A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the sun's face. People located in the center of the moon's shadow when it hits Earth experience a total eclipse. Some say that Texas, particularly the Hill Country, was the best place in the United States to view the total eclipse, with some parts of the state experiencing totality for more than four and a half minutes.
