I miss that on 70 I wish we could get it back or try it out on 192

I remember #70 wore an IC Steamboat whistle which is a long bell whistle. It sounds quite similar to the Hancock.

Great video! Great sounds! I have an audio recording of an identical whistle from Cass in W. Va. in 1982!

Is it just me or does this sound a lot like 611
@MidwesternRailfan3 жыл бұрын
Same kind of whistle (Hancock 3 Chime) although different notes. This one sounds lower.

Midwestern Railfan ah, makes sense.

The Hancock 3 Chime is my favorite type of whistle. Especially the one used on SP&S 700 and Union Pacific 844. I also like the one on Union Pacific 4014. They just sound so heavenly.

That whistle really does sound familiar...couldn't be similar to the one on a certain, famous N&W J-Class 4-8-4 could it?
@Cwilliam19997 жыл бұрын
I think dollywood as got some explaining to do.
@radforddivisionrailfan6 жыл бұрын
I just asked on the train's Facebook. It wasn't 611's, but one of the other Js.
@radforddivisionrailfan6 жыл бұрын
Scratch that. It's 734's original Hancock. Western Maryland also used this style. It is the one that is now owned by Al Cunningham, Dollywood's senior engineer.

Idk why but it looks like an ebt locomotive
@SouRwy4501Productions11 ай бұрын
Well it and the EBT mikados are the same type of locomotive. They are both Baldwin 12-28 1/4e class engines. The only differences are that the EBT engines have been modified to have Southern valve gear instead of the standard Walschaerts gear.

How many steam locomotives does Dollywood have and run?
@dollywoodrailfan10515 жыл бұрын
2
@SouRwy4501Productions11 ай бұрын
They have three, but they only run two of them. They have 70 and 192 operational, and 71 as a spare parts engine.

That dont sound like a hancock.....sounds more like a steamboat whistle
