I was also divorced twice when I was in my 50s. I had just turned 60 when I met my third husband. On the night we met I wore a pair of slim jeans, a black off the shoulder knit top, a pair of high heel strappy sandals and topped it off with a red leather trench that I had purchased in Italy a few months before. He told me later on that he thought I looked very sexy and younger than him when he is actually 8 years younger than me! I am now 78, and we've been married for 13 years.🥰

Two tips you left out that are on my list: 1. Always consider the occasion. There’s a time and place for everything to be shown or shown off. 2. Make up, as we age, less is more. It’s the number one way to look ridiculous if it’s overdone. And my absolute #1 RULE (& #2 I guess) over all others, Dress for your coloring and Body Type! If it’s a flattering color...it can be a gunnysack. If the gunnysack flatters your body... nuff said!

Hi Heather, I am 68 years old, wife, mother, and grandmother. I am retired and take superb care of myself: lift weights, walk, do Jazzercise. I also do intermittent fasting--you get the picture. I am slender and perfectly fit. ... During covid while attempting to shop during the early morning 60- and- over- hours, I was consistently stopped and told these hours weren't for me. Ha! (I got skin cancer at age 31 and have worn a brimmed hat since.) Dressing as you want involves courage. Courage is so important! Without courage a person cannot have consistent integrity... But I diverse. Like you, I usually dress in nice blue jeans, a great top, excellent footwear, and a great 3rd layer. This is a super FUN age! Blessings to ALL!

I am 58 years old, which was a milestone year for me, because that’s how old my grandmother was when she died. I feel great, and I still think I look pretty good too, maintaining my health through good nutrition, a wonderful husband and family, a strong faith community and an active lifestyle. I would say my three style words are classic, comfortable and creative. But the fourth style word you hit right on when you we should all have confidence! We all have value and something to offer those around us!

Girl your attitude about dressing and feeling is the same as mine.I like sexy too but I'm not in as good of shape as you are. You look fab in that purple jumpsuit and that last leather dress that I wish I could wear. I would go for a mini skirt in that material or a below-the-knee pencil skirt since my legs & butt are my best features. You look great in everything you had on and I would wear most of what you had on too, even at my 72 years of life. I refuse to let that age number turn me into a old lady. I also love jeans. My style is pretty classic but with a modern touch. For me, clothing that shows enough to pique interest is fine, but when there’s too much skin showing wherever, it looks a bit on the cheap side for me.

Im 53... and I love my minis! Im in a tropical country but I wanna wear boots. Though I love stilettos but ditched them with 3 to 4" wedges and clogs. Fashion is ageless... so if one can strut it off even in their fab 50s...go for it, live it, feel it, love it, put your soul into it! Be bold, be brave, be creative, be happy, hence, life is just a temporary gift, delight in it!

Heather, I just love you. I love your attitude. I'm 67. Until the last few years, I hadn't thought of things that may be inappropriate for me to wear at my age. But I do definitely feel like there is a way to dress that is appropriate for me. I think that there is a matter of taste, of lifestyle, of figure, of class. If a older person has a few layers of fat, which is probably true for 99 percent of the women our age, then we cannot wear what you wear. There are women with wrinkles, round bellies and grey hair styles that make us look old. Some are not comfortable in wearing plunging necklines and high heeled shoes. We would fall over on our bums and have to go home. I do agree with you about wearing things that make you feel great, sexy, and look good. I have watched you enough to know your style and ooh and aah at every outfit. You have inspired me to take some of my pieces and put them together in new ways. My mother was so much like you. She never left the house without looking like a model. Think your style, only in the eighties. Red and purple sequined jackets, purple leather pants, Jeans jumpsuits and padded shoulders. She was in her fifties and she looked great. She made my dad proud to be seen with her. I just want to encourage you to keep on being you. Keep on embodying the person you are on the inside. I like wearing jackets and cardigan sweaters over tank tops, but don't enjoy the extra cleaning of those jackets and cardigans because of body odor in the arm pit areas. Do you wear dress shields to save the jackets from extra wear and tear from cleaning, not to mention the $?

I think if you take care of your body you will look great in anything. Look at Dolly Parton in her 70's wearing the cheerleader outfit. She looked fantastic! She has taken care of her body. Most women don't do this and of course the clothes don't look that great. I am almost 50 and have a better body now than when I was in my 20s. I would totally wear some of the controversial outfits you showed.

You look great in everything that you modeled. But all of your tips would apply to women of all ages and yes, we should always wear clothing that fit, that enhances our bodies rather than trying to force clothing to fit us, or wear us. Like too much jewlery, wearing just one statement piece of clothing is enough. Right out of high school, i worked at an old age home, where the residents lived in different buildings, according to their physical and mental condition. I worked with patients who needed help with their daily routine, bathing, going to the toilet, getting from the bed to a wheelchair, etc. They mostly wore comfortable clothing, and sometimes statement clothing, but the one time that i really thought that a patient needed to rethink her clothing choice. She was a very thin, elderly woman that needed a walker to walk, wearing a very mini dress. She may have felt beautiful, but there was too much of her showing. The clothing did not fit her and the dress wore her and it was not flattering. I dont think that 50 is old. At 56 i was still doing two hours of kick boxing and an hour of spin five days a week In my 60's i was still pumping iron and doing an hour of dance. I am 75 now and i noticed that i have noticed that have joint pain that i didn't have before. I still work out, but mobility is more painful. Our body changes with time and what looks good on my body has changed. I still love wearing faux fur and that leather look, but i have to really consider what i look like when i dress. I have a full lenght mirror near the front door so that i can make sure that i look my best when i walk out that door. I can wear a cropped jacket for instance, but how I style it is different from how i would have worn it 20 years ago.

The dress is stunning. I prefer dresses and skirts as jeans are too thick. In winter I wear leggings under my dresses, skirts and jumpers. You look great in jeans but not for me. I will be wearing less jewellery from now on.

40 and 50+ are different. Don't need to dress old but we do need to keep tasteful in mind-no short skirts or tight pants with cleavage. No matter how great the bod have to keep in mind not look like you are trying too hard.

For those who may think your style is not for a 50 year old woman, I believe it may be jealousy, (envy, what not) not for your clothes but rather you’ve maintained the body to continue wearing those styles. The caveat is that you should take an objective look at your body. If you have the figure for it, then wear it. The thing is, being above a certain age implies you are no longer in good shape, proper weight, etc. then certain things look ridiculous on you and it is not because of your age but because of your body.
