heard "basic channels" a couple months ago on spotify's recs & got obsessed. i had no clue "ghost" was a justin bieber song till now; josiah delivers it like it's his own & his cover is so sparse and rich at the same time. i did listen to the JB original after this, and i like it too... but i think the cover makes it better. i love seeing country artists make smart choices with the songs they cover. luke combs caught lightning in a bottle, obviously (and good for him!), but this "ghost" cover kinda blew my mind.

It’s been inspiring to see Dolly soar to mainstream success, but be open to change and exploration as an artist. I am loving this, and it follows the creative journey she got on (imo) when she recorded Stairway to Heaven in 2002. Also, to see an older women still engaging, evolving and creating - especially her being a woman from Appalachia. Inspiring doesn’t begin to describe my feelings.

Was hoping to hear something about The Cadillac Three's album The Years Go Fast. Been listening to this record for weeks. Very well rounded record with TC3 really playing into their trademark sound they are known for in regards to the more southern rock style mixed with moments of acoustic realism in Pistols on the Levee and This Town Is A Ghost as well as some life reflection. Those two songs previously mentioned had a lot of personal ties to Jaren Johnston with his father's passing and just creates a much more real sense of authenticity that is brilliant and admirable. The first single from the album Hillbilly featuring Elvie Shane, Ketch Secor really makes you stop and think. It's a hard rocking anthem but it ties into real topics of addiction and in a way depression. I could go on and on about these songs. Every song on this album has Jaren Johnston on it as a writer and Neil Mason also co-wrote songs. The best part of country music is the authenticity of music. When artists write their own music I said it before it is authentic, real, and creates a much better listening experience. A lot of the things from this album I can relate to on a personal level. Whether it be this town is a ghost, or hillbilly, or the torch. I highly recommend giving this record a listen!

Brad Paisley didn't spend that time shilling for pharma. He spent that time shilling for the thousands of doctors and scientists working round the clock to come up with a vaccine and slow that shit down. And as an Appalachian kid, Brad's right about our community being affected by misinformation. He can't be "disrespectful" to us. He is one of us.

The vaccine did nothing positive, but it did a hell of lot of negative. I'd say the pro-COVID vaccine, pro-lockdown, pro-mask crowd is far more affected by misinformation than the average Appalachian person. And I’m not Appalachian myself, so I can’t speak for you, but I’m pretty sure a man worth $120 million who has lived in Nashville for decades can absolutely be “disrespectful” to Appalachian people.

I listened to some of my favorite rock blog review the album and they were not open minded and that really bothered me. One recurring theme is that she should have reworked the songs and turned them into country to better fit her voice. That totally defeats the purpose. I thought Dolly did a solid job with these songs and her duet with Halford - bygones - is one of my favorite rock songs this year. I didn't know Dolly wrote it. I figured it was a Priest deep track.

It seems like recently when you mention Brad Paisley, it is used as an opportunity to share your own political views which unfortunately seem misinformed. Being anti-big pharma is NOT being against cutting-edge scientific research, clinical trials, vaccinations, etc. It IS being opposed to billion-dollar corporations profiting from incentivizing doctors to overprescribe drugs, as well as putting needed medication on the market at rates significantly higher than in other industrialized nations. Either way, still greatly enjoy your country music content.
