I want my stories to be accessible to everyone! This is one of my favorites of my own novels, set in my extensive Hidden Lands fantasy world, read aloud by the author with a little bonus background info.
DOLL GIRL MEETS DEAD GUY:
It’s not easy being a doll girl in a flesh-and-blood world. Although her race was created from magic as second-class citizens, Sorla’s baked goods are now famous for miles around thanks to her hard work and unrelenting optimism. She’s even attracted the notice of Prince Seldon, who invites her to work at the royal bakery in the capital.
The one thing Sorla’s life is missing is love. Her youthful crush ditched her for a normal girl with generous curves (of course), and technically she is unsexed (parts sold separately). Flesh girls certainly don’t have to save money to buy themselves lady bits before they can even date.
Her ride-for-hire to the capital? Dorr, a soldier revived from a battlefield death, as is the way of his necromancing clan. He might rather have been left to die with his comrades. Instead, a few parts of their bodies were stitched on to fix his. Scarred and broken, Dorr wants to drop off his overly cheerful companion as quickly as possible-until he realizes that her pastries are the only thing that’s tasted good since his revival.
As they slowly open up over dog rescues (her idea), graveyard strolls (his idea), and of course, delicious pastry, love and trust grows between these two misfits. But the war isn’t over, and when the royal family expect Sorla’s pastries to save the life of the hero of the realm, she might lose Dorr and everything she’s worked for.
Cross a Ghibli movie with The Nightmare Before Christmas, add a little spice, and you might have the quirkiest of romcoms.
TW: This is a largely cozy & comforting story with found family, supportive family, and healing, but there are mentions of and flashbacks to war. Dorr is dealing with PTSD. There is also some reference to assault & some prejudice against intersex and asexual characters. If you are feeling very sensitive about any of these topics, this might not be the right story for you at this time.

Background noise is not a problem. I especially enjoy when a pet makes a cameo in person or as background noise. I am enjoying this very much. Thank you. 😊

I see Sorla's going through the universal first internship experience of moving to a different city and getting a job that turns out she's vastly under-qualified for. We've all been there, girl, you've got this! You won't be able to google how to actually use excel like the rest of us, but surely there must be magical equivalent🤣 Loved the chapter, it was just what I needed after such a long day! It made me chuckle a bunch of times, the humor really hit the spot for me. The poor necromancer guy (I think his name is Dalaran, idk if I'm writing it right), everyone keeps dragging him every chance they've got 😆 Is he really that terrible?

Haha, yes, that is so true. She's a determined girl so she's going to figure out something...harder to learn magic in a pinch than Excel, though. Fantasy worlds are hard! 😆 Sorla really doesn't like Dalaran because his irresponsible ways are partly what got Grau killed in the Sorcerer's Equal. He's the sort of guy who is not overtly malicious, but...the dude pretty much only thinks about himself and the moment at hand. It's hard to be a broke necromancer because that is an in-demand skill, but...he manages it 😂

I found his cowardice at least very relatable. I think he was singing "the secret to a long life is knowing when it's time to go." For half that book 😜

@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor Amazing - there’s girlbossing too close to the sun, and then there’s Dalaran. Guyfailing so close to the ground that he made himself universally known as unhirable, despite of working on a field where’s the unemployment rate is 0%. The reviews are in, and people would rather just stay dead, actually! 😂

@@phoebs987 LOL "guyfailing" ...well, it's true, you really don't want to be brought back from the dead by a necromancer who "isn't very good". Dorr might feel a little better if Dormongara brought him back. I get the vibe that Dalaran might just glom onto a rich lady at some point

This is like what is said when people almost die, they think everything is meaningless. But for others it's the oposite.

The way you bind the intricacies of the narrative is really talented, its very admirable because i see writing as a very focused and consuming process, and is not a lightweight skill as some people may believe,just keep this up, people need abit of romantic fiction these days , especially after the lockdowns. ❤

That is a very kind comment. It can often feel like all the work put into my world and narrative and linking everything together is pointless and unappreciated. It's really heartening to feel like I finally may have found the right audience. (Because I certainly have been unable to stop!) I've definitely leaned more to comfort reads ever since the pandemic.

Have you considered doing a 'write with me' video? Like in a 'study with me' style and just record yourself while writing for hours? I'd love to feel like I was studying/working (I'm a content/copywriter for work) alongside you while you work because I love studying with friends and frankly you feel like a friend to me now 😊

A few people have asked about this. It could be fun, but I also feel like I would have a really hard time relaxing enough to get in the zone and actually do any writing. I'm not sure.
@catherineeASMR

@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor That's understandable! I suppose one way to see if it's possible is to just keep the camera rolling on yourself a couple of times with no expectation on yourself to actually post it. I was also wondering if you were ever planning on doing a video on the process for how you got your first literary agent? Love the videos and you 😊
@lidiyafoxgloveauthor
@lidiyafoxgloveauthor Ай бұрын
@@catherineeASMR That's not a bad idea. I might try the real thing on Patreon first, smaller audience would be less intimidating, but it might be a little TOO small. Literary agent video is on the list but I do tend to prioritize things I get multiple requests for, so...noted!!

Hi! I came across the comment about write with me/ study videos. I also never could relax and get some serious words in whenever I would try to write live, but here’s what I found that worked for me, instead: 1. Aiming the camera at the workspace and not my face: l don’t feel as self-conscious and therefore can concentrate better. 2. Pre-recorded writing: helps because I can edit noise out later or add music. 3. Record over several writing sessions: this helps if you deal with fatigue or health concerns. Dunno if this helps, but feel free to hit me up if you have any questions about how to do study videos.

So is this in your beloved fantasy world? I remember Our Broken Queen has a Farnarlem doll also. I love that you are finally releasing the novels of your heart!!!

Yes, so far all my books have been about Fanarlem girls, although that won't hold true forever. In timeline order, The Broken Queen is first, then the Cursed Soul trilogy, then Doll Girl.

Ah thank you. I was wondering about the timeline (and if Atorra was the dragon Queen the Dragon promised to introduce to Velsa)
