Every word of this is spot on. I was stunned that the Pro fell so far behind the others in performance.

I love my BTEC Pro’s. I also host a BTEC repeater that takes me to a whole different level.. Best radios I’ve ever owned 💯

I tested the Pro at my hunting range against Wouxun 905Gs, and TidRadio H3s. The audio was slightly clearer on the Wouxun but the ability to see the rest of my party on GPS (which you didn’t mention) was huge. The lesser audio was not enough to outweigh the GPS and other features. We had a guy get turned around last year and despite hearing him on the radio he wasn’t sure where he was. The GPS would have solved that.

We had another guy in camp with this radio and we couldn’t see each other. Had a hard time figuring out how to get GPS working, so that’s why I didn’t mention it

I have the BTECH pro and purchased a better antenna for it the Nagoya . Better antenna makes all the difference

Had the Nagoya, signal stick, and another one. Tried with all 3. Didn’t make a difference for me. Still works fine, but not worth the cost to me, at least

Well - I’ve been looking at radios for weeks and this video finally solidified my choice in consistently returning to the Baofeng UV 9G as the radio of choice - the one most meeting my needs. Including my budget though I was willing to spend quite a bit more if needed. Thanks.

Glad I already got a pair of UV-9Gs with the longer antenna. I found roughly the same results between the UV-5R family v the UV-9G. My only gripe on the UV-9G is the spinning clip instead of the fixed clip. Other than that, it's a fantastic machine.
@TheRealOutdoors

I actually like the spinning clip. Easier to get off my belt and it hangs better when I clip it to my pack

Ive got all 3 of thise radios too. I just went all in on the GMRS PRO for my family and am super bummed how crappy the aound and range is vs the uv-9g. I really wanted this for the bluetooth so we can be wire free while skiing. The bluetooth works great but that doesn't matter if half if iur transmissions dont go through or we xant understand them. The GPS rarely seems to work to track each other. A nice future at times but you need to be on a phone looking at the map for it to really be useful (well if it worked). It would be great if i could tradk where kids are on the mountain but it just doesn't seem to work. They don't have cell ohones either tho. Hopefully a better radio with same blue Bluetooth capability comes soon. It is also nice when im just driving in the middle of nowhere scanning not having to have my family listen too.

The only reason me and a few buddies have the pros is for motorcycle rides. We use the Bluetooth for the helmets and it’s nice to also have the fm radio going on the pro playing musics from my phone that is also hooked up to a mini fm broadcasting device used in cars. The app now has the feature that allows you to talk over the app itself. But I will agree distance wise it fell short from some other radios that I have. 32 miles away and all my hts can hit a repeater. Pro hits it but barely and with a lot of noise.

That’s what I’ve maintained about this radio - if the “bonus” features are something you’d use, it’s worth it. If you just want a good GMRS radio, this ain’t it
@MrHercules222

I got the pro simply for the Bluetooth. Works great for motorcycle comms. Way better range than any of the popular options (Cardo, Sena). The texting isn't particularly useful. Even if it was private, you still have to be in range to text. It's not like your phone where you will just get all of your messages when you get service back.

Ive had my PRO for seven or so months, and i have a 771g that ive used with it. The best thing about it for me was the app. It records transmissions so i can listen to them whenever i please, as well as programming a channel on the fly from my phone screen. Ive been eying a ailunce ha1g for a couple months, and finally pulled the trigger. It has twice the functions as the PRO, at half the cost. Plus i feel it has a much better receiver, even with the stock antenna. Programming from the radio is kind of a learning curve but i can just hook up to a computer. Great review! I may just sell my PRO.

for my use I love the gmrs pro it bluetooths to the coms system in my motorcycle helmet and I have a button on the grip to talk with and I can see my fellow riders gps location if there was an accident for my use case its perfect and has reached farther than I thought about a mile with dense trees and a bunch of earth between me and my buddy but there is better for cheaper

That’s where I believe it has value - using those additional features. If you’re only using radio functions, there’s better radios for less 💰

@@TheRealOutdoors that's what I thought. Now, I only have two to test, but I didn't get the texts unless I was connected to the channel. But I was expecting it to total broadcast like a radio.

I have two of the Pro's. I mainly use them with a repeater that bis about 4 miles from my house and they hit it no problem. Audio is clear both ways. That's with the stock rubber antenna. I have to admit that I'm not thrilled with the controls on the radio but the app isn't bad and let's you switch channels quickly. I just got the Bs22 Bluetooth mic and it seems to work good as well. At best, I sort of like this radio but it's growing on me. I'll keep them for a while and if I find that I can't stand them I Wil use them for target practice. I also have a pair of Wouxun UV9GX which are quite solid and much easier to use.

That doesn't make any sense. I mean, having a two-way radio should be a must have. I could see cellular phones, but using 2-way radios, that should a must. After all you pay taxes and buy hunting licenses as well as having GMRS license. It's your to a radio to call for help when necessary. Next some one tells you can't use a radio, you could ask do want to stay employed. A radio is life line and should not denied.

@@jonbaird-kp3pz You just gave my reply more credibility Bob. You wrongly accused the man of not reviewing the radio he identified. Said nothing about bad reviews you had previously read, just began accusing him. Your credibility is lost, Bob. @TheRealOutdoors is one of the most competent, credible channels out here so, I’ll point out hacks like yourself, Bob.

Was the GMRS Pro on latest firmware? I hear it has updatable firmware over BT from your phone. I am surprised to hear about its poor performance, since it sounds like the Pro transmits around 5.7W whereas the GMRS-V2 is closer to 4.2W. 🫤
