Sadly, because of foreigners, and the disrespect most(not all) of them treat toward Japanese is making Japan Anti-foreigner. So it’s very hard. I also wouldn’t recommend it because Japans work culture is very demanding, and if your a female it’s worse

I've lived in Japan as an AA for 7 years. It was very much a utopia. When I was there, they treated blacks very respectfully as well as all people. The comments in many of the videos with AA's and other Americans calling it magical was true. Many of us AA's called it heaven on earth. Had nothing to do with watching anime😂. We experienced it first hand and not reading history books It wasn't perfect, but it was the closest I've seen to perfect The extreme racism, toxicity and poison is definately a product of the US. They spread negative images of Blacks all over the world and that gives many countries pause now about African Americans.

I went to Tokyo my first trip to Japan and had a blast. Going back next spring and plan to venture out. Don’t let one person’s experience/opinion have you miss out something you actually may enjoy.

Basic is good. More than basic, is 1000 times better! in reducing the "awkwardness" levels. For you AND locals that you encounter.

I think he was trying to get at the fact the large cities like Tokyo will usually accommodate English speakers (or whatever language) due to the vastness of foreigners passing through. When you go to smaller cities, or even full inaka, learning Japanese quickly becomes a necessity rather than an option.

Yeah it makes no sense to travel as far as japan is and not go to Tokyo lol. Many people aren't going to japan multple times so why would they miss out on such a big city?

Humility, respect for their culture, and a pleasant, calm, demeanor can reduce that tremendously. Yes, I intentionally didn't say eliminate. Also, the better one can communicate, the more respect you'll gain..... immediately! Just human nature... an "outsider" that can speak a local's tongue is the MOST important & powerful tool in a traveler's toolkit.

I don't blame them, a lot of foreigner's disrespect the culture.

In Japan not as bad. Many people don’t say but racism and discrimination is 1000x worse in India, even people who appear to be the same ethnicity!

Definitely can't compare Japanese to Indians. I wouldn't even do India alone as a man. In fact, probably would never go India at all.

In India there's a caste system. Not to mention a lot of whyte worship and self-hate. Many will show hostility to people with the same dark skin tone like them, before they show hostility to the eurocentrists/Englishmen that robbed them of $45 trillion.

No different than in The US, Germany, Nigeria, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Turkey, etc. If you don't take the time to show respect for their culture/language, why should they take the time to respect you?

@@fibonacchio-matrixjones6064 Uhm…. tourists don’t come to stay. Any expectation of language fluency to visit a country for a week is not realistic. I think being respectful is reasonable no matter where you travel. Most tourists will pick up some culture during a visit… but a week visit won’t see many able to walk and talk like a native, so to speak. Thanks for your reply… 9 months after mine!
