Led by Clint Eastwood and Don Rickles' unforgettable on-screen chemistry, Kelly's Heroes captured lightning in a bottle. But even more electrifying are the untold tales of its talented cast and crew.
You'll gain insights into Eastwood and Rickles' instantly iconic odd couple pairing as the no-nonsense sergeant and wisecracking supply officer. Learn how their contrasting styles brought out the best in each other and built a real-life friendship as strong as the one they portrayed on camera.
But most intriguing of all is the story behind the story - how screenwriter Troy Kennedy Martin molded the outrageous premise of soldiers going AWOL to steal Nazi gold into a comedic masterpiece.
Kelly's Heroes may be a work of fiction, but it turns out truth really is stranger than the fiction, with real-life robberies, cover-ups, and conspiracies surrounding Nazi plunder. This video reveals the buried history that makes the film's far-fetched plot not so far-fetched after all.
Combining Hollywood gossip, untold war stories, and insights from film historians, this is the definitive behind-the-scenes look at a cult classic film. Whether you're a diehard fan or simply intrigued by the peculiar pairing of World War II and heist capers, this video will give you a new appreciation for Kelly's Heroes and the incredible stories behind the cameras. So sit back and enjoy the real tale of the soldiers who pulled off the ultimate bank job.

Man, I watched Kelly's Heroes so often with my Dad - a WWII veteran of Patton's Third Army - that I knew most of the dialogue by heart!! I then turned my daughter on to it and she loved it too! At one point, I was visiting my sister and brother in law when I popped in the movie for them to watch. There's my nine year old daughter playing dolls with my niece when the scene where Oddball is trying to get a hold of a bridge comes on. My daughter, with her back to the TV, says all of Oddballs lines without missing a word. My sister and brother in law both look at me like what the hell! I'm like, "Hey, she really likes this movie too!" 🤣😂

The movie in question was indeed special, featuring great actors. Clint was a complex person. Lacking any serious academic education, his way of going through IIfe was a blend of the roles represented in his movies. Usually, roles taking place in violent contexts with plenty of guns -- even in his roles as a Cop, he promoted guns, lots of shootings and killings. His friendship with Rickles -- the comediant was highly intelligent -- was quite natural. Clint consistently made poor, unformed decisions in his life -- at the Personal, Professional and Civic Levels. And yet he was generous and supportive of his Friends.

Clint was not an actor in the sense that he could play different personalities on screen. He was like John Wayne who in films was always slightly different versions of himself. Not all popular actors are great actors - they just have the magical screen "presence"

did don ever have his own movie as the main character? did he ever direct any movies ? just a comic side kick I thought . I love both actors but I lean towards Clint for sure. Kelly's heroes I watch from time to time as I have all of Clint's Dirty Harry, westerns (including the spaghetti ones ) and others I think I have almost all of them. Deep respect for these guys, but hate hearing Don bashed Clint on his acting.

Don Rickles served in the navy during World War 2. Wayne avoided military service and was disliked by world War soldiers (per military dot con) . Eastwood (who served as a swimming instructor) should have admired Rickles over Wayne.

I saw the flick in a neighborhood theater out in the San Fernando Valley in 1970. I think it was first run. I vividly remember, in the scene when Oddball is showing Kelly his Sherman platoon, they are in laager and laying around, listening to Arab music on an old Victrola, drinking tea, served by village girls, *and smoking from a Hookah.* We all laughed at the improbability of WWII Army guys smoking cannabis as that Generation frowned on it, but realized this was a comedy directed at the younger, hipper crowd. In any subsequent airing of the film, the Hookah scene was cut.
