YES IT'S OCTOBER!!! OMG I could not wait! I just LOVE Halloween! For this project I had already started on her last year but postponed it. I wanted to go for an old fashion style with bright colors. As a mexican I feel it’s kinda my duty to talk here and give my critique, of course, I’m not hating at all, in fact, this project is gorgeous. Although I didn’t feel it that Dia-de-Muertos-like, not all dresses are that colorful, actually, most of the times they’re black with some flowery details, this looks like a red carpet dress or something, the only thing resemblant is the skull face, and a little bit on the hair. Also, it would have been better if you posted her and the endings of October, because this is NOT Halloween, this is Dia de Muertos, which is celebrated in November 2nd. Well, this is just a Mexican opinion, but just looking at the doll, it is beautiful, you have such talent, just pay a little more attention to the tradition. Bye bye 👋

All these people saying it’s not Halloween; it’s Dia De Los Muertos: I agree. Two VERY different holidays. But the people complaining about the modernization? That it’s Tim Burton-esque ? I live in the state where the nation’s biggest Dia De Los Muertos celebration is held every year in a predominantly hispanic town-me being one. There are PLENTY of people who modernize the formal celebrational wear, the costumes and the colors. Even in shops you can find modernized figurines. I see nothing wrong with people embracing a partnership of past and present, that’s a lot of what the holiday is about.

This is a really cool doll. I always love seeing the different interpretations and styles that foreigners add to Mexican culture and I feel like this doll is very unique because you bring something to the table that I would not have thought of. I know some people are annoyed that you bunched Halloween and Dia de los Muertos together, and I agree that they should be seen as completely different holidays, but they’re so close together, I think the title was a good way to stop people from asking “where’s the Halloween video” (especially considering how long it takes to custumize dolls). I also know people are saying it doesn’t give Dia de los Muertos vibes (which is true to an extent) but as I said before, it’a a different interpretation and I’m glad to my culture being represented and popularized.

9:40 The colour pallet and the green 'dress' makes the legs like watermelon with seeds. ( I like watermelon 🙂 )

Whether it’s day of the dead or not, it’s a very amazing doll. This vid just proves at how of a good artist you are! I love how it reeks Tim Burton, he is an amazing story teller and I think you captured that pretty splendidly. I also love how there are some Day Of the Dead vibes in it, it makes it seem very traditional. With both of these things put into one, I think it’s a dream come true. Well done 🖤🖤🖤❤️👏👏

I appreciate this piece very much, and I think it deserves more credit rather than "Oh, this isn't Day of the Dead" or "This is not representative at all"! You are a wonderful artist who thought outside of the box rather than dark and gloomy. Day of the Dead is colorful and bright considering the colors and candles all over the graves. It's not a sad and gloomy holiday... It's a time to celebrate the lives that the dead have lived. So, people, just appreciate the work she has done, and move on.

She's beautiful, regardless of what anyone else says! She has a very individualized look to her which certainly pops to your creative tastes and the beauty that is the openness of the catrina and how she can be interpreted either traditionally or freely as one may like!

I just wanted to say and i hope you dont think im an ass, but dia de los muertos is not associated with halloween at all. Those who celebrate it try to remind folks of this, but i think the word dead makes people do it anyways.

Jesus Hadeet Yes we know this but Halloween or Samhain is also about that, but of course it's more marketed to dress up and give out candy, but people are really drawn to DotD do the unique skull decorations and makeup that Mexicans/Hispanics use. So thanks for the fact..

I think you're being really disrespectful to the culture around Dia de los Muertos with your response. The holiday is a day to remember loved ones that have passed on. Also, Samhain did have going door to door for food, but it was also for different reasons than how it is practiced now. Also the point of Samhain is that it's the pagan new year, and when the veil between the worlds is thinnest. I'm sorry if I'm assuming you're not a practicing pagan/wiccan. I'm just trying to give a better explanation.

I know your point but in fact La Catrina (the creature represented here) is a female figure with more than 100 years of history created by the Mexican cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada. Originally it was called "La Calavera Garbancera" and it was a mockery of the natives who had enriched themselves and belittled their origins and customs. Subsequently, the muralist Diego Rivera baptized her as "La Catrina" . Today, this version of skull with flowers, terrifying and beautiful at the same time, is a source of inspiration in many costume parties, both inside and outside of Mexico. But the meaning its the same, "No matter how much money you have when you are alive, you take nothing to the grave. Everyone its going to the same place at the end. We all know the catrina wasnt made for halloween theme neither for día de muertos but it is a symbol of mexican culture, about aristocracy and people trying to be someone they are not and denying their past.

The whole Dia De Los Muertos vs Halloween thing I feel is a big misunderstanding. Those not familiar with the hispanic traditions see the sugar skulls and think "Oh! That's Dia de los Muertos!" and that's all they know about the holiday. So they see it as Day of the dead = Sugar skulls, Skulls/Skeletons = Halloween. It doesn't help that the two are so close together (Oct 31st, Nov 2nd) So perhaps a better title for the video would be Sugar skull doll.

I think this is a very beautiful doll, but I don't think it really fits the day of the death theme, I mean, yes, she has a skull, but that's also a very generic Halloween mask, and since the painting on it doesn't particularity look like a sugar skull, it can be kind of hard to make the connection. The rest of her outfit gives me more of a creepy mad hatter vibe , so if I didn't know what it was supposed to be I would figure she is some kind of "dark-voodoo-mad-hatter-witch" or something. But again, I'm not hating on it, I still think it's a very beautiful and creative Halloween doll and I'm not gonna scream "cultural appropriation" because I think most of us understand you had your own vision and good intentions, but there are times when a creative interpretation gets to the point that you can't really identify what it was supposed to be based on. Still love your work though!
