The walkout was incredible but the fight was reminiscent of the Romero fight - incredibly dangerous killer athlete realizes live on television that he can't touch Izzy in a kickboxing match, and he can't get in on him to get him to the floor. At that point, he was at the mercy of one of the greatest living strikers. You can either get outpointed, as Cannonier and Romero did, or you can try to play the chess match, as Costa did, and eat one on the temple. Unfortunate as Jared's choice made the fight quite boring to watch but it's hard to blame him or Romero. Izzy is just that good.

I'm so happy that Izzy could care less about the booing or the comments section. That's the true champion mentality. Great analysis Unk Chael. “This sport is run one one thing-anticipation.” 💯 Izzy’s style gives opponents a lot of pause when actually confronted with it in the octagon. We crave the finish but the truth is when you’re the current long reigning champ and you start making the 💰💰(bag bag)-your sensibilities tend to become more attuned to that of a businessman rather than a warrior. Izzy’s current style and approach to his fights are more akin to Mayweather than his predecessor/ UFC Middleweight Legend (Silva). It’s a different era to be sure and way more money to be earned now but Anderson’s style catered more to the finish. He would set traps for his opponents and although he was usually far more skilled overall as a fighter than his opponent, he’d unfortunately leave himself open to attack at times-during that exchange however, he usually bested his competitor through the counter attack but there is where anticipation builds. Everyone likes to see a King fall eventually. Izzy’s style caters more to out pointing, out maneuvering and an overall less risk of exposure to attack from his opponents for an all but inevitable victory. Anderson liked trying and perfecting various unique and interesting combat techniques during an actual fight. There were times, especially later in his career, he seemed less interested in victory and more satisfied with the path of a warrior who’s polishing a new discipline. Whereas Izzy’s path has led him to develop a style that caters more to winning a fight and a long reign as champion.

Izzy is a smart fighter doesn't get in hard core battles that shorten his career. He strategically out boxes a hard hitting puncher and manuevers good out of ground and pound situations with dangerous opponents in this area of the game. This is the guys career he's in it for the long haul, so you need to bypass damage if you want a long career in MMA and obviously don't want brain damage during or after your career is over. He's fighting very well with the tools he has.

When are people going to realize what actually makes Izzy a master in this sport? It's not that he always puts on a spectacular barn burner of a fight, but that he makes guys who are big and strong and used to imposing their will turn into scared, hesitant fighters who are unable to implement their strengths. Romero, Costa, Cannonier...none of them were able to solve his puzzle. He's like Khabib in that sense. Everyone fought him scared. Hesitant, unwilling or unable to find any openings. And to do that over and over again…

A friend of mine said this.. Izzy is playing the long game. He doesn’t have to fully engage because he’s the champion. All he had to do is out strike his opponent and have a bit more time control over his opponent and he wins. It’s called “playing it safe” Now it’s up to his opponent to fully engage and make risky choices. It’s also a career extension decision which I have to respect. He doesn’t have to got all out and risk getting hurt because he has something to lose(the belt) the only person that brought the fireworks recently was Whittaker because he brought pressure and action. So far no one else has 🤷🏾‍♂️

I'm glad you made this video Chael. As I was watching the fight last night I kept thinking that Israel is so good that is why many of his fights are boring. Aside from Jan, every fighter comes in with a specific game plan and Israel neutralizes it. I really believe the TV doesn't capture his abilities. His opponent watches the same video we do and they get in the ring and he freezes them. It may make for a boring fight to watch but it's quite amazing.

As a martial artist myself, I love watching izzy fight, its like a beautiful technical chess game with traps, set ups and feints. A slug fest can be fun too but from a strategic martial art standpoint this is more refreshing.

As a European fan I can't remember the last time I didn't fall asleep watching an Izzy fight. I wake up I check twitter. See a UD for Izzy and move on with my day. Zero intention of watching highlights or a full fight replay because I know I won't see anything different in the first five minutes that put me to sleep that I won't see in the next 20 minute. People are only excited for Izzy's next fight because its Alex. Other than that. Noone's tuning into it. And I know for sure if Izzy stinks the place out against Alex too. No-one will ever put up their money to watch a card with Izzy headlining again.

Izzy wanted to show off and I had no clue what he meant until I saw him do his walkout. It was a show off alright and a cool moment for undertaker fans. For some reason I thought he meant showing off in the octagon.

Honestly I think that Adesanya did pretty well considering what he was given to work with. He went in with pretty much the same game plan and same smooth performance. Cannonier was not engaging half the time, just checking Adesanyas strikes mostly. And considering how good Adesanya is at countering, he wasn’t given much to work with in that department. These were two relatively patient fighters in the octagon together, I just think one was being a bit too patient, especially seeing the position he was in for most of the fight.

This Izzy critique certainly makes me think of GSP when he was active. People called GSP a boring fighter and whatnot just because he was cautious. All I am saying is Izzy is doing something right. And I am probably one of those few people who enjoyed the fight because it was fun seeing Izzy's technique and the way he sets up his punches via fakes. And Jared was also catching Izzy towards the end. He had an off night for sure, and Alex will probably make Izzy be more dynamic because Izzy had a point to prove against him.

I think Israel has gotten gun shy after the Jan loss. He most likely fears another loss and now he's just coasting. That's what it seems to be in his last few fights anyway.

Well, the cover band playing George Straight is able to do so because the venue has paid for a blanket license. A publishing company owns the distribution rights to the song as part of its catalogue. And the license gives legal permission to perform the same song within the venue, for a paying audience. The publisher collects the fee ahead of time and that is how it is legally allowed. This is the same for the rotations in retail stores and even the jukebox music in bars. I don't know how it works for a "walk out" as a performance. However, the theme music would generally fall under a similar type of licensing arrangement between a venue and, in this case I'm guessing it's the promotion. It would seem that there is a publishing company that owns a catalogue of sports themes, which includes recording of pro wrestler's theme music. It would be interesting to know if there are rights to the walk out.

The problem with the criticism is it is all targeted towards Adesanya, never his opponents. His opponents fear getting into a brawl as much as he does and do equally as little. Though his last few fights haven't been as entertaining, and his prefight talk should be taken into account, people also have to understand that they are still fighting and hitting each other, ideally, you want to take as little damage as possible as a fighter, and he can only match the pace of his opponent. Jared wasn't any more active, and neither was Rob, or Yoel, so at least criticise both fighters.

I immediately thought of Izzy's fights with Rob (2nd), Yoel.. etc. They didn't want to engage and fight their usual style because they were too worried about ending up on Izzy's highlight reel. Rob already experienced that once. Paulo Costa tried to play it safe too and still ended up getting humped. Jared clearly did the same thing. Instead of trying to win, he tried to NOT get knocked out. We saw it with Anderson Silva. After a few highlight reel knockouts, his opponents just decided to take decision L's rather than get Bruce Leroyed. The truth is that Izzy NEEDS Alex Pereira because he is the only fighter in the division that has the skill and confidence to engage 100%. Even if he wanted to, Dana couldn't dare book another Izzy fight with anyone NOT named Alex Pereira, because no one will care.

I get that Izzy didn’t make it as exciting as promised, but it takes 2 to tango. Izzys never knocked guys out by rushing in, so it’s up to the contender to try and put the pressure on him. While it doesn’t make it as exciting it surely shows us he’s still the best in the world. Pereira is gonna make that a lot more interesting though.

Uncle Chael, When 2 top-ranked opponents with predominantly wresting background fight in MMA, most/all of the fight usually stays standing up. Neither sees the need to prove who is a better wrestler, rather both want to show who is the better striker. So in the future match of Adesanya vs Pereira, shouldn’t the reverse be true? Shouldn’t the match end up on the ground, dictated by whomever thinks they are the better grappler?

Even GSP in a couple interviews, talked about what he adopted from Bruce Lee. Like fighting powerside forward (he's left handed), which Georges said was his "secret weapon" and the concept of 'longest distance weapons to the nearest target' (like sidekicks/obliquekicks to the knee, which he said he used to help set up takedowns).
