Dominant Industry Inks : Three New Bottles

I just ran across this brand for the first time last week at Yoseka, and I loved the look of the bottles (that's all it takes for me, apparently) and I ordered three of them. This is just a quick video to share my first impressions.
A few tidbits that didn't make it into the video: these inks are not water resistant except for the Downpour, which is just slightly water resistant, and of course the Lennon bottle. All of the "Dominant Industry" inks are on the dry side when using a glass dip pen, but in a fountain pen, they seem as wet as any ink... which I can't explain.

I couldn't find much information about them anywhere, so I felt that it was my duty to buy them ;-) I love the bottles, and the inks are nice... though I'll admit that the Downpour was a bit disappointing, since I was expecting a blue-grey (from the photo on Yoseka's site). Still, I do like the grey, so I can't complain too much.

I got the Autumn Forest, from the Pearl Series, absolutely gorgeous... I should have bought a couple more, most of them are sold out

There was another green that I wanted that was sold out (Leaf Green, maybe?), but when I was ordering at Pure Pens, I discovered that they had all the Troublemaker Inks in stock, so that made up for it :-)

Thanks for a great video. I purchased Romania Red first, and then bought Ginger Chicken. Fantastic inks, beautiful colors and wonderful formulation. Next I hope to get Earl Grey Tea.

Thanks for the beautifully presented ink demos and writing samples. I have their leaf green standard ink and love it’s oily smoothness and rich colour so it’s good to see what the rest of the range is like. 👍

I will have to look into this brand and purchase at least one bottle, which will be hard. I try to stick with one brand to help control my spending. But, I really like the Korean writing. The green is very very pretty.

I stumbled across your channel and immediately recognized your voice from your lens reviews. I would like to see archival and document inks in a lab notebook from Eureka and or The Book Factory. Those are important legal documents and yet no one to my knowledge has every done a controlled test.

Ha! I think you're the first person who has made that connection (certainly the first to mention it). I'm currently working on a video about waterproof inks which will include a few archival inks, though though that video is on the back burner because of a couple of other projects from my other channel (just got three lenses in the mail, including the Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8), but I agree that it's an important area of investigation. I'll see what I can do.

@@thewetpen Thank you for your response. I have always enjoyed your practical and thorough lens reviews and look forward to learning more about inks. The Scientific Notebook Company sells a "Single Project" Notebook with 14 pages of 60 lb. acid free paper for $5.00 if you are interested. Also, Ecclesiastical Stationery Supplies in the UK sells an iron gall "Registrar Ink" that is different from Diamine's and that has many fans on the Fountain Pen Network. I will watch for the 35-150 review. Best regards.

@@nandi123 Thanks! I may end up with a standard 96 page notebook, but the 14 pagers sound useful for testing. I suspect that Iron Gall inks are not going to be the best choice in the long run for archival purposes, as they are generally acidic. These days, they're usually not acidic enough to be a problem, but I've seen photos of old manuscripts where the paper looks as though someone cut out each letter with an razor. I'd lean towards pigment inks or archival dye inks (like Rhorer & Klingner Dokumentus, or Ko-I-Noor.)

I just got into the fountain pen world, and have only just bought a jin hou x250. I might just get the forest ink, because it looks beautiful, especially with the small parts of lighter ink. I just think it has great character. Also, and tips for a newbie like me?

Forest is really beautiful... seems like a good choice :-) I'm still something of a newbie with fountain pens as a hobby... I've used them for years, but I've only started really collecting pens and inks for a couple of years now. I don't have much to offer in the way of advice except for the general things that you probably don't need to hear again: take your time... don't get a bunch of new inks and pens all at once... you'll appreciate them a lot more if you spread it out. Also, don't worry about what other people like or don't like; if something is to your taste, stick with it, but also experiment and try new things when you can (different nib sizes and types... don't just always stick with "M" because it's safe, etc). Have you come across Carpink inks? I can't find their website online, however, I've bought one of theirs from Desk Bandit (here in Australia). I believe they're Taiwanese, come in simple, cute 20 ml bottles, and have some fabulous colours and sheen (without being too sticky). I have the Electrooptic Violet, which is the wettest (and one of the most well behaved) inks I own. I'd love to see your work on those inks!

No, I'd never heard of them... though now I've looked them up on the deskbandit website, and they look very cool. Haven't checked the cost of shipping yet, but I'm guessing I'll have to wait until I take a trip to Taiwan for it to be practical 🙂

Interesting that the box says "Ink for dippens" even for the fountain-pen-safe inks.

It is. I wonder whether they just bought one type of box to save on packaging costs, and they do all work for dip pens :-)

Are these dye or pigment inks?

These are dye inks. Some of the non-standard inks from the company (the holographic / mirror ones) have a solvent that makes them not suitable for fountain pens, but all of the standard and glittery ones are dye-based.
