"Dominant Industry" Inks, Part 2: More Inks, More Swatches

Hi Everyone! This video was a bit rushed, so please accept my apologies if it's a bit cruder than usual. In this video, I unbox several bottles of fountain pen ink, including three from "Dominant Industry": Dominant Blue, Milky Way Blue, and Base Black. All three of these are safe for fountain pens, but I only actually inked fountain pens with two of them... the glittery one was relegated to a glass dip pen.
As usual, I do some ink swatches on a variety of different papers, and I also present a few writing samples, although nothing too elaborate. This box from Pure Pens also included three Troublemaker Inks, though I don't actually swatch them here.

Swatching on different paper shows how much of a difference your paper choices make in your writing, and whether you want the base ink color to dominate or the sheen to shine. Thank you as always for a great swatching video.

Yes, and the choice of paper makes a much bigger difference in color with some inks than many people realize, too. A lot of standard inks will appear blue on one paper and green on another, for example. 😀

I like the shape of those bottles and the sheen is quite nice on these inks! Your "rushed" "crude" video puts my videos to shame lol, I appreciate the care you put into the cinematography, side angles and lighting. A pleasure to watch as always. I look forward to the troublemaker video :)

Thanks! With all that's been going on around Thanksgiving, here, I haven't even opened up my Troublemaker ink bottles yet... but I'm really excited about them. I love your videos, and your light-fastness tests are awesome!

I watch every video you put out Kimberly! We're not *all* in it for the flashy cinematography. The thorough quality of your information is TOP NOTCH! And I love that you tell us straight when it's not worth getting a fancy mixed pigment paint like Schmincke is always tempting us to do! I have 'Maple' DI ink and it's very pretty. I'm waiting for Yoseka to get Autumn forest back in stock. To me it's a bit sacrilegious not to put a pigmented ink in an Eco, as I use them for watercolor and sketching, and they won't go dry with anything from Kala to Kakimori, but I can't find an appropriate and usable green for the new Jade color that came out last. I mean, I *could* use an Eco to write to penpals, but then all the OTHER pens might get jealous. Hey, I'm waiting for the Troublemaker video too! What's up there, Mr. Cinematography? Matthew: Surely you've tried Organics Studio 'Nitrogen'? It's SO right up your alley. The TWSBI 'Midnight Blue' that came with my Karashi Soell Eco has a more subtle sheen but you'd like that as well. I think they offer that ink in the US, but the photos on Goulet don't do it justice. @@ANonymous-rx6lu Hi Adeline :-) I have about a dozen videos to make right now, but I'll get to the Troublemaker as soon as I can! Believe it or not, I have not managed to pick up a bottle of Nitrogen yet, although I do have a couple of other Organics Studio sheeners. But I do have a big bottle of TWSBI Midnight Blue on my desk right now. I love how that ink feels in the nib of my pens! Thanks for the info about the contact form on my website! How you only have 2.38K subscribers at the moment is a mystery to me, not to mention an utter disgrace. I love your style, Matthew. Your videos are always well made, with excellent lighting and cinematography. I, for one, appreciate all the time and effort you put into these. You always seem to know which music to pick too. :)

I just discovered these inks from the r/fountainpens and there aren't a lot of reviews on them. Thank you so much for the thorough review and as someone else said all of the angles and lighting! i am for sure looking at a pearl ink.

Hi HB, glad you found the video helpful :-) After these ones, I purchased four more bottles of Dominant Industry ink, but none of them are Pearl... I guess they're just not for me. Hope you find one you like 🙂

I'm not a huge fan of glittery inks, but Milky Way Blue is definitely an exception!

@@thewetpenI don't like glitter ink. Frankly, I don't like it. But this is a very different ink. It is metallic rather than glittery. At least it doesn't spill like Vinta or Ferris Wheel Press 😅

It's a pretty impressive looking ink. I still haven't inked a fountain pen with it yet, though, and I'm not sure if I ever will :-)

@@thewetpen Yep - dip pen only so far. Heh. I will probably dedicate an inexpensive pen to it, just so I can stop reshaking/redipping. Gently rocking the pen back and forth would be easier.

Hey Matthew. Happy Thanksgiving! Those Dominant inks were so good. The ones in the last video were ok. But these ones.. Oh my!! You saved the best for last, it seems. And those bottles; gorgeous. I agree on the sheen on the Dominant Blue. It's just the right amount. I bought the KWZ Sheen Machine when it was new and all the rage, and I loved it back then. But now I find myself using it less and less. That is because you can barely see the blue beneath the sheen. I don't know, it feels kinda .. gaudy. I've been eyeing Troublemaker inks for a while now. Eagerly awaiting your review. Hope to hear from you soon.

I agree... I started off with a lot of super sheening inks, and while I do still enjoy using them on lower quality papers that don't sheen as heavily, I've mostly switched over to medium sheeners instead. Luckily, there are plenty of good options out there. I should do a video about my favorite sheening inks at some point.

@@thewetpen I would absolutely love to see that. Perhaps you can do one by colour, you know like sheening purples, sheening pinks etc. There aren't too many videos like that. I've been looking for sheening brown and turquoise inks, haven't found many. Might be a pain to research though. Just a suggestion.

@@thewetpen I have 3 of the Pearl one. Glacier is a pretty light blue with silver shimmer, and Winter night a black/grey one. Greetings

Since you're The Wet Pen channel, can you recommend a wet pen? I want a real gusher. Any recommendations? Not really interested in a broad tip. Largest I'd go is medium but would prefer something like a fine.

Try a jinhao x159 with a #8 nib, it's great in medium with diamine twilight a good gusher.

I buy the papers from all the usual sources... Amazon, various pen shops.... but if you mean the testing Notebooks, then I make them myself. If you're curious, I have a video about how I make them on my channel here.
