Right? What would the point be? Even if they said, "We both give Debbie Does Dallas two enthusiastic thumbs up!," would they expect people to flock to the porn theater?

I loved the "Dogs of the Week" segment as they aired, and used it as a guideline for movies that I wanted to watch. Bit of irony too involving those first two choices - "Up in Smoke" (which was a HUGE hit and launched a film franchise) and "Piranha", which likewise was a big hit and is acknowledged now as a cult-classic that even managed to be remade twice in the decades since.

7:25 "These films are even worse than 'The Warriors.'" It's amazing how so many critics, including these two esteemed ones, came down hard on The Warriors when released, and couldn't see the incredible genius behind it. As time when on, so many critics re-evaluated the movie, including Ebert, who changed his original take to something much more favorable.

'The Warriors' is fantastic! In fact, they get a lot of things wrong. Do they not no that 'Piranha' is a spoof? 'Up in Smoke' is one of the funniest movies ever made...man. 'The Stranger and the Gunfighter' is a fun action-packed flick. 'Kung Fu Master' is tongue-in-cheek fun. Not great, but an OK martial arts comedy. I do agree with 'Debbie Does Dallas'. Even pornos can be overrated.

"Piranha" was an early Joe Dante movie, it's supposed to be campy.. "Up in Smoke" was hated by a lot of critics, but it was a surprise hit, since lots of stoner kids like liked this kind of stuff. Never heard of "The Bod Squad", but I'm wondering if Gene ever saw the bizarre Japanese action movie "Sex and Fury" which features a nude swordfight. "Dracula and His Vampire Bride" was typical UHF fodder, but what about "The Satanic Rites of Dracula"? "Slithis" I've heard of, but never seen. "The Devil's Rain" is one of the goofiest horror movies of the 70's, but Gene failed to mention that William Shatner was in it too. "Dogs" looks pretty bad, maybe even worse than "Grizzly", which rip off "Jaws" scene by scene. "Message From Space" is probably the most enjoyable film in this video. Did you know it was directed by Kinji Fukasaku, who would later make "Battle Royale"? I remember "Beyond and Back" and "The Late Great Planet Earth" got advertised on TV a lot, that was Sun Classics strategy. Orson Wells would narrate another End of the World documentary titled "The Man who Saw Tomorrow" which was about Nostradamus. "Secrets" sounds like Cinemax fodder. "The Gunfighter", well there where some strange hybrids in the Italian western movies. "Debbie Does Dallas" was one of those movies people saw just for the title. "Wonder Women", well thats a rip off name for you.

I saw Beyond and Back in the theater in Cleveland as a little kid. Really freaked me out. Then I watched it on youtube a couple months ago and it's hilariously bad. Siskel and Ebert rightfully crucified that crapfest.

Does anybody know the name of the martial arts movie that features a guy getting impaled by a spear, pulling it out and continuing to fight? It was a Dog of the Week in the early 80s. Can't remember if it was Siskel or Ebert who picked it (I think it was Ebert). In his review, he talked about an audience member who said "If that guy pulls out that spear and keeps fighting, I'm out of here." The guy left.

I actually like both “Piranha” and “Up in Smoke.” “Piranha” is really more of a comedy as Joe Dante intended it to be very humorous. The Cheech and Chong film is very funny. Yes, ridiculous, but very funny as well. I’ll agree the other films do look terrible and I’ve seen at least 2-3 of them.

I'm wondering if Gene saw Debbie Does Dallas at a Drive-In. I can always remember growing up whenever I was looking for movie times and locations in the local paper, at least one of the Drive-Ins that had switched to adult films was always advertising Debbie Does Dallas well into the 80s. Then when we wnt on vacation to upstate New York or Florida or New England and I looked to see what was playing--same thing. I swear that movie kept some theaters alive for years.
