We've been singing along for decades with Dolly Parton, the poor girl from the Great Smoky Mountains who became the glitzy queen of country glamour. She's still at it 24/7, still writing her legacy one song at a time, without a thought for the "R" word. Tony Dokoupil talked with the entertainer in this profile originally broadcast on February 10, 2019.

I never really paid much attention to Dolly Parton, I knew her music but then I saw a couple of documentaries about her. One was about her career and the other was more about her life. One thing became very clear, she tries to hide it behind her personality and glitz but she is damn intelligent.

One of my best memories as a young mother was seeing my 6 year old daughter’s reaction the first time she heard Dolly singing “Coat of Many Colors”. We were in the car and the song came on the radio. She was so quiet, listening intently and moved to tears before the last note played. Now, 33 years later, I can still see my sweet child’s empathy when those children made fun of Dolly’s rag coat of many colors. Thank you Lord, for the artistry of Dolly Parton.

I’m not sure which one I love most her voice or her personality! I just loves me some Dolly Parton she so captivating. She was a natural beauty. I appreciate that she does what she wants and wears what she likes. On the Porter Wagner show and in movie 9-5 her natural beauty is my favorite look on her. Loves me some Dolly❣️❣️

I have always loved watching Dolly since I was young. I thought it was so funny when the late Porter Waggoner would get visibly "nervous" when he and Dolly would do duets together. 😁😁🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I hope Dolly is still entertaining us until she is too old to stand on the stage and sing and play her guitar!!👏👏😍😍😊😊
