Trailmater Offroad Recovery

Trailmater Offroad Recovery

Жыл бұрын

Had to run out on Potash Road to pick up an FJ Cruiser with a broken shock. We thought coming around from Shafer Trail would be quicker(which normally it is). However Shafer was closed due to ice. Which meant we would have to circle all the way around to come in from the Potash side. So we decided to take a chance and go down Long Canyon and save us time and distance. Our detour burned up fuel so we ran out just as we got back to pavement, but we carry extra fuel on both wreckers, so no issues there. We dropped the vehicle off at the repair shop and even had parts for them to use. Then a quick recap of the Wrecker Games and an announcement for my recent engagement. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Actually, Rory, I had to dislodge a car on a muddy slick steep hill, from a ditch, I just acted how Rory acts, and speaking kindly while directing the driver, and using the word "counter intuitive" more than once, but most of all, jumping on the car to apply traction, and that was key. Acting like you Rory, saved the day!

I like how you were in awe by the amount of people at the games watching you. Now imagine this. There were somewhere around 5000 people there watching you? I understand you guys being a little nervous. But, just think about it. You have videos up that half a million people watched. Your actual audience is WAY bigger than the crowd at the games. We are all glad that you are talking to us in your videos. We do like them. Keep them coming.

@@DonAshcraft Yes, seeing as some of the 'audience' broke the fine print on the back of their tickets (see Casey LaDell's video - 'Why I didn't want to post an off road wrecker games video" posted today as well) about not posting early it would be 'just desserts' for someone to harvest all their footage as public domain and make a crowdsourced movie.

You guys are the full package. Talented, experienced, creative, and humorous. Great fun to watch and learn from. Love the "don't do this" speeches as you are doing it. The trail ride was definitely business as usual at the games, but fun to watch your approach to each obstacle. Lending a hand to the others was a class move. Don't think you could have done it any other way. Getting the casualty through and keeping Shaun alive. Congrats on your engagement. Looks like you have a good catch there.

@Donna 🗝 I think that it was a mixture . For some events , such as the dyno , the "flexing " (RTI numbers ) , and the welding , there were specific numbers available . I was very confused over the heavy pull in the sand . I saw what Merlin, Eric, Paul , and Rory did , but , I am not sure what Matt did . I saw one video where he rather easily pulled the load all the way around , but , his sand pull numbers indicated that he didn`t do well at all . It was very difficult to gauge day #2 stuff . How do you adjust a guy`s performance after he turns the pulled vehicle over , as Paul did , or half way over , as Eric did , or need to be pushed in reverse , as Matt needed , as he had no reverse on day #2 . For me , every team should have existed of 3-4 people , who had to do the whole job , without help from spectators or judges or other participants. Obviously , they could use winches .

Who cares who won, it was meant to be just fun, If you want a more serious event go organize your own one, good luck on that one
@Mark_Bridges
@Mark_Bridges Жыл бұрын
I don't agree the games needed to be more serious. It's all about exposure to a wider audience and building up KZfaq views, so entertainment is the main goal. Sure, a lot of viewers on this channel are entertained by technical competence, but I bet a lot of other viewers are here for the scenery, or joking around, or whatever. If the games were serious then winning comes down to money, or a particular build for the conditions, or experience in those conditions, or other aspects that are not necessarily the same for all competitors. Make it fun rather than serious and all competitors can get in there and give it a go without being disadvantaged.
@williameddy3740
@williameddy3740 Жыл бұрын
@@Mark_Bridges Obviously Matt Wetzel and Paul Cox took it seriously , since they built vehicles for the event . Both also used skilled tradesmen from other companies in their builds . Merlon Johnson treated it seriously , since he travelled for 6 hours or more to participate , and , worked until 2:30 in the morning between day #1 and day #2 to fix his broken transfer case . Eric Huttner treated it seriously , since he travelled about 25 hours from Wisconsin to Utah , and made several improvements to his truck before he left home . Despite his jovial manner , Rory Irish is a very serious guy , even when he is eating with one hand and driving down a narrow trail with the other , even as he narrates what he is doing .

About 25 years ago I was dirt biking near Moab, and I was beyond surprised when we came across those colored evaporation ponds. I’m an engineer, so I had a pretty good idea this was a mining operation of some sort, and the whole process ending with the evaporation ponds is remarkable, IMHO. Wash the dissolvable minerals such as phosphorus out of the earth and let the water evaporate in the sun and the dry air. So cool you drove by that Rory, it brought good memories.
