I want my stories to be accessible to everyone! This is one of my favorites of my own novels, set in my extensive Hidden Lands fantasy world, read aloud by the author with a little bonus background info.
Playlist of all the parts: • Doll Girl Meets Dead G...
DOLL GIRL MEETS DEAD GUY:
It’s not easy being a doll girl in a flesh-and-blood world. Although her race was created from magic as second-class citizens, Sorla’s baked goods are now famous for miles around thanks to her hard work and unrelenting optimism. She’s even attracted the notice of Prince Seldon, who invites her to work at the royal bakery in the capital.
The one thing Sorla’s life is missing is love. Her youthful crush ditched her for a normal girl with generous curves (of course), and technically she is unsexed (parts sold separately). Flesh girls certainly don’t have to save money to buy themselves lady bits before they can even date.
Her ride-for-hire to the capital? Dorr, a soldier revived from a battlefield death, as is the way of his necromancing clan. He might rather have been left to die with his comrades. Instead, a few parts of their bodies were stitched on to fix his. Scarred and broken, Dorr wants to drop off his overly cheerful companion as quickly as possible-until he realizes that her pastries are the only thing that’s tasted good since his revival.
As they slowly open up over dog rescues (her idea), graveyard strolls (his idea), and of course, delicious pastry, love and trust grows between these two misfits. But the war isn’t over, and when the royal family expect Sorla’s pastries to save the life of the hero of the realm, she might lose Dorr and everything she’s worked for.
Cross a Ghibli movie with The Nightmare Before Christmas, add a little spice, and you might have the quirkiest of romcoms.
TW: This is a largely cozy & comforting story with found family, supportive family, and healing, but there are mentions of and flashbacks to war. Dorr is dealing with PTSD. There is also some reference to assault & some prejudice against intersex and asexual characters. If you are feeling very sensitive about any of these topics, this might not be the right story for you at this time.

Thank you SO much for the support. They do take a ton of time, but it's been a good excuse to spend time with the characters again.

Yay! I had been waiting very impatiently for this 💞💞 I love how introspective the main characters are, they really make the effort to consider themselves and others.

I have an old manga shelf tour video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMemlpiAzq23paM.html It's still pretty up to date because I mostly stopped collecting manga after this video...the deals dried up so I mostly just buy missing volumes of series I'm already reading now. I also plan a bookshelf tour of the rest of the library but currently it's blocked off by remaining boxes for Ebay from selling my father in law's collection.

It's a bit like catching a radioplay instead of binging. I enjoy this so much. Even if it took a bit of discipline to not read ahead in the beginning ;-)

Yay another episode! I love the mix between coziness and heavier topics like war and the will to live. I listened to this out loud outside early in the morning, and a little old lady just happened to walk by just as the bath scene was being read. She hurriedly shooed her dog away in horror 😅 I wanted to be like “But wait! It’s so cozy! And there’s food!” 😂 Thanks as always for sharing your work with us!

LOL..."horrified lady with a dog" appears in the book, even! (Okay, I know she wasn't a snobbish Ven-Diri lady, but the humor of that moment sounds like a scene I would write.) I'm so glad you're enjoying that mixture, it's really my favorite thing to balance the hard emotions of life with the comforting aspects.

@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor That was in the part where they go to the park at night, I believe? (Apologies if I'm getting the timeline wrong) As I am in a small town in Louisiana, I will now think of her as the "neighborhood Ven-Diri lady" 🤣

Finished this recently. My copy (for others) has the same cover, but also got the kindle version too, so I could switch between the two. I am away for the 1st time in years - last one awake but loving the fact I am staying in a wooden country cottage during this reading, it makes it feel extra cozy. As always, thanks for doing this. I will back on discord when I return to the family home (not too long). I will miss this place though, there is so much nature and disability aids, so you don't have to hire lots of stuff. There is also a real log fire! I love this story - Goodreads/Amazon review coming soon!

Hi Lidiya. Do you have an editor for your novels? Just curious. Big fan.

I have worked with editors in traditional publishing, but I haven't used an editor in indie publishing so far, for various reasons. I'm not anti-editor or anything, just that they are expensive and I haven't yet had a book that I felt would do better with one than without one.
