IMPORTANT TO NOTE, I did not add in the video, but Timothy B Schmit is lip syncing as well.
Don is currently playing 10/20 songs on the setlist on drums. So I was wrong when I said he only plays a “couple”. Credit where credit is due lol.
I went to the show because I wanted to see the Eagles and I never had before. This was the hotel California tour and it was in Pittsburgh 2022. I was 20 years old at the time and I was just going to see the show to see a bucket list artist of mine. I brought my camera in cause I wanted nice photos. I watched Don sing and the Eagles sing Hotel California in its entirety and was blown away with Henley and had a religious experience almost especially during the last resort. then it turned into a completely different thing. Don came up to the mic to address the crowd before going into the mid show intermission and he started talking and he sounded like he had been smoking for 60 years and like he had a bucket of frogs in his throat. He addressed the crowd and said “I’m feeling a little under the weather tonight, but bear with me and we are going to try and put on a great show”. The minute I heard him talking this alerted a huge red flag for me not only as a musician and singer, but just the common sense part of my brain lol. or cough or mistake. so from that point on I already knew something was up and that’s when I really started watching him in particularly. I wasn’t even focused on trying to take until I had a suspicion because of how bad the security was. These video clips are very short, and while I was taking them, I was turned around and not even looking at my camera, which was very difficult. And in most of my videos on the unedited takes, you’ll see my camera shoot down real quick to hide and then I’ll raise it back up. security was on high alert which made this difficult to capture. I’m just a little bit better at it than a lot of the old farts that get caught with their phones with their flashlight on while videoing which is what most security guards were looking for. I was holding my camera with all sort of funky angles trying to capture up close video of Don in particular because he was really the only one that I suspected at the time. I saw him cough a few times when his harmony track kept going, and I thought he looked very suspicious in his singing like he wasn’t using all of the muscles in his throat to sing, and some of his facial expressions did not match when he would go up to a high note like they should. I really wasn’t able to solidify any evidence until I got back to my car and sat in the parking lot and started layering tracks from my video that night to tracks from 2018 that perfectly matched and that was when I absolutely knew. So this was not premeditated. It was something that I found out while watching. I happen to be one of the only people in that entire arena that was able to figure it out. Like the majority of Eagles fans, especially the diehards, they have been fooled for damn near seven years and it’s a hard pill to swallow. And people will defend them to the end of the earth saying they are just that good. Newsflash they’re not better than they are in the 70s and no matter how much equipment you have. You can’t get it that exact every night with every single song. It’s laughable that people still believe Don Henley is just that good that he can sing better than his 20 year old self and sing like a computer for 7 years straight.

Likewise with the late Gordon Lightfoot. Barely able to get anything out (vocally) toward the end, but the audience revered him and so appreciated the authenticity.

If you look at people's necks you can tell when they are actually singing versus lip-synching. You can clearly see Joe Walsh's neck muscles and sinews reacting when he's really singing and the difference when he mimes the higher notes. Henley is miming all the time, unless the Botox from his face has leaked down and paralyzed the neck area.

How soul-crushing would it be to go up and be a living puppet to a lip-sync track night after night? Can you imagine that you were once a great musician and singer, but now you just perform a puppet show to fool your fans into thinking you're still a musician? My heart would die. It's difficult enough to play the same songs night after night, but to just be standing there moving your lips to a track would be like being a zombie. It is horrible to see music icons reduced to human puppets who lie for money.

I agree with most of what you've presented on this video,...the only thing I don't agree with is that you stated Don Henley is doing a "karaoke" show. If he were doing karaoke, he would actually be singing the song himself "live", as all karaoke performers do. I perform karaoke myself, so I take exception to this comment you placed in your video. Karaoke performers sing all of their own music. Now, we may not sing it perfectly, and it may not even be in tune every time, but rest assured it is all "live" and unedited. Rock on. ✌🎶🎤🤘

This is Don 'perfectionist' Henley. A live show is not supposed to be perfect. It's supposed to be live. One goes to a concert to hear a natural and instant rendition of every song and that's it. I 100% don’t doubt that there are Eagles albums where Don doesn’t play a single beat or that Glenn never played guitar on. It wasn’t an uncommon practice in the music industry during their earlier years, they were perfectionists, and if they believed it would be good for their bottom line, they would beat their own mothers. Ever since Henley had a prostitute overdose at his house and she turned out to be 15 of 16 year old girl, I was done with these pieces of --. Shame Joe Walsh got wrapped up in their bs. And at least Don Felder can say he had nothing to do with this stuff. It’s like Felder was too decent of a person to be an Eagle so they had to kick him out.

Thank you for doing this. Saw Eagles in '22 and '23 and suspected plenty of gratuitous autotune (including the Joe part you feature here) and knew Henley's voice was shot but didn't suspect lipsyncing the entire freaking show as you've shown here. I figured they're 75, let them have some autotune for a victory lap, at least they're not a baby band using it. But this is too much. I hate living in the era of autotune, backing tracks, and lipsyncing. *assumes old man posture* I remember growing up in the 90's when there was a general embarrassment about American Bandstand and lipsyncing during the disco era and into the 80s. We're right back there in the last decade where audiences demand absolute perfection and one mistake gets picked apart all over KZfaq. There is barely any 'live' music on 'live' TV anymore, musicals are tracks, and don't get me started on how perverted the 'live music industry' is with it now. I suspect LiveNation mandates it in some contracts because of how prevalent it is. I blame a combo of autotune and singing shows like Idol and The Voice. We've become entitled to perfection ot the point where live shows are almost numbing by how perfect they are. You're right, support live music. This is a free market thing. Until audiences indicate they will not accept stuff like this, artists will continue to do it.

I'm a trained vocalist and musician, and I know what to look for. With Henley's singing, I honestly believed that he has been lip-syncing, based on sonic analysis by Wings of Pegasus, but in this video, I just don't see Henley lip-syncing. The spot you pointed to as proof didn't look off to me. It's true that lip-syncers can fool us sometimes--the key is to actually sing rather than just move your mouth--but I don't see it here with Henley. With Walsh, he clearly doesn't hit the high note. Perhaps another singer was doubling him on that--or he's syncing. His vocal sounds like the voice of an older man, not the voice we remember. If he is syncing, the recording is recent. I must say this whole situation is deeply troubling.

I'm an amateur singer and player self taught and didn't see it either. Also, I am pretty sure I have seen other videos where they actually show the whole band and remember seeing someone else sing the high parts this poster claims Joe faked. Here I heard Joe take the lower harmony. I'm pretty sure there are a few people on that stage who sing those higher harmonies and Joe takes lower ones. That's what I see a lot in bands with older singers do.

Tbh I dont know. I wouldn’t put it past him. The piano at times is a 1000% a track so even the backing musicians aren’t playing everything live. So what would stop them there. From what I’ve heard when you layer the drums over and over you can hear the tracks collide telling you it’s live drums. I do trust that the drums are live just because his backing guy uses the same drum set. I do think the drums are real bottom line tho.

@LoneWolfUsul
@LoneWolfUsul 2 ай бұрын
It honestly is not. This is not new, nor is it in any way detracting from the show. Half of Motley Crue used backing and fill tracks for every show they ever played. This is so common in live stadium shows, it is really unbelievable people do not have more of an understanding why it is done. He is a performer, he has a product to deliver (to 20,000 people at a time, not 200) and it is his responsibility to ensure that product is delivered the way he wants it to be delivered. (soar throat, sick, or whatever) If people want to see guaranteed live shows they can go to a dive bar in a college town and watch cover bands. If they want an Eagles experience with the actual living members of the band, then they go to an Eagles show. These performers are like magicians for your ears. You are just pointing out that the magicians assistant is a contortoinist who is scrunched up in a box and complaining that the magician didn't really saw her in half. Don't go to a magic show, spoil the magic for the audience and then blame the magician for not being a better magician. You are the one spoiling the magic, not them. This has literally been done by every stadium live act since stadium live acts began. Musicians/performers use all the tools at their disposal to guarantee as good of a show as possible. This is 2024. Most "concert goers" are going to rave style DJ sets where literally no live music is being played on stage, it was all done in a studio. Literally no one going to those shows are complaining about not seeing the tracks mixed live. I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's not unacceptable to lip sync live, it is unacceptable to lip sync live BADLY. Acts since ELVIS and the BEATLES have been doing this, live on stage in front of thousands, and on TV. It's really just not that big of a deal. The artist is just guaranteeing your shared experience to be a high quality. You should really thank them for being so concerned about your entertainment experience and not fuss at them for using tools of the trade to ensure that concert going experience. (no matter how badly they might feel the night of the concert)

Randy Meisner quit the band because he couldn't handle the pressure of hitting the high note in Take It To the Limit night after night. That must have been a terribly difficult decision for him to make, because quitting one of the biggest bands in the world like that would clearly effectively end his career. Hitting those high notes consistently is hard, and when you mess up, people notice. But that's also part of why they make the big bucks. Randy wanted a rest, but Don and Glenn wouldn't give it to him, so he walked away, which was the honorable thing to do. I get it that Don is old now, and your vocal cords get thicker, which makes it harder to reach the high notes. Plus general wear and tear. But the honorable thing is to transpose lower, or retire. Faking it just isn't acceptable, unless there's some special reason for it and you aren't trying to fool people.

You're a blessing for doing this. Thank you so much. I love investigative minds. As the video shows, The Eagles (we're focusing on Don Henley) jacked up the ass on tickets. I must give past credit where its due: Don Henley was an incredible musician. Notice how I say "was". The Eagles were, and maybe are, fantastic musicians. Not only did Henley destroy The Eagles' legacy, he let down a shitload of people. The biggest insult is obviously how much money these concerts were. Pretty lazy too. At the same time, the music does not deserve to be represented in the future by what Henley did. We enjoyed it without knowing this was going on, so they give wonderful audio artwork. Aside from the rest of The Eagles, Henley deserves what will be coming to get him. I would like to see that contractual institution destroyed. We do not want to see the rest of the bandmates imprisoned by legal agreement. I am glad Felder left early and I would like to see them all together again, except for Don Henley.

It is literally a matter of what people call "muscle memory". Vocal cords are a (very specialized) form of muscle; very trainable. They can be made to respond "automatically" in essence, they can be strengthened at nearly every "normal" herz range that the human voice is naturally/innately capable of producing. Those muscles can even made more flexible, i.e. - the overall note range can be expanded. I am a vocalist/singer myself, & I have sung literally for more than 90% of my life. I was a boy soprano/alto until my voice changed in 6th grade, at which time I became a "Bass I", & eventually an even lower "Bass II"...My vocal range was limited for several years (until my early 20s) to "Bass II/high Baritone. Most tenor parts were non-starters, outside of falsetto My range now (at over 50 yrs old) is wider than ever, stronger, and more "supple" at every level, with better breadth, timbre & resonance, from well below the Bass clef, to well above middle C, without need for going into falsetto - though I do have a very capable falsetto as well - which I also test/train... I can still remember almost every song lyric & every note of the choral arrangements I sang from 4th grade on...like it was yesterday, & hit the notes as well as, or better than ever. I may not even be able to recall all of the lyrics - until right when I start singing -then they just come out almost "automatically". It feels unexplainable & a little eerie. Part of this is definitely a "gift", part of it is constantly exercising/training my vocal cords, and pushing my range both high & low! Another important element (not to be dismissed or overlooked) is that I have taken care of my physical body, & particularly my voice. I've never, ever "done" drugs - not even experimentally (I'm borderline paranoid about the possible/probable effects...), & have also never been a smoker or a drinker. My experience with regard to my voice & its capacity may be different than others; it's worth noting that Henley likely cannot say these same things (about drugs, alcohol, tobacco smoking) for himself. It's sad to have the evidence of his willful deceptions (which I have long suspected) come rolling in like the tide, but not altogether surprising, unfortunately. Everyone who has said some variation of: "Henley should be embarrassed for himself!", is right. The fact that he is willfully indulging this blatant fakery & foisting it onto longtime fans at such exorbitantly high cost...is reprehensible. Shame! I still remember one of my earlier inspirations - the Mills Brothers. I saw them perform, impromptu at a Grammy Awards television broadcast..Those gentlemen stepped up to the podium, positioned themselves relative to one another, & to the microphone - and proceeded to "sing a few bars", a capella. Their voices were *EVERYTHING* - smooth, on top of their pitches, in perfect harmony, moving together from chord to chord, clear & resonant... It was a "mic drop" moment long before that phrase was in our lexicon. And I believe every one of them had to be over 80 years old. I said to myself then & there, "I hope I can still sing that well when I'm their age..." I'm still working on it...

@@andrewlightfoot1323 Disagree. This is why Robert Plant refused to do very many Zeppelin songs. It's not just the excuse of "because we don't have John Bonham" anymore, so it's not Led Zep. He can't do the songs justice. You only really have it in your teens, thru 40s. After that, you gotta start adjusting. Everyones voice changes with age. That's biological fact. I have heard my father, mother, spouse and now mine change. Even more so if you are a smoker. Muscle memory has nothing to do with it. When you hit 70, your voice def. is not the same as when you were 55.

@@vondahartsock-oneil3343 You're free to disagree all you want. I'm only sharing my experience of it, with very specific qualifiers. Robert Plant & many others may very likely be said to have "lost ground" vocally from their respective peaks. I dispute whether they are examples which effectively prove a point about age range, because most, like Plant, are known & documented to have abused their bodies & voices, rather than caring for them. You mentioned smoking, which does have an effect; I have never been a smoker, nor a drinker/ drug user. I'm increasingly an outlier in that respect, and my voice seems to support that. I'm actually over 60. I've lost not 1 note since 40, 45, 50...rather I've added a full step to my low range & 2+ to my upper register. Love to go karaoke singing, as well as sing at church; I can hit/hold Steven Tyler's high "scream" from Aerosmith's 'Dream On', all the high notes from A-Ha's " Take On Me", every note from Axl Rose (Guns 'n' Roses) "Sweet Child" or "Paradise City", same with Steve Perry's "Oh! Sherrie", "Foolish Heart", "Lights" by Journey...& then step to the mic & throw down some Lou Rawls & some Barry White. I never used to be able to hit that high register stuff - not until about 10 - 15 years ago. It is a gift, & must be properly taken care of, challenged/trained - and the Divine Giver ✨️ acknowledged first above all. I have a sense that I may be an outlier. I'm not 70, but I can do things that no other man of my age (that I know of) can. Time will tell, I guess, whether I am (vocally) an age-defying "outlier" on the level of the Mills Brothers, Mel Torme, Bing, or Johnny Mathis, who sang beautifully past 80. There have truly been very few such! I just take good care of the gift, & Bless the Giver with all my heart and gratitude. The rest is up to Him.

@@andrewlightfoot1323, Muscle memory isn’t a valid argument, because of the tiny variations in each recording. Record yourself singing the same note a few times, and compare it on a pitch graph. The Eagles have put on the "perfect" shows since the beginning. I saw them a few times in the 70's. Every lyric, every note, every lead always played exactly the same as on the record. Both Don and Glen dictated this. OMG they were boring. I saw them at a Stadium concert in KC with Dan Fogelberg (opener), and Linda Ronstadt. Fogelberg just on the guitar, he was great (I was a fan). And Linda came out in her pink teddy and great band and just kicked ass. Everyone was on their feet dancing. Then 20 minutes later, the Eagles come out. I concur. As a diehard Walsh fan even I have to admit (whilst it may or may not be lip syncing) there's definitely some meddling with those high notes. There's a heaping of auto tune and it's possible some of the discrepancy in the video could be due to backup singers supporting his high notes. However, I've seen him sing in the city on solo shows (for example the vetsaid live stream) and it was definitely live (and no, he didn't really manage the high note). What that tells me is more than likely Joe still wants to keep his self respect and do it live on solo shows, but Henley won't let him when he plays with the eagles

I assume you're talking about the current lineup who no longer tour with band founder Mick Jones due to him being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. As Mick was the only original member onstage since the new lineup started touring in '05 it's now truly a tribute band, a really good one, but a tribute band nonetheless. Although not original members, keyboardist Jeff Jacobs and instrumentalist Tom Gimbel had been in the band since the mid 90's but Tom retired several years ago and Jeff left the band around fifteen years ago. I'm a day-one diehard fan and I saw the new lineup a handful of times between '05 & '07 but I stopped going when I felt the setlist was getting stale. At least when they first started touring they played Headknocker at my first two shows and they nailed it. They even played Break It Up at one of my later shows and it sounded good. Eventually it just became the same songs being played in the exact same order show after show and I grew tired of it. Fast forward several years later and the setlist was comprised entirely of their greatest hits which didn't interest me at all...not playing Starrider was a big no-no for me. To add insult to injury the new instrumentalist doesn't play sax which is criminal considering their catalog...Urgent in particular. They're packing houses worldwide and I'm amazed people are paying top-dollar to see a lineup which had absolutely nothing to do with the songs they're playing. IMO, they should've thrown in the towel when Mick couldn't perform...but I'm just a stupid fan.

While it is very sad what has happened to the Little River Band, I'm not sure you can say that they were "duped" in the 90s. My understanding is that they were paid out of their entitlement at the time of resignation.The last remaining director Steve Housden, should have allowed them to reference the trademarked name when the past members reconvened years later. It may have saved a LOT of trouble. However court judgements have allowed Housden exclusive legal rights to the name even though he hasn't performed onstage for many years. Joe Walsh also partially lip synched on In The City. When the whole group (all the other acts) got together to sing Margaritaville, Don Henley stood as far away from the mic as he could. I don't understand why some musicians can't change the key to one they can sing their song in. Hubris? Laziness? Bury in the fine print if you must but state somewhere that you're using some backing tracks and say it's, so the casual fan won't miss out. Blame it on them to protect your ego(s). The Police changed the key, (not an easy thing for some of Andy Summer's guitar parts), to most every song on their 2008 World Tour, but then they are all very accomplished musicians. One thing that stands out to me is there is significant latency between the video (which is recorded at the speed of light-- photons from the subject being filmed striking the camera sensor) and the MUCH slower audio (still moving quite fast but ultimately still only at a max of 770MPH at the fastest, reasonably assuming they aren't below sea level, which would make it closer to 660MPH). The end result is that the audio and video are out of sync. The way professionally shot concert performances overcome this issue is that they are recorded using multiple audio and video sources which are then synced together later in the editing room. Here the thing: I am 100% convinced that these guys have been phoning it in for a very long time. I've seen them live more than once, and as a musician myself, I immediately noticed that their harmonies were way, way, WAY too perfect. These guys are fucking OLD and Father Time is undefeated in the contest between what you can do versus what you used to be able to do. In their prime, I think the Eagles were vocally as good as it gets, even better than a lot of family bands that have an advantage due to the unusually close blend of their voices from long years growing up & singing together, plus genetic similarities (the BeeGees, Pointer Sisters, etc.) However, nothing can overcome the effects of age-related wear on the vocal cords and a weakened abdominal support structure that makes powerful singing possible. On top of all that, they spent a big chunk of their later career singing far more frequently than most similar performers under very demanding circumstances. Think about it: big arenas, under bright lights, not always reliable sound systems, drug & alcohol abuse, not taking good care of physical health locked away on a bus or a plane that you must share with a lot of rher people, the relentless mental and physical stress of carrying out a half billion dollar touring enterprise that might last as long as 2 years. Oh, and you're also not just the band, you're also the STAR, and everybody wants a piece of you. Last, you don't get to do the dumb rock and roll crazy stuff to blow off steam because you're also the BIG BOSS who has to oversee employees, payroll issues, travel issues, homesickness and on and on. When shit breaks, who they gonna call to straighten it out? When all you want is another hour of rack time and an egg McMuffin. So I'm just saying I understand their choices. Deeply disappointed but I get it.

I just finished watching Fil's second video on Don's vocals, and then this was recommended to me. Because all the videos that people were sending Fil were focussed on Desperado, I thought that maybe it was this particular song that Don, for some reason, was having problems singing live, so decided to lip sync. But he's not singing anything. WOW!! I like some of the Eagles songs, but, even if i knew for a fact that they were performing every song completely live, I'd never shell out what they're asking to go see them. My favourite band is the Cure. What a difference between the Eagles' attitude toward ticket prices, and Robert Smith's...Smith went to war against Ticketmaster last year to get more fair ticket prices for Cure fans. I've seen the Cure live. Is Robert's voice exactly the same as it was in 1995? Of course not? Did anyone in the crowd care? No! We'd rather hear his real, unaltered voice, as it sounds now, than watch him lip syncing to a track and trying to make us believe that he can still sing like he did 30 years ago. Fans want authentic. And when a band has been around for 40+years, I think that fans are smart enough to understand that a singer's voice is going to change, and they may not be able to hit some of the notes they could when they were younger.
