A lot of people give me shit when I tell them that I knew Don. Don was a legend within his time. And the only times he was like this beyond the camera was with friends, fellow celebrities because he was actually uncomfortable talking with people. My father was in the industry (Jimmy Jackson - *Rollin' Dice* Buddha Records) in the 70s and he got a huge dose of Don that will last forever! 😆😂🤣He signed a scrapbook photo: (from what I can remember, I'll scan and post it when I find it) "Welcome to the business kid. But ease up on the catering or I'll be reading this for your eulogy tomorrow. Love your voice, Don"
@machtnichtsseimann20 күн бұрын
I don't think you can post a link to a scan of that photo, but very cool that you met Don and knew him a little bit. Cool bit of nostalgia, that signed pic. How he signed it does sound like him!

Don Rickles was a truly RUTHLESS comedian. He kinda had to be while riding with people like Sinatra & Dean Martin. You should check out his work at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Inauguration. Its a great video. Reagan wanted Sinatra to sing and Sinatra said he wouldn't show unless Rickles could join them. THey did, so Rickles came along and taunted (and in some cases, outright humiliated) every politician he could recognized.

Bitty’s expression when Don threw the mic and its aftermath is exactly what Rickles was going for. For half a second there I thought she had a stroke.

In the 1980's, Robin Williams, Whoopie Goldberg and Billy Crystal hosted a telethon on HBO called "Comedy Relief". They were raising money for the foundation for homeless people. I like his style of racial jokes because of his delivery. You KNEW he was just messing around, and there was no hatred in what he was saying. He wasn't like so many that are trying to be funny by being mean and hoping you were too stupid to catch on that they weren't kidding.

Don Rickles is from my Grandma's generation, heavily influenced my gen, Thick skin & Sharp teeth! GenX the last of the barefoot feral children that played with poisonous lead based paint covered metal toys, played bb gun wars and if we didn't have them we'd make rubber band guns that left welts! Or made our own slingshots and wrist rockets. That old school 'diehard' mentality kept us alive when nothing else did. Lol God Bless America!
