Well for me, no. Shinee had both bright and dark/edgy songs. They're one of the group that popularized dark and edgy concept like RDD and Lucifer. Their B sides also got a lot of these element also like Evil, Dynamite, Stranger and many more. It's just this time it became their title song, which they haven't done before. They're extremely flexible in both concept, not only bright and upbeat songs. And i guess only fans knew about this, and other says it doesn't sound like them, which what Shinee is to begin with. They never settle for the same thing twice.

Key starting with arguably the worst natural tone and transforming himself into such a versatile vocalist is wild. I feel like his voice has come so far esp the last couple years

Exactly, his low base give the floor to other high pitch vocalists to sing in high tone, if not for his deep back voice it'd sound different He basically formulates the chorus of songs which is identical to SHINee. Baritone voice is not common for rappers and he has it So good. I'm a fan of his voice and honesty all the parts where he sang in this albuk are my favourite From rap of DCM to Body Rhythm to Kind and Kiss Kiss

I agree that Key's vocal is the driving force of DCM along with Minho. Lower tones are just as important as high notes, even more so for all the reasons you've mentioned. On the other hand, high notes are the highlights (or icing in the cake) and are usually placed towards the end cause songs like dramas tell a story. And highnotes highlight the climax or bridge, which Taemin and Onew did splendidly. I think that each member's vocals fits their specific parts perfectly and added dynamics and character to the sound of the song. The contrasting sound of their voices makes this more interesting and the reason why I'm still not bored listening to it even after constant replay for almost 3 weeks.

@@ophirelda3368 i agree as well. For me personally, I like listening and singing to high notes. But because of DCM, I was just reminded of the importance of lower notes. In SHINee songs, I usually like the high keys but I always forget to appreciate the low registers by Minho, and an occasional Kibum and Onew.

Baritone goodness!When I listened to SHINee ballads, I always think why is their harmony different? Because their vocals covered the full scale from bass to tenor. They're basically a choir.

Yeah, I sometimes tell people it is highly likely he is usually the anchor of the song (sometimes Key)--which could be looked at as the most important because it the person who keeps the group together. It's like how people in orchestras tend to like woodwinds because of the fun melody when the "boring" instruments drive the whole song. Without them it'd be utter chaos. It's not as if I dissected all their roles in every song. This is merely a guess. Everyone in a musical piece has importance even if it might not be so obvious to the one listening.

This is so true! SHINee's music is so diverse, it can't be confined to just a single "style". The have experimented with so many concepts and trends that they have their own definition as a group. This is what makes me love SHINee even more. All their comebacks are unexpected! Just compare all their music video concepts and songs! They are constantly challenging their image as a group. SHINee doesn't really have a specific genre but they ARE the genre.

As a shawol I totally agree, but i think ppl assume bcs in general, SHINee makes alot of funky more colourful type of songs compared to dark concepts in their discography.. So I think that's why generally ppl thinks it's not a SHINee song, which I get it Their songs like replay, love like oxygen, juliette, dream girl, 1 of 1 are all more to the "funky" "pop" type of sounds..

I only stan SHINee and Taemin, and I found this song imminently suitable for SHINee because they have proven over and over again that they can do anything they want. Genre is just a meaningless word to them. They said in a different interview that they had never tried hip-hop before so, as with every one of their comebacks, they wanted to present something new this time too. Well, they certainly did. They married hip-hop with elements of R&B and classical musical theater with this one. The songwriter & producer in "Exclusive! After struggling to assign it a genre, they decided on a totally new one: "Chill-out Trap". This is what SHINee does -- create new genres.

I actually think that it is a perfect song for Shinee to change and progress a little but still keep their sound. Idk it's fresh but I can still feel them in it. I love it.
