I had an issue with Egypt Air in 2021 and would never fly that airline again. We were seated in business class flying back to JFK from Cairo when a women gets on the plane, sees me and my friend sitting in business and says to us why are in my parents seats that's not right you should move. The flight attendant then demands our boarding passes. Mind you this woman walked on the plane accusing us of being in her parents seats, huh? We showed our pass and of course were in the right seats. The flight attendant was very rude and demanding towards us. He never apologized and just walked away from us. That women was seated in the main cabin. She spent the remainder of the flight coming into business visiting her parents who were seated in front of us and no one stopped her. Since when do flights allow that? We travel a lot and vowed never to fly with them again.
@dakg8034
@dakg8034 4 күн бұрын
Ok, I get it, the woman was very rude in her approach to the seat issue, but I do not get where the flight attendant did wrong. Is it not the procedure to ask for boarding pass(es) when seat disputes arise? And although the attendant could have apologized for the embarrassing situation - which goes a long way in customer relations - I think it was more important for the uncouth woman to apologize. Afterall, she caused the entire unpleasant situation.
@DesmondKarani

@@dakg8034 "I do not get where the flight attendant did wrong," are you joking? Not apologizing for that issue is not wrong? It's not illegal. But it is 100% wrong. If you don't think it's wrong... I don't want to add anything else because KZfaq will delete this comment.

On a flight from Europe to Nairobi, one mofo at Cairo scanned my passport a million times. He then handed it over to his colleague who did the same thing. After wasting 10 minutes of my life, I got my passport back with weird stares. On the plane, I wasn't even asked what I wanna eat between chicken and beef. The chicken and a bottle of water were just put on my "table". Meanwhile, Arabs next to me were asked several questions before being served whatever they wanted. Keep off that airline.

Next to me was an Indian man and a white woman and the only person they kept asking if she needed anything was the white woman. The racism was so obvious and even the white woman seemed so uncomfortable every time she was asked that question while we were totally ignored yet we all paid airfare or rather their salaries.

@yungbfreshim Im gonna be real. The more I've traveled in the eastern hemisphere as a BA, the more I've seen the international politics of reputation. With that being said, the more i discovered that certain African travelers, specifically Nigerians, have accumulated a bad reputation when traveling due to thier well known oraganized criminal element. Locals in Asia put me on to this. Human/ drug trafficking, importation, ID theft, passport fraud, prostitution rings, overstaying visas, etc. They've been known to do this so long that governments have taken extra screening measures. Locals also know thier reputation. This is a factor in Black Americans and blacks in general being sweated at certain international airports.

So I'm a black American and I'm gonna play devil's advocate here. I think we have to be very careful as black people to 1) not expect to encounter racism everywhere we go, and 2) not to read racism into every bad experience. This was brought home to me after I got my first job after college working in the corporate office of a large insurance company. I was perhaps the ONLY black person in the entire building. The only other black employees in the company were the janitorial and mail staff and they worked in the basement. I worked in HR which was staffed by a bunch of secretaries. Every morning I went into work, I would cheerfully greet all the secretaries. They all cheerfully answered, except for one. Every time I would greet her in the morning, she would just sneer at me, so I naturally assumed she was racist. This went on for a couple of weeks until I just gave up and decided to avoid crossing her path at all costs. Then after observing for a few months I realized that she sneered and snapped at EVERYONE, not just me (my supervisor would later reveal that they couldn't fire her because she was close to retirement). She wasn't racist, she was just an unpleasant individual! Shortly after I quit my job and decided to move to Europe, where I still am today. The HR office decided to throw me a going away party and to my surprise this same secretary came right up to me with a beaming smile on her face and embraced me. This was so unexpected that I didn't know how to react. She kept saying how she was going to miss me and how she appreciated my polite manners and how I used to cheer her up every morning. I had no idea she even noticed or cared! She then gave me a little card with her home number and made me promise to keep in touch with her. Are there racist people in this world? YES there are, but they are an increasingly small number of people that are powerless to affect your life in any meaningful way. We're no longer living in the 19th century, we're not even in the 1950's and 60's. Most people are NOT racist, and in my experience, most people couldn't care LESS about your race. They care mostly about your ATTITUDE. So many of us in the black community go around EXPECTING and HOPING to encounter racism wherever we go. Then the slightest negative experience is used to confirm our suspicion that a people, a city, a country, etc. are "racist". Sometimes people are just having a bad day. Sometimes they're having domestic problems at home and take out their frustrations on you. Sometimes you remind them of someone they dislike. Maybe it's the way you dress, the way you talk, your mannerisms, etc. "RACISM" shouldn't be our default explanation for every single negative experience! Furthermore, if you start every journey EXPECTING to experience racism, guess what? Our expectations are the SAME THING as a PRAYER!! You're actually PRAYING for racism! Whatever you expect, whatever you pray for, it has an ironic way of actually coming true. So if you start your day expecting to meet positive people and have only positive experiences, most likely you will encounter exactly that. The same principle works in reverse as well - if you start your day expecting to meet negative people and only have negative experiences, well, you're the one actually summoning all that negativity into your life! We black Americans need to stop being so paranoid and expecting the world to be inexplicably against us. Most people are NOT racist and most negative experiences have NOTHING whatsoever to do with racism!

Never had any desire to visit Egypt and I have visited several African countries Egypt was never one of them. Two of my girlfriends visited Egypt, on the flight the airline host spilled water on her while serving food, she apologized, but we knew it was no accident. She made a complaint to the airline corporate office, as of today no reply. This was two years ago. Then while in Cairo they were sexual harassed, keep in mind they respected the culture, dressed appropriately, etc, but was still disrespected. Spend your money where you're welcome. Goodluck!! Six women ran from their homes in an attempt to help me, until a motorbike rolled up to run the dogs off. In the USA, nobody would help you but you'd see them all with their cell phones trying to film your demise. There's nothing like the heart of Egyptian people. Don't believe the hype!! These people have a heart of gold. Perhaps the ppl in authority behave this way, but the average Egyptian has a white heart. B/c many of them are poor, I cannot say they won't try to take a little money from you in a slick way, but nobody like them in this world, and I've been to 40 countries, including 11 African countries.

I'm Asian American and went to Egypt with my best friend since childhood who is African American. I definitely noticed the racist treatment he got compared to me. After immigration and security where they check your bags before you enter the country, he was randomly stopped by security and interviewed even though he was just steps behind me. He had to wave at me to come over as I had kept walking and I told the security that we were traveling together and they let him go. From what I understand, they profile any Black people coming into Egypt and Black people are under constant harassment by the police and other security officials on the streets as many come in as refugees and are looked down upon. It was pretty shocking to see that and I felt bad for him.

I took a trip to Egypt via Egyptair in 12/2018. The flight headed there was uneventful. However, coming back, I had to request the security manager/supervisor because after going through five security check points and having my carry on checked, they wanted to take my phone charger. I refused to have them take it. I said what in the hell, I've gone through JFK, came into Egypt with the charger, why are you looking to confiscate it? Somehow, there was this concern about the charger being an explosive. I'm going back and forth with them, and this white lady came up to me and said stop arguing with them, and I advised her of what was happening. She stood behind me. Then they kept asking for my US passport and asked me why am I here in their country? I was taken aback, flabbergasted to say the least. It's funny, no one asked me why I was in their country when they were begging me to buy trinkets and patronize their businesses, but I digress. Eventually, they gave my charger to security personnel who was going on my flight, and I was told that they would give it to me when they landed. During the flight, the steward was ignoring me. The seats were beyond uncomfortable, and this arrogant African girl was in front of my pushing her seat in my lap. I asked her to pull her seat up or go in first class. Just an overall miserable flight. But I did what I came to do, I saw the sites and the tour I did of Egypt was ok. The flight coming home was another story...

Stay cautious bro. On another note, be humble. You have this ego about being a "black American" in Africa and expecting that's a rubber stamp to VIP treatment once they hear your accent. Naaa man, plenty of accomplished expats so miss it with the, "what if I told you I am a black American" attitude even when doing the street interviews. Couldn't help but notice you were already on edge on your way to "26C". And with you being a "content creator" don't you think the moment they didn't serve you food would've been worth capturing on video rather than dissecting after the flight? Now that would be some content right there which TBH, has been lacking from your corner man. But all the best, still support ya regardless, keep pushing

Peace, I'm a New Subbie. I flew EgyptAir early in 2023 (Cairo to Luxor 1-day layover Round trip). Add being a Woman to being an obviously American and Black. What I noticed most was women were treated less than stellar in comparison to the men, then the sliding scale of appearance / Class/ Color. One Whitish appearing Arab/Muslim man seemingly of means ordered the Flight staff around like personal servants the whole flight. He refused to follow directions and was overtly rude to his surrounding flight companions. The same flight attendants overtly submitting to his rudeness would turn around and attempt to be overtly rude to us. Their rudeness smashed up against a wall of impenetrable complete Unbotheredness. I'm flying around Egypt from the States… U are the flying Coat Check Girl on the equivalent of the DMV to Philly route… 💅🏾 Not to mention many of my fellow flight members were giving passengers on the flight to Nepal Eddie Murphy took in “The Golden Child” tease. Girl, please. Thankfully, I was not acting like the atypical “Ugly American”. I simply read my book and igg’d it all. I loved touring Cairo, Giza and Luxor. I flew into Cairo from Paris. My next African tour, Jah willing, will take me to Aswan, Egypt and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. ☥✨☮️✨☥

It's the fact that you promote a foreign country (Turkey) and you promise yourself to spend your money in the future in that foreign country rather than spending your money in your ancestors' motherland. Africa also needs your money to develop its economy. Honouring your ancestors is key to self love and advancement of African people. We see this self hatred also among the black community in the US. Black Americans prefer to spend their money in white/Asian/Indian businesses instead of supporting black businesses. This mindset is very bad.

They are racist. They will hand their fellow Arabs everything and walk past you. They would hand them blankets and stuff but when you request they tell you it is finished. But you will still see them handing to other Arabs later. I flew just once and experienced so much on that one flight. I didn't even know it was a thing with Egypt air until I started seeing videos online. The hostesses are super rude to black Africans. I went to their website to complain of the treatment we got and not even an acknowledgement from the airline. Arab passengers were asked to board first while we were told that they were business class in English. When we boarded, all Arabs save for two were seated in the cabin. A Nigerian lady had to raise her voice before she was given a blanket while all the Arabs got freely without asking. So much unpacked in that one flight that I can't even begin to narrate.

I studied in Egypt for two years. Was invited to Kenya by my Kenyan girlfriend for holiday. I and another American classmate named Melvin booked two flights on EgyptAir for a two week trip to Nairobi. We flew directly from Cairo to Nairobi. We reached without incident EXCEPT our luggage and the luggage of all the passengers on the entire flight went to Rome instead. We did get our luggage though, about 3 days later. On another note, we were the only American black people on the plane and while we were waiting, in vain, for the luggage, when the carousel kept turning and turning completely empty, it became clear there was a major problem. Everyone waiting grew livid, irate and abusive to the Kenyan employees. Everyone, except Melvin and I. After living as students in Egypt and dealing with Cairo chaos we were both cracking light jokes to each other like our luggage will show up, “Insha’Allah, bokrah, ma’alesh” which is an Egyptian saying meaning “if God wills, tomorrow, shit happens.” LOL They use the saying so much they call it IBM for short. A Kenyan officer observing the whole thing walked over to us and asked to see our passports. We humbly complied, but thinking, “what now?” He looked them over and then said follow me. He walked us past several red hot passengers to the desk in front. He asked us to wait just on the other side, while he flipped through our passports and began stamping them, never once looking back up. The other passengers started protesting, “wait, we were here first.” The officer completed stamping. When done he looked up at us, smiled, and said “Welcome to Kenya. Please enjoy your time with us.” He then turned to the red faced, gobsmacked passengers and said, verbatim, “Now, who’s first?”

Went to Egypt for a week from Qatar last year. Had a great experience, had no issues with bigoted folk, and never felt degraded.

Things have changed post COVID, Egypt air is not the best but it’s certainly not the worst, the safety record is good and that is important flying. Doesn’t matter where we go, can’t make any mistakes as our enemies are ready to pounce.

An airline that promotes or allows racism doesn’t sound very safe to me…

@@erikaarnold4780 Have you flown with Egyptair ? Obviously not , you get what you are suppose to have, Coffee, Tea, Meal or snack service, in flight entertainment and a safe flight. You should know in advance the qualities of the airline you are with .

@@stevenworld3364I have flown Egypt air and it is horrible. Toronto to Cairo, Cairo to Lagos. The first leg was a bit better but you see the second leg, it was the Worst airline experience of my life. Super rude hostesses and hosts among other issues. The racism there is real and I am not one to see racism having been around quite a bit. But Egypt air? Never again.

Egypt Air's planes and equipment are on par with Spirit Airlines, but when it comes to customer service, Spirit looks like a five-star resort. Egypt Air is such a disaster, I'd rather fly Spirit in a seat made of recycled napkins while hugging my carry-on for dear life!😂😂
