Excellent review guys! Thank you for an honest, unbiased review. Disappointing, because I do love the concept too! Was hopefully this would be the One device to rule them all. I’ve not been please with my Sena headset (sound is horrible), so always looking for something better.

I ordered mine last year and i dindt recieve it .If the sound is lost from the back then you do a test with water-based silicone all the way around the speaker if the sound is better then you also know where the problem lies, charging can you always without having to click that thing off and the less clicking the longer it lasts, so when it comes to mine I know what to do, thank you for the review

Hi Guys, good review. If it using cellular data for rider to rider, i presume when there is no phone signal the connection drops and this would be chargeable when going abroad and data roaming on your phone costs? Is there any radio function on it, i couldn't see anything on their website? Seems strange to come to market with this size of product when other manufacturers, Cardo, Sena are going smaller with Packtalk slim and SRL. I presume to reduce wind noise etc. Seems like they need to do moire development - not a good recommendation for a helmet audio system if you can't her anything.

Interesting . Maybe it will get improved as generations of the product come and go. I use the built in sena units on my C4 and Shoei Neotec . Love them . The Shoei is a little quieter . Great video you guys . Always fun & nice to c u .

Other reviwes state it also matters if your helmet has speaker pockets or not ,those without speaker pocket hear it less and the ones with speaker pockets hear it much louder as the foam and linings dont intrude on the sound wave.

If i were to make a guess. The wind noise will make the sound lower the faster you go. Wind hitting the helmet makes the shell shake, just like the unit makes it's audio.

Expensive bit of kit if you loose sound, especially when you can get good sound from something with the headphones inside the helmet that don't really effect anything or cause problems anyway. If the sound was much better at speed then it would be worth it, you can get a handle bar remote as well for an extra 70 quid

They have noise cancelling ear plugs for the unit but I think they are around 32 pound.

They should have also included a set of their earplugs that they are selling as accessories. They look VERY similar to the EarPeace ear plugs, with ceramic filters. I'd be interested to see if that fixes the issues that you have experienced.

I gave up trying to use ear plugs with helmet speakers. The perfect solution for me is using earbuds that plug into the intercom. I can hear the music at any speed at very low volume while also protecting my hearing. Given the volume is low I also have good audible awareness of what’s going on around me.

I wear ear plus with my Cardo Freecom2+ and the music actually sounds better with my ear plugs. I can ride all day and it cuts down on wind noise, I can still hear my exhaust and the music volume is just perfect. I think the Domio concept is pretty smart (no wires or anything) really clean install (though it could be smaller), but because I always wear earplugs, I would not consider it.

If you are going to go this route, why not just build the speakers right into the helmet? I am surprised some helmet makers haven't tried this. People might pay a premium to have good sounding bluetooth speakers pre-built into their helmet.

Good review Both. I think they have a long way to go to make viable. I have just bought the Packtalk Bold intercom and music unit with JBL speakers and it's great.

I think the area to focus on is the interface area. The better the surface area touching the surface of the helmet - the better the vibration transmission. I am a designer and have ordered a unit to do some testing. If I find a solution that improves the volume / performance - I will let you know. Perhaps I can design a stronger and improved mount that will add more pressure to the attachment. It could be as easy as a thin material between the induction plate and the surface of the helmet. I am in the film industry and have access to tech that can produce prototypes etc. Question guys, is the bottom of the pad pressed against the helmet when mounted or is it just above the helmets surface?

Hi Guys I have the same helmet as you, I have tried several types of ear plugs but they all cause terrible rumble/vibration when I ride with the peak on or the visor open. Its absolutely fine without ear plugs but I don't want to damage my Hearing.I ride a 2018 GS Ralleye which I have changed screen but makes know difference. Have either of you had this problem?CheersPeter

I ordered a Domio pro. Hopefully the pro has had any flaws worked out. I never wear ear plugs. Why would you take it off once you put it on? Other bikes have speakers on their handle bars and people can hear that for blocks away.

Does it have a mic, or a socket for an external boom mic jack for mobile calls?

Is it a 2 way communicator? From your review you only mentioned about how it performs playing the music.

I like the concept but it's not an all in one solution and I think if going for something audio it should include speaking capability too and include a mic. What is it competing with? Clearly not the Sena or other complete solutions. Could it be time for a new video showing how you manage your helmet communications and video including the provision to record your audio? Great video as always.

Hello what your normal intercoms you use ?

Genuine question: do all the things stuck on the outside of a helmet compromise the helmet’s performance in a crash? What I mean is, I presume helmet manufacturers spend a lot of time designing the outer shape of their helmets to minimise twist (neck trauma). Having a camera mount stuck on with strong glue surely affects this adversely - or does it?

how do you use it as a intercom of there's no mic for your voice?

Appreciate the review!! I’m gonna keep track of this product and hope they address the points you bring up. I ride with ear plugs as well (wind will kill your hearing people!!) so not being able to hear with that in is a no go for me. Hope they build in the ability to skip songs as well.

A lot of riders ride faster than 60. Sorry even if it works at 75 mph, it's still not loud enough.. Plus it does NOTHING for wind noise.. So we want to save our hearing so thats a no for me..

It's not "amazing" when it doesn't work at any speed out of town (fast roads) and never will (unless maybe they make a very special helmet dedicated to the unit and its physics).

Not surprised really - if the concept was truly viable, the big names would be already on it. Good review - but for me the headline is "Doesn't work". If you cant hear the music then the wait was pointless and I guess the backers will have lost their money and ended up with a mostly useless product despite the marketing and pretty box. I'm guessing the boys at Domio have nevertheless had a pleasant ride with plenty of free lunches - the joys of crowdfunding!

Recently received the Domio and it arrived defective. It easily paired to two different phones, but there is no audio. I have been emailing them for days and they have been giving me the run-around. All I want to do is return for working unit, but their non response is frustrating. Now I just want a full refund, I'm shipping back.

So many issues, even with the Pro version. Using a helmet as a diaphragm for sound cannot do its structure any good - it will have been tested for wind-caused vibrations, which are pretty much predictable, but not for constant and consistent musical vibrations. My own preference, now, is for in-ear monitors plugged into a Cardo Packtalk Bold unit - proper comms, very audible at low volumes, and effective hearing defenders - having been a sound engineer for many years, nothing would persuade me that having a vibrating fishbowl around my head is going to be anything but harmful.

I don't get the point of it, it basically just means you don't have to have speakers in your helmet.. other than the vibrating helmet...lol.

That’s really disappointing. I had high hopes for this new intercom technology. Don’t like the way audio can be heard by others outside. Could be on a mobile call. Hope they get this sorted on later versions as having no wires is a great concept.

All the extra Gubbins on that helmet would be making loads of extra wind noise and having a peak probably adds more. Good review though

Try the German concept from head wave. A company from Berlin has this much longer. I think that works better

Ear plugs stops sound......so that seems it is the problem with ear plugs not the Domio.

Seems massively flawed. It’s trying to be different but I cant see any positives. It doesn’t work at speed, it plays more outside the helmet than in and appears to be very cheap plastic that won’t last. They appear to have forgotten about the bike part of the equation.

Sound loss to be expected with the concept. Think of cars with ICE and high quality systems. You hear what you want as a passenger but outside everyone hears the mid and low frequency miles better all down to wave length propagation and distance required. Same with this system using the helmet as the room or car space, insufficient length in the helmet to generate frequency half waves plus major sound power loss. In ear plugs transmit the sound through the body direct that's why deep base sounds can be generated and all human frequencies heard, using minimal power. The device should have a probe that goes inside the helmet, magnetically coupling with a skull implant. Max frequency range and volume with minimal power and sound quality loss, then you'd be Rocking All Over the World, Magellan style.

You where listening to music with earplugs in! ? It's like testing GoPro in a welding helmet... - mmm yeahhh, GoPro quality is shit, can't see much, ohhh yeah then I took my welding helmet off and realised that you can't really see much through it...

Those tiny clips do not hold my Domio in place. The springs are slack and it falls right out. Worst of all, Domio will not reply to my inquiry.

Product of Canada? I'm ashamed that we released something like that. Obviously they have a ton of R&D work to finish before the product is ready for market. Do they think everyone wears a cheap helmet without sound proofing and rides a moped around town all day at 20 mph? They should be ashamed of themselves for releasing that for sale.

You guys are very polite.... And that's understandable. But let's face it, is not even as effective as a £2 set of wired ear plugs which also serve as an ear defender. And it's more expensive than the basic ( but very capable) Sena smh5 which is a fully functioning bluetooth intercom. To quote the Dragons..... Good luck with the business, but it's not something i would invest in... I'm out!

Nah not for me I listen to too much embarrassing music I wouldn't want everyone else hearing also phone calls wouldn't be very private. I'll stick to the el cheapo freedconn types never had an issue with them. They should have invested in a helmet itself with the buzzer/vibrating thingy integrated into the actual shell. Looks a bit of a flop.

Do not waste your time and money. Does not work as shown in advertising. Does not work well with the bike riding, above 60km / h is inaudible, impossible to hear - with the motorcycle stopped you hear and also everyone on your side, because the sound leaks like a speaker (shameful) - the new you can make a call, probably everyone next to you will hear what you're talking about, riding a motorcycle, forget you won't hear anything! They lie about 100% satisfaction, they only give you back 90% of the value and even more, you have to pay the shipping back, which depending on where you live the shipping cost is not worth making the return. The advertiser sells the product very well, but it will last a long time in the market because the product is bad and make it difficult to return money. Its a very poor product & atrocious customer service. I would completely avoid unless you want helmet music only for things like snowboarding / mountain biking. You can't use this product as an intercom and the sound at speed on a motorbike is not good. The company are totally out of integrity in terms of doing what they say, when they say they will and once you lose your patience with them via eMail communication then they ignore you. They avoid taking any responsibility for anything other than TAKING YOUR MONEY. I am so disappointed I fell for this product and even more disappointed with the company for ignoring my polite questions regards how to return & refund.
