RBS 70 was initially combined with the 20 mm lv-akan (AA autocannon) m/40 in the half platoon AA-units in the AA-batalion in the Swedish army brigade. So there was two RBS 70 and two 20 mm AA-guns in each AA-platoon.

These were kept in various mountain rooms / secret air bases inside mountains? Which all were later busted by Bergling / Wennerström (to finance their living beyond their meager Officer means?...) So they changed to using the highways instead? A typical example would be Aeroseum in Gothenburg? (What is the story of the spies & the former secret air base?) (Our great Swedish spies seemed to betray our country of no reason whatsoever, except that they could? They were certainly not communists, nothing ideological? It is really all very strange when you try to read up about it....)

HMS Cardiff shot down the British Army Gazelle, almost two weeks after HMS Coventry was sunk. Sea Dart Firings and Kills 9th May 1982 - HMS Coventry - 3 Missiles fired. 2 at target at maximum range missed. One killed the Puma Helicopter. 22th May 1982 - HMS Cardiff - 2 missiles fired at an Argentinean Air Force 707 which was doing a reconnaissance flight over the British shipping route. Fired at Maximum range, the 707 managed to evade the missiles by going into a steep dive. 25th May 1982 - HMS Coventry - 3 Missiles fired. 2 shot down 2 skyhawks. One fired at a plane that hit her which missed. 25th May 1982 - HMS Invincible - 6 fired during the Exocet attack that sank Atlantic Conveyor. Most likely fired at Chaff clouds from another ship. 30th May 1982 - HMS Exeter - 3 missiles fired at the Exocet and 2 out of 4 Skyhawks attacking HMS Avenger and herself. First missile missed, second pair killed the two Skyhawks. Exeter had not had chance to load her Sea Dart Magazine to full war stocks when she was deployed from the Caribbean sea and she only had ten missiles onboard (she had left the UK with 15 missiles, but had fired 5 of them in a big exercise with the US Navy). She did get solid lock on the other two Skyhawks, but due to her captain not knowing when he was going to get reload missiles, he let them go. 6th June 1982 - HMS Cardiff Blue on Blue. 7th June 1982 - HMS Exeter fired 2 missiles at 2 Learjet photo reconnaissance aircraft. One missile went rogue due to a software bug in the fire control system which had been known about for 5 years and not fixed!!! But the other missile blew the tail off the other Learjet at maximum range, 14th June 1982 - HMS Cardiff shot down a Canberra. Cardiff fired 9 missiles during the war, so its a good bet she fired two missiles at the three targets she is known to have engaged. what happened to the other 3 missiles isn't recorded. Exeter fired at least 5 missiles, three of which hit targets. Coventry fired at least 6 missiles, three of which hit targets Apparently there were 36 attempted Sea Dart Firings by the Royal navy during the War. 33 of the Missiles actually flew (the three that didn't failed to launch (or even load the launcher) due to Launcher Malfunctions caused by Sea Salt encrustation (2 round Salvo from HMS Glasgow) or Ice (a single missile from HMS Coventry) . Taking the 6 missiles fired by HMS Invincible off as they were not shot at an aircraft of any kind, that leaves 26 missiles. 2 fired by HMS Exeter and Coventry are known to have failed due to being inside minimum range and a software issue. which means 8 targets were killed by 24 missiles (and 3 targets were known to have been missed due to the missiles being fired at maximum range and the targets managing to evade the missile, with 2 missiles known to have been fired at one of them). I've seen figures of reliability for the missile quoted between 33.3% and 50% (if you fire a 2 round salvo at a target your Single Shot Kill Probability (SSKP) automatically drops to 50%.

0:45 Small correction/clarification: The official designation of the Wiesel is Luftlandepanzer ('airborne tank') Wiesel. Some versions of the Wiesal _are_ Waffentrager, but that is a designation that refers to _any_ self-propelled vehicle with a mounted weapon whose role is to carry that weapon into battle and use it. So most tanks are waffenträger, as are all self-propelled artillery pieces and some aircraft and assorted other vehicles, but the Ambulance variant of the Wiesel, for instance is not. Likewise a supply truck that has a machine gun mounted to the cabin for self-defense against aircraft (and, in a pinch, infantry) isn't a waffentrager either, because it's role is to ferry goods around.

The 100L of water was there for one reason, supply. But they put it under the vehicle to help lower the centre of gravity and a healthy side effect of that was added protection, regardless of how minimal

With drones and cruise missiles being more popular so is this an interesting system as the missile is cheaper then other systems due to complex control systems are housed in the launcher instead of the missile.

MANPADS are good against enemy aircraft, drones, missiles etc, but one should also consider value of cost. RBS-70 missile would be updward of US$ 3 million but an armed drone can be cheap, from say US$ 5000 up, so attrition cost will end up being higher to take it down. Drones do not fly very high, so imagine taking down Drone that costs $ 5000 with missile that costs 3 million, for say taking down 1000 drones, the cost to drone operators $5 million but cost to missiles $3 billion !!! But on the other hand a modernised Bofors 40 mm gun linked to targeting radar will be way cheap to use, & able to take down the target at much cheaper cost. So I think the 40mm or even higher caliber guns with better programable ammo can be more cost worthy than missile specially for cheap targets liek drones.
@znail4675
@znail4675 2 күн бұрын
The entire system costs $3 million but the missile is not the main cost in that as one of the main advantages of the system is that the missile is simpler without a seeker as it's the launcher that steers the missile.

Thanks for your interest. The word "legend" is just a generic expression for our videos for older systems. Yet, the RBS 70 has already proven itself in combat. The whole "weapon legend" label on this channel became somewhat annoying when the MiG 29 video came out. Many people are alive because their nations were not invaded simply for operating about 20 MiG 29. & this channel tries to label the MiG 29 as failure. @@thantzweaung9080 "No Nordic nation (maybe except Norway) has been under real threat of invasion after 1945, regardless of their military capabilities." This is simply not true. @@magnusk4352 USSR was never that strong, it couldn't even install friendly political allies in Finland in 1945, let alone invade a nation with no land border. NATO was also busy elsewhere.
