The Saslong ski slope was built in 1968 for the 1970 Alpine Ski World Championships, hosted in Val Gardena, and is today regarded as one of the classic men's downhill ski races.
Since 2002, in addition to the downhill races, the Saslong has also hosted SuperG.
Over the years, all the greatest downhill skiers have won on this track, Peter Müller, Franz Klammer, Pirmin Zurbriggen and Kristian Ghedina. And on 13th December 1981, Britains Konrad Bartelski finished second here, the best ever finish by a British downhill racer.

The Saslong Course
The course starts from at 2,249 meters just below Ciampinoi and finishes, 3.446 meters alter in Santa Cristina in the heart of the Val Gardena, with a vertical drop of 839 meters. The average overall gradient is 24% and a maximum of 56.9% at the very start of the course.
From the start gate, the steep gradient accelerates the skiers towards the Spinel jump and the steepest part of the Saslong at 56.9%. The following compression and slight uphill lead to the Saut dl Moro and the Looping jump, which has been scaled down due to some dangerous accidents. Then about 500 meters on a shallow gradient slope, often decisive in determining the race outcome and which leads to the Sochers jump.
The following left-right-left combination leads to the Sochers walls at 55.95%. Here the competitors accelerate off the wall achieving top speeds of around 130 kpm ready for the most famous and spectacular feature of the Saslong course: the "Camel Humps”. This series of three bumps often see competitors ‘fly’ over 60 meters.
Onwards to "Curva del Lago" ‘the ‘Lake curve’ the course leads to the entrance of the "Prati di Ciaslat", four very demanding curves in rapid succession each with a differing undulation.
To finish you reach the jump ‘Nucia’ and the ultimate glide and the final "jump of the tunnel" and the final schuss as you pass the Gardena Castle.

It is a delight but I'm afraid that the lift company has ruined the flow. 😞

Your videos are really really good. After watching the La Longia clip I had to go re-live Saslong again. Just amazing although harder to really depict the compressions and side slopes on Saslong compared to La Longia. Saslong - just loved it. Remember skiing it over 10x one morning!

Thank you Erik! The BIG challenge on Saslong was shouting at Louise to slow down as I followed behind with the camera 😂! We typically ski it much quicker!

I'm not impressed old man. A lot faster is possible. You know the run to the new blue gondola, (you know which one) I saw a reckless guy, I could keep up but wasn't able to pass him because he went so fast. At the end of the run I saw he was a old man too. Very impressive. So no excuses.

This videos are awesome. I'm going to finally try all these slopes in a couple of weeks. One thing that would add a lot to these videos is a small speed meter somewhere on the video to have an idea about what speeds are you developing on each one of these slopes. Thanks and keep them coming!

I did this one today too. It was more challenging than the ones on the Seceda side, but not nearly as rewarding as La Longia. It was nice doing it as a warm up, though, because after that, I crossed to the other side and went full throttle on La Longia and on the "main" descent back to the train.

When did you last ski it? Last season after the race, they put up some fencing to change the routing which kind of destroys the integrity a little. But hey, the Saslong is the Saslong!

Hi, really nice videos. Can you give any recommendations of ski schools for adults and teenagers? We’re looking to head to Val Gardena next December (2022)

🤣🤣🤣🤣 what you don't know and can't hear, is me shouting at Lou, "slow down." She was skiing at a pace that aloud me, the cameraman, to keep up as we do with all our videos! Usually you can't keep pace with her!
