About the challenges, you need a stone axe to gather short iron pipes. Best solution is smash a few toilets in poi's. Some of the challenges are odd with the collection methods.

to add to this, sometimes they ask to collect a resource from a specific source without mentioning the source, for example collecting pipes from toilets counts for that challenge, but from the pipes laying around on construction sites or from sinks won't count for whatever reason

Collecting steel ingots is like this too. As far as I can see you can only harvest it for the quest with a wrench from a broken vending machine. It's super annoying.

They are aware and are going to update the descriptions to specify what exactly is expected for each one. Honestly just think they should get rid of the specific tool requirements and just focus on the resource. But I assume the point is to show new players what tools do what.

You can track the challenges to have them show you what to collect from and what to use. I know a lot of people don't like the yellow harvest icons that pop up because they're immersion breaking but they do help in place of better explanations. I do like that you can track the harvest honey from stumps quest to have it tell you where all the stumps in an area are.

Yer it's really annoying that you need to use specific tools as I'm doing agility build and got a hunting knife day 2, still had to rock a bone knife just for harvesting, should be any knife, not just bone. Love the idea but the execution is very funpimps 😂

Just a heads up if you didn't know. Woodle you said you didn't want to have to do the traders in a specific order and I found out you don't. You can do the tiers for any trader, they carry over to all traders now. But you will only get opening trade quests in the order laid out in the challenge tab. Rekt to Jen, Jen to Bob and so forth. The so to get one to Bob it has to be from Jen but you don't have to do the whole tier or any of it for that matter, just grab the opening trade route quest from the next in the line. Hope that help cause it confused me in my world as i don't have a trader Bob at all.

I do hope they revamp the challenges, i haven't played yet myself but lots of people i been seeing are complaining about various challenges not working at all except for very specific niche things, like for example the one to harvest steel ingots only works from vending machines, not street lamps or anything else, and the one for salvaging mechanical gears, majority of things providing gears don't count including shopping carts which is listed as one of items you can get them from in the challenge itself, it's absurd. it ruins the challenges, it should just let you do them naturally and getting specific items from any source, not specifically forcing you to pay close attention to challenge and specifically hunt every possible source until you find that 1 thing that applies, or where it only counts if you use a bone knife, not any other kind of knife, that's absurd. I am sure modders will fix it but come on fun pimps, use common sense. I can only hope this is something they are actively working on and aware of to have fixed before stable release. I am all for difficult challenges too, just not ones that make no sense and waste your time in frustration.

Hey Josh! I figured out the ladder-jumping issue -> it's been changed so that if you're still touching the space bar when you touch the ladder, it just auto-drops you from the ladder. Don't really notice it on non-jump ladders, cuz you just go right up. But if you have to jump to a 2-high ladder, you gotta release the space bar before you contact the 'ladder space'. you do jump higher if you hold down the space bar though. So it requires a smidgeon of timing to catch the ladder.

TFP seem to be moving the game towards slower progression, where you have to earn every inch. Which continues to lend credence to my theory that they won't be happy until the only horde night strategy is to stand in a field and get mauled over and over.

That's quite the leap. TFP are very much on favor of horde bases and built the game specifically to take advantage of that. There's also nothing wrong with slower progression. I'd say the biggest change this release was the progress you'd make with traders. They were way too OP before. Seems so much more balanced now.

A lot of little cracks are starting to show with regards to how 1.0 plays, now that the community can do the testing. A few examples include challenges quests being too exacting or not working, temperature seemingly lost in the removal of clothing (also making cooling/warm mods useless), the lack of Randomness with traders assigned to biomes, and trader quest progression not working if you do not return to the last trader you opened. Also group plays seems to really be impacted by the fact missions in groups do not count towards each player, in terms of trader progression.

found a glitch with graves..if there is grass you dont have to dig you can loot the casket just looking at the grass clump and the loot option comes up cheers mate!!!

IzPreBult has been harping on the fact the Challenges have been coded to only proc when done with X took on Y harvestable, and even then the count has been off by 1 or 2 from what he was able to gather. The harvest Steel Bars is especially annoying because it HAS to be Vendos and (so far) Vendos only. Leather has to be from Dinner Booths THE NEW dinner booth model not any leather sofa. I hope that if fixed when its out of experimental and I can play

4:56 so according to the fun pimps “roadmap” a storm is brewing that means a new weather update and overhaul. I’m willing to bet we get armor changes with weather update. Maybe like heavy stuff makes you sweat more in the desert or something similar with the light or medium not being enough for the winter biome. Idk. Just guessing like everyone else. But a weather update is coming. 💜

I love it when Woodle comes to seemingly final conclusions regarding a feature of the game based off one experience, i.e. the frequency of loot bag drops in wandering hordes. The game is still based on RNG, Joshy boy. That drop rate hasn't changed, but the increased rate does not mean you'll experience a guaranteed drop with every horde.

"I need to build a Horde Base" immediately goes raiding. Also with the challenges you can track them so they will show up like the "starter quests" Handy for finding wild tree stumps for the Honey challenge, and they have to be wild stumps POI stumps don't count. Also, harvest goo piles with the bone knife you have a quest for that too. Edit: see you the rotten flesh one with that's what happens when I post at the beginning of the episode.

You've got your combat knife and your food knife (at least until you've completed the challenge) You'll wanta break down any armor you find that you aren't going to wear, i've found it can be hard to find a reliable supply of armor parts early on. (You can always make specific sets once you unlock them and get them to a .... decent tier.)

Good luck with that 1.0 horde I didn't do so hot myself mainly because I screwed up my base, the transition platform from the runway to the base bars was made up of doubled up side by side .05m pillars, and they didn't see that as a viable path, and I tried to run to the main safe point of my base and got cornered and died lmao

For anyone that's used to living off the traders and their missions, that's still possible now but with the nerf, even maxing out barter and adventurer, you won't be nearly as comfortable as you're expecting.

To be fair about the hot/cold system being janky: the update coming in Q4 2024 is supposed to include a revamped weather system. I imagine hot/cold will come into play again at that time.

i use the wedge 60 tips for my anti zombie stack block cause some zombies like to crawl even if you have 3 block clearance but use a ramp block for anti stacking measures

Just watched, Izprebuilt and he showed that to do the challenges you can press track and it will tell you what weapon/tools you need to use plus show markers where you'll find them challenges. Have fun :-)

With regards to the traders, you can get several of the same one and you can get quests from each of them and run several before returning to the traders. Also each quest has to be returned to the trade post that gave it. Not all of the same trader will give rewards for each quest.

dew collectors can go inside as long as it has a view of the sky so you can put like a grate to replace the roof

I think he tried that in Blizzard. Collector needed a clear view to the sky with no block in the way. Unless Josh just didn't try the right block.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they nerfed the wandering horde bag drop rate. I think it's still higher than normal as I get a bag out of the hordes more often than not but I'm only getting A BAG, not a couple bags. Makes it worth killing them if you're passing by but I won't bother chasing them down to kill them anymore or even changing course by much.

Someone should test to see if the pipe pistol got buffed. I'm seeing everyone roll pipe machineguns but they aren't doing shit anymore. Also, the first trader reward states it is used for a specific skill tree now...maybe there are some tweaks behind the scenes? might be worth checking out.

hey @JaWoodle, i know you test a lot of things to troll zombies in this game. Did you ever try how zombies behave in a pit or a room (1 or 2 cubes deep) where all around you put stairs but theese are not vertically placed, as they shoul, but are orizontally rotated? do zombies get stuck moving around the border and are they unable to go up and leave the trap?

Josh, they INTENTIONALLY nerfed the trading, because too many players just turned into errand boys for traders, and didn't bother mining, harvesting, or crafting. And i am happy they nerfed trading so hard.

The challenge completion rewards are completely worth the stupid things they require. But it's completely stupid to require stone axe and bone knife. Maybe they want us to complete these things before we even start questing, but then there's stuff like get leather from restaurant booths with a stone knife, but there are no restaurants in the forest.

Hey Woodle, just a quick cheese strat if you need one, you probably already know it. Before doing a quest for the trader, just clear the building like usual and then accept the quest infront of it. It will reset the building and all its loot. Especially useful in Crack a Book stores. Just dont put boxes with loot in front of the store as it will delete them

@@Lightndavoid I find it incredibly useful for the likes of Crack a Book and Shotgun Messiah, really good loot and after you get yourself a pistol with enough ammo, really easy to clear

@@Lightndavoid What would the risk be? Yea you're running two raids instead of one but that's the point. You get to raid two Book Stores or whatever instead of only one which can be a big help if the town doesn't have more than one. Might be risky if using the fire mod, if it doesn't work well with resetting POIs.

If ever there is a question with the challenges, track it. You will see acceptable targets pop up on screen.

I'm curious. Do you think 1.0 is a net benefit or meh? Things like not needing to worry about thermal protection, being forced to drink dirty water, traders being nerfed into the ground, and the ever annoying learn by doing make the game feel bad, and you know modders are working to undo/fix a lot of these things. However, there are some good things here. Optimizations, zombie variants, cheaper dew collector, cool new vehicle and player models. I dunno. I generally feel like we lose more to nerfs than we gain in gameplay. This used to be a proper survival game, now it's a zombie horde game with survival elements.

Unless some new mod drops that only works for V1, I'm probably going to stick with A21. So far the only good things I've seen are the improved world gen, vehicles, and dew collector and even then mods had already improved those for A21. From watching the few videos so far optimization doesn't really seem to be improved, I bet the only reason it might be improved at all is due to them changing the player model and armor so it no longer lags due to trying to display all the clothes you could wear in A21. I have a i9-10900x, rtx2080ti, 128GB ram and V1 still lags in all the same spots, when hordes spawn and moving around in big cities and I don't have streaming software running like streamers might. Zombie variants are great but we need more zombies, not just the same ones that are different shades of grey. The Demo seems to be the only one that actually had work put into it. I hate that V1 only has four armor slots. It limits the type of builds you can really do and Josh mentioned it in one video that the buff would have to be huge to outweigh the con of dragging extra sets around with you. The trader to trader progression change just doesn't make any sense at all. Why script what order you have to visit traders? All that does is ruin the randomness of the game and force everyone into hours of listening to Rekt's BS and now Hugh terrible dialog. I really wish Josh WOULD remove Rekt's voice lines as so far that's been the only bad thing about this new play through and the V1 streams. If I do move to V1 the first thing I'll likely do is just completely remove Rekt and Hugh from the game, either replace them with one of the other traders or just completely remove their compounds from the POI list, hopefully someone has a mod out that replaces them with an all new trader by then.
