Your brake issue was probably caused by using the brakes too much on the descent. This causes the brake fluid to boil (because it overheats - hence the smell) and lose all it's hydraulic properties and creating air bubbles which are compressible and therefor rendering the system useless. The key is to always use engine braking on descents and only use the actual brakes minimally and for short periods to allow the fluid to cool down. This applies to any vehicle, but obviously more critical the higher the weight of the vehicle. This is why most heavy duty vehicles use an auxiliary electric or air braking system to aid the hydraulic system. Excellent video again, thank you for your dedication.

We made exactly the same mistake with our snow chains, we tried them 2 days before our departure & good old Amazon delivered the right ones in time 👍

Hi Kat, regarding booking a campsite in advance, I would advise anyone to book directly with the campsite rather via a platform like Pitchup. In doing so, you will avoid some bad surprises and may get it cheaper.

Hi Kat, thanks for this. Regarding roundabouts, they work pretty much the same as in the UK, i.e. traffic on the roundabout has priority. The main danger in France (and to a lesser extent in other countries) is the priorité à droite rule, which can really catch you out. The yellow diamond signs should make it clear (and 'vous n'avez pas la priorité'), but I always drive defensively, anticipating that someone (not always elderly) will come barrelling out of a side road. British drivers are, for the most part, unaware of the dangers, I think.

To use Camping Carparks you need a 5€ membership card which you can buy in advance or on arrival at your first one. Mostly former municipal campsites or aires (so some are suitable for caravans or even camping)and they have now taken over the large aire in Calais so they will become very familiar to a lot of people from the U.K. They also have a small number of sites in Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. . You need a 29€ premium membership to book a space although I have some question marks about how well this works - you pay at a machine as you leave and the barrier won’t allow any more vehicles on than the number of spaces (and bear in mind there is no human oversight). So, if someone just isn’t moving then your reserved pitch isn’t available - I’ve seen a very upset French couple have this issue at a full CCP place and I’ve read similar stories online. People don’t always park within the spaces either (CCP aires are often older, sometimes badly maintained sites and/or have pitches that aren’t suitable for very large motorhomes) so you can go through the barrier and then have nowhere to stop but you’ll need to pay to get back out again. So, always do a quick visual check before going through the barrier CCP do have a free app so you can see where their sites are (although they are all on SearchForSites as well) and it has a live (or reasonably so) feed of numbers on each aire so you can see if it is already full and not bother driving there (or hope that someone moves off by the time you get there). Generally you get your waters and 6amp hook up and free (very weak) wifi and some have toilet blocks.

I think you mean “priority a droit” in villages, where you should be going slow enough, to give way to the right to people coming onto the main road.

Great video. I'm going to France and Germany in July. Very excited but getting nervous 😂. Couple of questions?, I have a 6m motorhome plus another 1metre for the bike rack. Do I need to use the Angle Mort sticker and also I have GB on my registration plate, do I also need a traditional GB sticker. Thanks in advance 😊

Thanks ; great reminders. Have you ever tried using a e-sim ? Do they work - instead of having to buy a local sim card and the hassle of changing them over for every country? I have travelled thru europe a few time with my campervan and find the data issue a real pain esp if one is relying on google maps and a satnav !
