Welcome back, today we are checking out one of the highest end VR headsets the BigScreen Beyond. My BigScreen Beyond review is filled with plenty of pros and cons and I recommend you watch this before you buy one. This new vr hmd is incredibly small and light but not without a few issues. It's definitely not the Valve Deckard nor is it a direct upgrade from the Valve Index of the Valve Index killer I hoped it would be but it's still a very solid PCVR headset. I did a bit of a Valve Index VS BigScreen beyond comparison. Please let me know if you enjoyed my BigScreen Beyond Review.

Seems very difficult to recommend this really oled that will definitely produce a better image for blacks and contrast but that small fov would ruin it for me, I sometimes even like to take the face projector off my quest 3 and get even close to the lenses to watch movies it's absolutely incredible watching a 3d movie like this, all you need to do is turn the lights off in the room and you've got fully dark environment, It's better than cinema experience cheque out 4xvr player For playing full mvc 3D Blu Ray rips.

A beyond owner here, coming from an index and cv1, and while it's not perfect (fov, e2e) I'm never going back to having a big brick hanging from my face again,,, hopefully. The form factor is key but like anything you might have attached to your head or face, it takes some getting "use to". As for performance the easiest tweak is to turn down the steam super sampling, I have it down to 52% (which steam shows as 2568x2568) in high demanding games (Acc, Elite) and it's still super crisp somehow. Still waiting on that audio strap but the soft strap works well enough for me when you find the sweet spot (more toward the crown of your head than the back), plus you can rest your head on your head pillow again, which I missed from my cv1 days. The Bsb may not be for everyone but I'm very happy with it. No more brick!

I'm exactly the type of person this headset is made for. I prioritize immersion and contrast over a wide field of view (FOV). I primarily use VR for work, so clear text and long-term comfort are essential. You mentioned adjusting to the visuals over time. I agree, but I think it's less about getting used to them and more about your brain learning how to process them. This isn't a plug-and-play headset-it requires some fine-tuning. After a week of use, I stopped noticing any visual issues. I don't mean I'm intentionally ignoring them; I literally can't see them unless I actively look for them. However, I still have trouble reading UI text at the edges of the screen in games like Contractors. I haven't experienced any problems with the headset overheating or the fan noise. I have sensitive eyes and prefer to run it at 60-70% brightness, which also reduces persistence. I've never felt like a VR world was too dark. In fact, the deep blacks in this headset make dark areas in VRChat worlds look much better. Even though it's dark, you can still see objects and feel immersed in the environment. You also gave the impression that this headset is complicated to use. I agree it takes time to set up, but once it's dialed in, it stays that way. You don't technically need the included software, and the headset consistently works for me. Compared to having to use the Meta app or, even worse, the Varjo app, this is a huge relief. I still have nightmares about calibrating and working with the Varjo app. Many times, people have trouble in VRChat because of an audio setting in the Meta app or something similar. The fact that this headset is just a native SteamVR headset is a major plus for me. I'm concerned about people considering the Crystal Lite. Pimax has a history of problematic software. Their headsets are great, but everyone I know says they're a constant struggle to use.

Just got my bsb yesterday, still waiting on base stations. This is my first heaset so i can't compare it but I wanted to say why I got it and it doesnt get touched on by reviewers. Its because of Bigscreen, they have a very consumer friendly mindset. Like all the 3d models are available so if something breaks you can 3d print a new one, also ppl create cool things like a flip up headstrap. the ppl at EyeTrackVR shows how to add eye tracking with basic components. BigScreen has a video where they actually did it and recomended doing it. They say they dont have eye tracking on the device because "every gram counts" So I know if they get eaten by meta or go belly up I have a headset thats truly mine and can tinker with. So yeah its not for everyone but for me, its the only headset I was ever interested in

Sorry to hear you not liking the big screen .... For me, the Big Screen fell out of the box, leaped on my face and i had no issues at all.... As a Index Owner, I was super happy with the Bigscreen... May not be as clear on the edges and the FOV is a wee bit smaller than the index - but the sweet spot is always there for me and due to the increased resolution and zero screen door effect, I felt this was definitly an upgrade from the Index...And that isn't even mentioning how light and small this thing is....The glare is definitly there as well but imo, not worse than the index... The fact that it doesn't go above 90hz - for me isn't a problem... That is because I'm using it mostly for sim racing and not things like beat saber, where you can't reach super high frame rates anyway...

I think I (and maybe also you) are not the perfect target demographic for the Beyond. I honestly thought about getting one, but I can't live without wireless anymore, the sharing is definitely an issue, and usually when I play I want to just quickly jump in and have some fun. I think if you are the type of VR player who spends hours and hours in VRChat, or any other game, it's pretty cool that you can have something this light and high quality to enjoy for such long sessions. I personally don't really mind the weight of the Quest 3, but I have the neck of an ox and don't really play that long...

I have base stations because I own Index, and only rarely have others try it - so I’m the nearly perfect demographic for this. Just hard to swallow that price to trade higher refresh rate, superb audio, and higher FOV to get greatly increased comfort, resolution, contrast, and less light leaks. Even excluding the potential fitting issues and the additional cost of accessories (head strap, prescription lenses), I will probably only go with the Beyond if my Index dies before next gen hardware becomes available.

The quest 3 is such a massive upgrade. Coolest piece of tech I've owned. Even the pros of the index aren't all they're cracked up to be, except for the sound. The tracking isn't as flawless as people say. If you take your controllers and put them against each other at arms length and spin around you see them drifting all over the place in relation to each other. The q3 doesn't do that. I don't have to mention the visuals because it's such a blow out. AND It's wireless!

I'm having the same issues with the bigscreen. It was really clear in the one eye that worked and I'm waiting on them to fix and ship me a new wone with a new IPD and a new face gasket. It was extremely clear when I did get to use the one eye. I was a bit worried about the FOV, but the IPD was so off I couldn't use it. I also agree about the audio, that defiantly needs to come with it. I also just got a Quest Pro. Its a bit cheaper and has eye tracking and face tracking and audio. The Pro has better visuals then the index imo, but way worse then the bigscreen. With the price the pro is now (I got mine from ebay but new), I would say its better for the price. I have my fingers crossed the Bigscreen is going to replace my Index for wired pcvr.

@@bigmakbm1 You can configure the Quest 3 to display an amazing image with PCVR wirelessly by super sampling and connecting through Virtual desktop but you need a dedicated 6e router for the required bandwidth and at least an RTX 3070. Add ~ $800 for those, but the image is awesome and the sweet spot is huge.

Really disappointing to hear the custom IPD types of things aren't all that great. An oldster who now requires more than one set of progressive lenses, with each eye at a different focus, being able to have excellent prescription VR lenses and proper IPD is a major issue. When I told them I didn't have an iphone and they are not popular where I am they said to ask a random dude to use their phone? Like did a VR company just imply I should mug someone to buy their headset? Yeah I lost all interest right there, you cannot claim to be a serious company with a future if buying your $1000 device requires buying or stealing an $800 niche phone with a shrinking 30% worldwide market share, thats just absurd. The most important feature this headset lacks is Eye Tracking. Without eye tracking, you really do need an RTX 60 series which won't be out for years. The PSVR2 is going to be the better PCVR headset once Sony delivers PC support b/c of the eye tracking. The other major issue you talked about is the brightness. Due to pancack lenses only allowing about 10% of the light through, this is an issue for ALL pancake based headsets including quest 3. Quest uses LCD which is brighter than the micro-oleds but still impossible to be as bright and clear as Fresnel lenses (which have god rays issues). Not having pass through is a problem - agree. Great review and thanks for your opinion.

This seems to have an intended purpose, viewing media. It feels like that tight sweet spot would be a distraction. We've been spoiled by Quest in so many ways at this point, it's hard to go back to wired, we are all accustomed to passthrough, plus it's still hard to sell consumers on PC. Clearly this isn't for me. Even for people who it IS for, it feels like it still needs some polish. BTW, I missed the part about controllers. How are you playing games, does it automatically work with any conteollers?

Thanks for the review. Sounds to me like one of the most honest ones out there. NOT to name names lol but a lot of the reviews sound like shills. lol I've been hesitant to get this and you validated my main reasons why. "you mean I have to track someone down with an iphone for that face scan?" then I started hearing about peoples IPD issue/sweet spot issues. The other two reasons, your issues with sweet spot vs blurriness outside it and FOV plus the cost .... To many red flags with this. It's unfortunate though cause the size is right where it needs to me in my opinion for VR and bigger picture, for mass adoption. No one really wants some massive, bulky thing on their face but something small and sleek like this... lol stay with this size but improve FOV, sweet spot, forgo apple face scan and you've hooked me lol thanks again. :)
