Wherever you grow up as a kid you have great memories. Kids make the best out of whatever they do or dont have. Imagination.

I am of mixed-raced heritage from Custom House originally, used to go and see me aunt who lived in Poplar High Street above the shops, near Robin Hood Gardens, remember going to Chrisp St Market, fond memories back in the day, the East End was so different then, not the same anymore, moved out to Essex, shame you don't hear the Cockley accent no more, proud to be a brown face cockney😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍I enjoyed the video.

Brown face? Bangladeshis were the only brown face back then and still are today in London’s East End.

@@east_londonlad8988 Sut up you mug, the Bangladeshis were in brick Lane and Whitechapel not Poplar, they came after, learn your facts boy.

ricky sorhaindo have your parents not taught you any manners? A bit ironic calling me “boy” when the white slave masters and confederates of south called people like you “boy” Yes you’re right about Bangladeshis being confined to brick lane and Whitechapel, but by 80s they did disperse to different parts of the borough including Poplar even though it was no go zones for Asians at the time due to racists attacking us on a daily basis.

@@east_londonlad8988 you would never call me boy I would knock seven bells out of you, we are not in the colonial days now meat head, it must really hurt you if you still live in the area and the Bangladeshi community have made it home from home, a little Bangladesh 😁😁😅🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂

ricky sorhaindo haha internet warrior keep giving the big talk online from the comfort of your home and phone typical racist coconut. I bet you got bullied by the black supremacists in your area and school and even the white guys didn’t accept you haha. There’s nothing wrong with brick lane being “little Bangladesh” same way Southall is “little India” and Brixton was once “little Caribbean” or Green Lane was once “little turkey”. It’s no wonder why you move to Essex old man you think your white 😂

Wasn't Poplar public library around the corner from Poplar bus garage in Leven Road? I started there in the bus garage aged 16 in 1971. Great times and happy memories for me. The bus garage closed in November 1985, and I've heard that it's to be demolished. Does anyone know if Poplar is still standing? Thanks for your upload.👍Kind regards

Bro I worked in Levens Rd bus garage in 2001, then it was owned by Hayes IMS who I worked for at the time. Huge building!

@@D-No974 Hi, I remember that Hayes had taken the building over for storage i think. London Underground had used a portion of the garage on the left hand side, to store lifts and escalator spare parts. The garage was certainly huge, although we only ran 60/70 buses in service it was packed out with loads of storage vehicles that had been there for donkeys years. Sad to think that the old place may be demolished soon. Just like the Aberfeldy pub in Aberfeldy Street. Had many a good drink in there after work. Good folk too. Cheers.

@@jonniejam-shovel6405 Yeh Hayes IMS stored files there for law firms, accountants, doctors etc, boxes floor to ceiling! I can see why developers would want that land, scumbags!🤣💯‼️

Born in Poplar in the 60s, attended local primary and secondary school, St Philip Howard’s, now moved out of London but what a dramatic transformation in the last 40 years largely due to immigration and modernisation. The next 20 years this pocket of London’s east end will not be recognised

It's there but like my old dear she tries to pronounce a bit better, probably because she's on camera but might have done it all the time...people used to think it common sounding if you went for a certain type of job etc.
