Notable are Dominic's comments at 41:15+ about happy innovative societies being those with low levels of government intervention in our lives. A rational means of mitigating the phenomenon of ever-increasing bureaucratic control every several decades is certainly needed.

Is it racist to want your own people to survive? Why is it ok for Black/Asian etc people to collectivise and look after eachother I think thats great for them. Why are people so threatened by the native british population looking after their own people and not wanting to become a minority in their one and only homeland?

Great guest. I've read 3 of Dominc Frisby's books. He didn't mention his classic (in my opinion) Life Beyond the State. Good frank discussion on the "racist" issue haunting us all. Francis and Constantine simply weren't up to it. Too much time living in London I suspect.

My God! I found myself holding my breath too. Boy, that was just fascinating about tax and then race. The fact we don't feel we can't talk about something like race, means we do need to. And the fact that so much of it is centred on feelings. People's feelings being hurt. It's just ridiculous. I've been accused of being sexist by a woman about a simple harmless comment on KZfaq and I am a woman. It's just insane. I was brought up in a very religious family and even though I've left that religion I don't like the word cunt, and ok, I don't like it but it doesn't bother me when Francis or Konstantin use it because I know they aren't using it to demean women. Thanks again guys, because this is very thought provoking. Definately food for thought. Keep up the good work!

I likely agree with you but technically a woman could have the same opinions of woman as a "sexist" man and male feminists exist who have the same negative opinions of men in general as some "sexist" women. Point being, I think a woman can be sexist against women and a man can be sexist against men. A white person can have what could be described as "racist" views about white people and a black person could have "racist" views about black people. Some feminists are clearly female chauvinists who may have a dislike for men but they can also have a low view of women as incapable and requiring help or they view women's average choices as inferior. "How can I be sexist against women, I am a woman" is a good defense against charges of sexism against women in the real world, but technically it's still a light form of identity politics. I'm not accusing you of anything negative here but consider that you have Labour people accused of antisemitism and the defence is sometimes: "how can it be antisemitic when this Jewish person agrees with me?".

I live in the states. Our healthcare options are horrible here if you are not wealthy or work for a big company. I myself have not had proper health care in decades and if anything ever went really wrong, than going to the emergency room and then declaring bankruptcy to clear the terms of thousands of dollars it would cause would be my only option. Insurance companies lobbied for this. It can happen to you too.

This is the best interview you’ve had since the channel started. Interesting and thought provoking from start to finish. The bit I’d really have liked to hear discussed in more detail was about how Dominic came such a cropper investing in Bitcoin. It’s understandably a sensitive issue for him, but would be fascinating to hear. If the man who wrote a book all about Bitcoin had such a disastrous experience investing in it, what hope have the rest of us got to use this as an alternative investment? He’s a clear and engaging speaker and I wish the interview had been longer. Thank you. Good job.

What the British call "friendly societies" are very similar to what Americans called "social clubs." Before government rigged the system to favor employer based health care, Americans would join the Rotary Club, the Elks Club, the Hungarian Club, and so forth, and each club would offer group health insurance to its members. Often these clubs were self-insured, so there was no profiteering on their insurance.

1 - You can track transactions through bitcoin but you can't tell why the transaction took place or between whom. 2 - Only about 2% of transactions are illegal How do we know the percentage if we don't know why they took place?
@MajesticDemonLord
@MajesticDemonLord 4 жыл бұрын
The easiest way would be that you take the total value of all transactions, then you calculate the percentage of transactions that aren't declared by public companies and with a few assumptions you get a figure of 2%
@butterfieldrusty1
@butterfieldrusty1 4 жыл бұрын
@@MajesticDemonLord Apologies for my ignorance, it just struck me as an odd thing to say. DF kept referring to bitcoin as cash, I get that he is a, 'the government is watching us' kind of guy, so it would seem like a good way of conducting transactions. I wonder what the percentage of non-public registered company transactions are? This is an honest question. Is it say 4%? So we are presuming half are, say, er, questionable? Are half of real cash transactions questionable? So what is the formula? Or can they track, trace and identify illegal transactions? I really don't know? I am genuinely interested in learning. Not least because if it is truly untraceable it may prove very handy to have. I tuned in to watch a comedian. Is this part of the act?
@MajesticDemonLord
@MajesticDemonLord 4 жыл бұрын
@@butterfieldrusty1 No need to apologise - I don't know the exact formula myself, but with most things where there is a 'Dark Number' (namely a number that is not accurately known) the way to guesstimate it is to calculate all the other known values surrounding it and then compare to similar known numbers. As an example, with most crimes, the rate of False-reporting is around 10% (ie 1 in 10 reports about a crime made to the police for any given offense is false) - Some of these we know pretty accurately, some of these we don't, so we use the benchmark of the known numbers and how they relate to other known numbers and from there infer a figure. As a real-world example, in NZ the Economy of one region (which is one of the poorest areas, and has a large organized crime problem) was estimated in the billions of dollars - obviously the Gangs aren't filling in their tax returns, but there is still a value of legitimate goods and services that flow in and out of the region, and from there a figure is calculated.

I learned something from watching this. I didn't realise how important tax is. I agree with less government and more individual freedom. Konstantin was right about appropriate language in how we conduct ourselves. Censorship of racist views angers indigenous people as using a person's skin colour against them was a means of expressing an inalienable superiority they felt they had. An in built advantage.

KK i agree with your point about why is colour relevant . Special interest groups bring up colour all the time. Lammy, Abbott & that chap who got Alastair Stewart to resign mentions race all the time & no one pulls them up. I was told by the boss at work before an interview ' Thought I let you know, no matter how well you do you won't be getting promotion. because you don't tick the right box'. Apparently, they were under pressure from higher up. I'd be embarrassed & unworthy if I didn't get promotion on merit

I feel like the more people they talk to from all different walks of life, the more they become clear in their thoughts and their confidence grows. In recent times Konstantin has become one of the clearest and most coherent commentators on social issues, including race. I think if this conversation was held again now, even with just an intervening two months, his courage of his conviction would be stronger. This is a great thing, but we're in a society which punishes free thought. 💭

Interesting conversation guys, thanks. A bloke I saw on something like Comedy Unleashed talking about the history of taxation, its relation to civilizations and wars and then the NHS...? There are a lot of well-read comedians, I now realize. Don't agree with all Dominic's points, especially on the idea of free market health care, but his point about the potential for waste is a good one, although not inextricably linked to the NHS being a publicly funded system, I think. There are a lot of good and interesting book about things like money (the idea/philosophy of it, not the physical stuff itself), taxation and-the-like, but I suspect this will be among the more interesting, given how he views and phrases things, a bit like Bill Bryson's book about the English language, Mother Tongue, which is a fantastic book. Thanks again.

Yes, tax is a subject that bores me rigid but I persevered and found it very educating. As for the jokes about the man at the football match at the end, making the comments, this is the sort of banter I heard all through the 80s and 90s when working in Fleet Street but NOBODY was exempt from having the piss taken. We all used to rib each other. It was BANTER. I used to get comments about being blonde and busty but I would give as good as I got. I also, as a Yorkshirewoman in London, got endless references to "ee baa gum", whippets, warm beer, flat caps and endless pisstakes of my pronunciation of the word "bath". We would name-call each other and rib each other endlessly about male/female characteristics, sexist jokes (about both sexes), colour would often come up in the conversation too - ALL colours and jokes perpetrated by ALL colours. This crap has gone too far. It's bizarre, insane and maniacal. The biggest "virus" in society is so called wokeism. In my opinion, these people need some serious psychiatric help. I've worked with and enjoyed friendships with people of all colours and backgrounds and the one thing we ALL had in common was that we could laugh at ourselves and each other. For God's sake people (and by "people" I mean snowflakes... GET A LIFE. Thanks you two for bringing us these refreshing podcasts. I've given up mainstream media now (actually that happened a long time ago) and learn much, much more from the likes of yourselves, Douglas Murray, Peter Hitchens, Spiked, The Spectator and so on.... As for Bitcoin and crypto currencies vs Govt. trust backed "fiat" currency: Exactly how is Bitcoin NOT fiat? 1. What do you have if you can't get on the internet? 2. What do you have if you forget your password? 3. By which measure do you value Bitcoin? 4. How can one be determined to be a "Bitcoin millionaire"? Does that mean one owns one million Bitcoins? No, it means you own enough Bitcoins to equal a million.....DOLLARS (in the USA). IF the US Dollar became worthless tomorrow, at least I could burn the linen for a minute or two of heat.

I like most of what Mr Frisby says but when he talks about the cost of living when talking about food accommodation and clothing... he said that we pay roughly 15% of our income... what world is that in? Certainly not Britain... 5 years ago, I was paying 700quid not for a flat... but for a small bedroom... i was earning 1700 a month. Over 40% just on the most basic of accommodation and that's without including the food and clothing. Quick maths question... how much would I need to be earning to make that total 15% of my income? Edit: plus water, council tax, electric, gas.... this makes that 40% look more like 60%.
@williambarnes7948
@williambarnes7948 4 жыл бұрын
I think the facts here are that good and clothes used to be a big part of living costs. Now they are much cheaper, and people have more money left over which they are willing to use to get a nicer home. The total of these three essentials is about the same, but good and clothes are cheaper. If health was run by sainsbury and lidl, it would cost less.
@Saddamuel
@Saddamuel 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think he made a mistake there. The usual figure is 50% not 15% but either way, we certainly have much more disposable income. He could argue that much of the cost of housing is due to government intervention and a massive rise in standards of homes. How much would it cost today to rent a flat with no electricity, washing facilities, running water or indoor toilets? I guess the improvements make it hard to compare like with like!

I'm thinking serfdom was not abolished in Russia until 1865. It is certainly the case that chattel slavery was not ended in the United States until 1865. The Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 only freed slaves in territories NOT under U.S. jurisdiction (as crazy as that is). Slavery remained legal in territories under U.S. jurisdiction at the time. In any case, in the United States 1865 was also the year in which the entire population was enslaved under a free range system of slavery.

I don't have a problem with having a govt run things, to me it's a question of what they run and how much. So I'd be happy to nationalise, or the govt have a majority shareholding, of our utilities, defence, healthcare, education, roads etc. What I don't want the govt controlling is what I say or think, what I can see, hear or read, who I hang out with, or do in the privacy of my home, providing it's not negatively impacting someone else's rights. There is a line between the private and the public, between rights and responsibilities. But free speech, free association and the rights of the individual are the foundations from which everything else stems.. A govt which interferes with those things should be resisted.

I know a white woman who was married to a black guy from the West Indies. They used to hang out in a West Indian community and they would talk about Africans in a "racist" way. Her contention is that proper racism is about the imbalance of power, and is therefore generally associated with white racism against the black community. However if one black community has a more powerful societal position over another and uses that dominance in a discriminatory way, then it must also be considered racism. What is a bit tedious now is libertarian white guys coming on these discussions complaining about thought police changing the use of language. He seems to think that its OK to call someone a black cunt, so long as it is another black man, and its done in a pub and it can forgiven because its a football match. By that logic is it OK to do that at the match, directly to the player, so long as you have a beer in your hand and you are also black. I'm guessing the black players might not think so.

This guy is interesting to listen to but plays fast and loose with his facts, beyond just mistaking the American Revolution and Civil War. Serfdom in Russia was abolished under Alexander II decades prior to the Russian Revolution---contemporary with the American Civil War, actually. It is clear from historical tax tables that Americans paid substantial quantities of income tax at all income levels well before the Second World War contrary to Mr. Frisby's claim, see files.taxfoundation.org/legacy/docs/fed_individual_rate_history_nominal.pdf If taxes never go back down after a crisis, then they would be at 100% by now. Tax rates go up and down, crisis or no. After WW1 U.S. top tax rates dropped from wartime highs in the 90% range, down to a top rate of 25%. This happened again after WW2. In the United States, tax rates are decreased by essentially every Republican administration. Food is highly regulated by government---the food market is not "free" in the absolutist libertarian sense Frisby is channeling. Animals are inspected prior to slaughter, farmers are heavily subsidized, ingredients are judged safe or prohibited as unsafe, etc. Britain itself slaughtered millions of cattle to stop the spread of mad cow disease---it wasn't the free market that did that. He gets so many basic facts wrong that it undermines his overall argument and makes it seem he is letting ideology rather than reality guide his worldview.

the tax tables you link actually show precisely the point that taxes were not high for most people. Average incomes in the US in 1913 were about $1,296.00 so a federal income tax rate of 1%.

Individualist Libertarians always forget that if you don't have tax then your income, in aggregate, goes down by more. In a productive monetary system you just don't need everybody's labour, which begs the question why should those people whose labour we do need waste their time producing a surplus to give to you? You don't have the money to indicate that it is worth producing anything for you that would cause you to be engaged in the first place. Social libertarians, on the other hand, understand that if the system is to work, all available labour hours must be sold.

It would have been because it spread the tax base as wide as possible and made sure that EVERYONE contributed to the local services they gain benefit from not just freeholders and tenants. It should have led to the re-invigoration of public interest and participation in local government and held the councils to account.

The trouble with the NHS, apart from quango managerial jobs, is the god like status and powers bestowed on doctors. They're not too different from politicians- they can more or less decide on their supposed monetary value. So many GPs are on astronomical wages- some in the £200,000 + per annum area. Even junior doctors start off around the £70,000 mark.

Junior doctors start off at about half that or slightly less depending on specialty. Look up FY1 pay scales for the NHS.

@@cloudybeforerain7134 Well for someone in their first year- an apprentice of sorts- that's a very good wage. I know that my GP was earning £250,000 per annum- he's bought half the properties in my town- two cafes, one restaurant, three retirement homes and four palatial properties for his children. Some of his retirement homes were later taken from him due to his malnourished "Inmates".
