Welcome to our channel. All the weapon systems are like books. They tell us their stories. The Weapon Detective investigates these books, reads between the lines, analyses, and tells the untold. At the dawn of the Second Cold War, the fruits of new projects give us clues about the future. But current weapon systems also have their own stories. You can find in our videos technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let's investigate the weapons together when the Second Cold War is rising.

The South Koreans have never forgotten how well the amphibious invasion worked at Inchon. Instead of landing our troops in the Pusan pocket General McArthur pressed for an invasion just south of Soul at Inchon which took the North Koreans completely by surprise and turned the tide of the Korean War.

Biggest problem with Dokdo class ship is the single deck not double deck like other amphibious assault ship around the world. This has limited number of helicopters it can carries on a mission as deck area will be crowded with tanks and other amphibious vehicles.

They should use this as a drone carrier, along with the amphibious assault role. They could get a huge number of drones on this ship, and the flight deck is ideal for smaller craft such as attack helicopters and drones.

@@theodoreolson8529 I think that @habahan8529 may also be referring to FORD -Class teething issues. HMS PRINCE OF WALES has had some propeller and propulsion plant difficulties. All of these are very large ships. With FORD, I think the problem was trying to put too many new designs into the new carrier, a "revolutionary" approach as opposed to an "evolutionary" approach with incremental improvements of existing proven systems. But FORD is certainly proving herself to be a worthy addition to the fleet.

Back in 2012 I had the opportunity to talk to some South Korean Navy officers of Lt. Commander and Commander rank, and they all agreed that the building of the Dokdo was more of a political decision rather than a strategic one. At the time it was felt that the building of a large warship named Dokdo, and intended to defend Dokdo island would be a major flex against the Japanese, who were constantly claiming sovereignty. They gave the impression that this ship was more of a drain on the naval budget than anything else. As this video mentioned, Dokdo did not have a dedicated naval air unit even well after her commission. The only good points were that the actual design and building of the ship gave South Korean ship builders vastly improved knowledge of how to build large warships that were well suited to open ocean navigation.
@kbkim6497
@kbkim6497 3 ай бұрын
Well the ship is not an aircraft carrier. So you dont actually "need" dedicated naval aircraft. But in general you are right. Its slow speed, single deck with dry dock, and SMART L radar, shows that ROK Navy had not made any conclusion on what to do with this ship.

Would have thought they would have tried to go for some Sea Cobras---at least that's what came to my mind. They were built for sea use and would provide an offensive/defensive/support punch. That is if they're even built any longer. Would be kind of cool to see a Navy version of the Apache though.

ROK Army has some Cobras that they are retiring and replacing with their own light attack helicopters and some Apache. They have coordinated joint operations to allow the temporary presence of attack helicopters on their naval vessels. Permanent presence is considered unnecessary because they are focused on the DPRK neighboring threat and don’t need to support ongoing force projection over long distances. If the ROK Marines ever need support from attack helicopters, there will be some around and available.

Even small LHD's are good utility and support ships, so I'd expect them to stick around for quite a while. They're good support for special operations, and for moving army aircraft around if they're deployed for peacekeeping purposes. Even after a CV or 2 gets built, they'll retain this utility without tying up a CV. They are also useful for learning large deck flight operations, especially if they work alongside the US Navy, Royal Navy, or even the JMSDF. If the French or Italian navies get out there at some point, they would be two more countries to compare notes with.

The missiles come in individual canisters that are 3.5 meter long, and weigh about a 100 kilo's. 4 Canisters are packed in long flat boxes that are almost 4 meters long. Anything that transports things like that internally takes up way to much space. And the dimensions are just way to cumbersome to handle them manually.

@@jurajkolnik7335 it cant operate F35B. No heat shielded flight deck, elevators lacks capacity, only a single deck which is too low for a maintenance of F35B and has most of its volume dedicated as well dock. Also, the flight deck is too short so need a ski jump. Will need to rearrange elevator layout to improve performance. But even with all these updates completed, the ship wont be able to accomodate more than 3~4 aircrafts due to its size. Also ship is too slow due to well dock which works as disadvantage for an aircraft carrier.

The name Liancourt Rocks seems neutral, but it's just a name randomly given by the captain of a French whaling ship that was already there, 1,849 years later. Dokdo has existed for a long time in the territory of Koreans whaling since prehistoric times and has been owned since 1145 in the remaining Korean historical documentary records. You said that Korea and Japan are in a territorial dispute, but the Japanese have to have a passport and get permission from the Korean government to enter Dokdo, Koreans can just go by boat. It was briefly used by Japan during the illegal occupation of Korea, but it signed that it would return all the annexed islands of Korea to give up all the territory it had forcibly occupied when it was defeated. The Japanese government signed on to the Allied delegates that it would be difficult to put all the names of hundreds of islands in the surrender document, so they would write down only a few large islands and return all the other islands taken from Korea. Now, the surrender document did not have Dokdo's name, and the island they called Takeshima was not anyone's territory, and they unilaterally declared that they would have it because they got a desert island that no one knew, but official documents and maps issued in the Japanese Empire clearly indicated that it was Korean land, and it was also reported to Korea with a report from a conscientious Japanese scholar. The name of the Japanese archives that have been stored without disclosure is also specified, and the contents of the document, map name, and classification number are all disclosed as photo evidence. The Japanese government systematically concealed evidence and educated and promoted only their arguments, so the Japanese found and territorialized uninhabited islands where only gangchi lived, but Koreans (the country name was Joseon at the time) knew that gangchi lived there and recorded them. They claim to belong to them by fishing and hunting gangchi, but even before that, Japan knew about the existence of Dokdo gangchi, but they couldn't touch them and went extinct after more than 30 years.
