Love the KISS idea! We homeschool year around with seasonal and holiday breaks in between. It’s been working great for us. Having a summer break that’s so long will feel like we have to start our habits or routine all over again. My child has autism so consistent habits and routines is our saving grace. I also like to switch it up with curriculum and extra curricular activities. If I feel there is burnout or fatigue we will take a week off of curriculum and focus solely on art, music, nature, read alouds, and play. Just to refresh the mind and nurture the spirit.

We year-round school with a sabbath schedule. School during the summer and early fall is done at one of many of the city parks in the morning. It makes the start of the school year different from how we ended school studying at the kitchen table.

Same here, we take every 7th week as a sabbath week but go year round. In the summer we do theme weeks the kids help choose to keep it fun (nature, engineering, water science and play, art, etc)

Love that she mentioned the burnout you can feel and sometimes it really does feel like a thankless job. Man, how I wish I could get a paycheck for it lol but I’m thankful to be able to have them with me everyday and I really remind my myself how blessed I am..on those really hard days. Currently in a hard season, mother of 4 with an 8 month old. Our routine has been completely out of whack so I’m hoping to get the routine set straight this year. Definitely using the KISS method! Thank you!

Thanks for the KISS reminder. I sighed today, because my son’s speech therapist asked me what our Summer goals were going to be, and my brain already went into Summer mode, but that framework is very reassuring.

We take a November through December break . The weather is so nice here at that time that it fits us well . We take little fun adventures while everyone is school .

"Our value is in Him (God)." Amén! I always keep my reason for homeschooling at the forefront of my daily life, and although it's a personal and lengthy list, the most important reason is because I know this is God's plan for us, and that He is blessing our homeschool in the bright days and more challenging days. During summertime we continue to have strict screen time, lots of swim time to develop our swim skills, we read a loud daily, and do crafts. This year we worked on an ocean unit study, whatever peaks their interest that year. I am actually looking forward to the new school year, we'll probably have an earlier start this year ☺️
