Composer, singer, guitar player. As fine as vocals and playing as you can get. What a genius.

Followed Don Mcclean from the 1970's - went to all his concerts near Philadelphia. He does not get anywhere near the credit he deserves for all the great music he has written, way beyond American Pie. He is a story teller of the old folk music type. Everyone forgets he worked with Pete Seeger, he had to be special to be able to do that. Remember he brought Perry Como back from the dead. He got robbed of the Grammy that went to Hotel California because his votes were split between Vincent and American Pie. Either one would if have won Grammy if the other was not in the running. One of our great american song writers. Belongs in some hall of fame

I know right? To be honest, American Pie was really all I knew about DM. As a guitarist of the same style as him, I am embarrassed to know that I never sought out the other amazing songs he has written. I heard 'Vincent' for the first time last year on Sirius XM and I actually stopped my car to listen to it. I have since learned and performed it multiple times. There are so many other great songs from him I need to learn.
@MrStevenrgarfinkel3 жыл бұрын
@@guibox3 this is why he did not win a Grammy for American Pie - Vincent was also under consideration - either one would have won but they split the votes - he also revived Perry Como's career and got him back on TV with "And I Love Her So"

Wow! What a great song. I was going to bed listening to this every night, on my Amz app. Didn't even realize it was the legendary Don McLean. Just a sweet song. They don't make em like that anymore.

Holy cow! I haven't heard this song in years and it takes me right back to my high school years when American Pie was "our song" when it came out our senior year . This particular song (Till tomorrow), was about a certain girl for me in college. Still feel it after all these years, so many great songs on that album. Thanks Don and thanks folkman for posting this.

yes...where has all the love gone? what has become of this world? if only we learn to live peacefully with one another then the rainbow will always be there to paint the sky thus signifying a beautiful world. lovers are meant to be lovers to bring inspiration and joy to this bleak world we live in. don's music is simply superb

Another beautiful song from a master of beautiful songs. I agree that Don's 2nd album, American Pie, is full of gems like this but I think his self titled 3rd album is his best even though it didn't have any top 10 hit song. It had several priceless gems like Oh My What a Shame and Winter Has Me in its Grip. To me they're his best work.

Great use of metaphor! "Where has all the love gone? And what have we become? Storm clouds full of thunder, move silent as they drum . . . " The tragic tale of domestic disputes disintegrating into passive-aggressive cold wars.

Such a great song, simple and sincere, thanks Don, I still remember seeing you for the first at the Albert Hall and more concerts in California and a conversation with you at the San Mateo County Fair, I still play along with your videos and perform your songs at performances

I was priveleged to see Don in Melbourne (Australia) in maybe 2003. Awesome. Been a fan since 1977 in my dad's Datsun 260ZX...a eight track thingy. And 'Seals & Crofts' as well. In Australia at the time they were the only two 'tapes' available....well according to our local datsun dealer.

Yes, I live in the Los Angeles area, and have seen him at many of the small and intimate venues in California. If you ever get a chance to see him, you should do whatever you can to grab the opportunity. He carries on with the audience with grace and ease, which makes the music more personal. It is also interesting how time has changed the music just a little, and with age we become wiser, and look at the world through different eyes. The same eyes, but different in a more timeless sense.
@Fliedermous15 жыл бұрын
The absolute beauty of his music is that as long as we know where to go, in solitude, and listen again with our hearts, we can relive the short moments, and hold their memories with us as long as we wish. The music will be here forever, however, we will not. I was told by a wonderful artist I know that we should listen to music we enjoy like it is the last time we will hear it. It's not easy because we take so much for granted. We really do, and the time we have today is so precious.....

This was such a surprise to find on the American Pie album, along with 'Winterwood', actually the whole album I played near to death. Brilliant, I have 3 cd's of Don, saw him live. Talent, class, star, never get tired of listening to this song, or his recordings.

"Till Tomorrow" What can this be, can you tell me? Would you like to discover why we're not free To be lovers I've been wanting to ask you Where has all the love gone And what have we become Storm clouds full of thunder Move silent as they drum And when they're gone we'll be fine, till tomorrow Though I hope it won't rain You will be mine And my sorrow Will take wings in the morning, High above the heavens A rainbow paints the sky White doves sing their songs of love I watch them as they fly And wonder what can this be Can you tell me Would you like to discover why we're not free To be lovers

You are correct in your thinking. Much like Orson Welles who made a masterpiece in his 20,s......I think Don Mclean went from a folk rock songwriter to a superstar. I mean he will almost surely never top the sales of american pie with any other song, even if it is a better constructed one. When asked what American Pie meant he once said "never having to work again unless I want too".

I think America just got tired of really good music and went for the disco crap. Don was mellow and contemplative. You could hear yourself think and the music was beautiful. Degenerate sex mating rituals took over and no one could stand to be alone with their thoughts. They were terrified of themselves. Sex, drugs and rock n roll was everything and lets not forget beer and TV. But that's just my opinion.
