this around football. I wish we could see more live debates like this because there are definitely some involved in the hierarchy of football who could not hold themselves like Ange did here.

Big Ange is a true Aussie; from the dry wit and sarcasm, to the no nonsense attitude, to the never give up mentality.

Ahhh Craig Foster, "are you going to resign?"

I think in retrospect, Ange has a very fair point. Football in Australia has come a long way since this interview was taped, what I think Ange is trying to say is that (back then) when you have to play a country like China or Korea which had domestic leagues of a much higher quality than Australia's was, you have to expect that we're going to struggle when they're used to being able to push themselves in a competitive environment that we lacked. It's not blaming the players, it's just a fact.

Watching this in 2023.. this guy is phenomenal. So happy he’s in the Premier League, and I’m not even a Spurs fan

This is why Ange is coaching in the EPL. He believed in himself and didn’t listen to the likes of Craig Foster to quit.

Both Ange and Foster have buried the hatchet after 15 years (source: Stan Sport FC). Unbelievable that they both made up now but this interview will forever be iconic in Australian football history.

Craig Foster is a numpty. Never liked him. Poor sports commentator. Often shows his bias.

Used to love this show. The 6 hour coverage of football on Sunday 12-6pm and MOTD/PL highlights show on Monday night were pretty much all we had... Ange held his ground and defended himself well. The issue with youth level results is that because the players are always transitioning into and out of the squads, the greater determinant of success as these levels is out of the coaches hands. It is dependent on grassroots football and the emerging talent in that country. Once this is in place, it is more the structural aspects of teams and football institutions to develop these talents and recruit those the age ranges (12-21) that may have initially missed out or been following other interests and suddenly display the ability to play professional football. Then, once this is all in place (see places like England, Spain, Brazil etc.), can a coach really have some impact on results and outcomes (except for the truly exceptional coaches). I think this was the underlying argument that Ange/Foz were having here but had a slightly different position on this, though they did have the same underlying view. In any case, Ange never stood out as truly exceptional (top division quality yes) but many will finally see more of his ability this year and in the EPL. What worked against him in the video above here, worked in his favour at Celtic, i.e. their success is less dependent on their coach and more on all the structures and processes in that neck of UK, at least domestically (generally speaking, compared for similar positions in say EPL, La Liga, Serie A).

this is absolutely hilarious because Ange was right... we still don't have quality at any level.. even the world cup results are more about the Aussie spirit than actually the quality of football.. for gods sake there is no youth system in this country or competition.. you can't compete with kids who train 5 times a week, twice a day and most of them play in professional leagues

Ange is brilliant manager Celtic fans adore him he’s taken a team that was a basket case and now he’s got the team on the road to success . He’s great coach .

Go Ange! You changed the A-League, you improved the way the Socceroos played and you are a serial league winner. I am excited to see what you do with Spurs. I watched this interview live, thought he nailed it, and his point is still as true today as it was back then, but it's not an easy one to solve, mainly because there is little funding for the development of talent in Australia, and our whole dev & money system is upside down. We continue to struggle in Asia and will until this is resolved.

When I watched this live I thought Fozz won, but now, the proof is in the pudding. Ange told us so. In fact, they were both right, we weren't good enough for Asia. Maybe still aren't, but we are developing our youngsters more and more. And Ange can hold his head very high with his coaching record.

Foz recently interviewed Ange again when he was back in Sydney. They are on friendly terms these days. Foz also backed Ange-ball when he was coaching the Soceroos, and was critical of the tactics employed by Bert van Marwijk at the World Cup after he succeeded Ange.

Fast forward to 2023, Ange has been named manager of Tottenham Hotspur

Ange should have walked out when it became apparent Foster hadn't done his research.

Won trophies in Australia. Back to back world cup qualifications. Gold cup winners. Won trophies in Japan. Has won the league cup with Celtic, beaten Rangers for the first time since the end of 2019 and sits top of the league after a massive rebuild with a team who finished 25 points off 1st last season and won zero trophies (didn't even manage to get to a final). He's doing a phenomenal job and believed in himself along the entire way.

Ange got his back up a little too much at the beginning, but Craig then telling him to resign and being a total smartass was uncalled for and very disrespectful. Clearly, they must have had a fair bit of negative history well before this interview. Great to watch nonetheless 🙂

Ange won The Firm this week and has grown so much since this interview. Can't say the same for football in Australia.

Most genuine Scottish football fans including Rangers fans are saying Ange has been a breath of fresh air for Scottish football, the style of football he has brought to Celtic is not only highly entertaining to watch but it’s also highly productive as Celtic now sit six points ahead of second place Rangers who also have had a great run this season in European football. My mate used to play with Craig Foster years ago for Adelaide city junior team or reserves and he always mentions how Foster gave him a headbutt after a tackle haha

A few set backs made Ange the great coach he is today. Foster continued talking rubbish as he still is doing today. Great to see Ange keeping his cool while Foster has a mental breakdown being frustrated of not achieving anything in his own professional career.

Foster only wanted Ange to announce his resignation in this interview based on his interrogation. He was not inerested in listening to Ange in any way. Thankfully, Foster was simply exposed as a complete `pratt`.

WOW!!! Can we get Craig Foster to interview him now?

After this interview Ange's life was seriously negatively affected, both in a professional and personal sense. He was really concerned that it would define him and his career and he hit rock bottom. However, despite Foster's inappropriate treatment of Ange, he pulled himself up by his bootstrings, came back even stronger and like the true gentleman that he is, was willing and able to move forward and reconcile with Foster, no hard feelings. And this is what we love about Ange, who not only shows us that we can pick our lives up when faced with injustice and adversity, but that it is better to make amends with others instead of holding grudges and hatred. So not only a superb mananger but a brilliant human being and role model!

How far our football pundits have fallen since the les Murray and Johnny Warren era is remarkable, we are missing this kind of presenting in this era.

Ange is probably the best Australia has, Craig's expectations of australian football is hyper unrealistic, it's all about baby steps. Ange bailed after he qualified and is in a nice comfy job in Japan. Good on ya ange

I'm probably one of the few people here that has time for Craig Foster but Ange Postecoglou has bounced back since then. His success with Brisbane and getting the Socceroos job has proved that. You can also take into account that most of the players Ange coached in the Australian U-20 have not become stars. How many of these players are stars in Europe's big leagues? Originally I didn't think that Ange had done a good job with those players but in retrospect, it seems that he didn't have a great generation of players to work with anyway.
